Did that fan-made project of re-creating the SNES Shadowrun game for Shadowrun Returns ever come to fruition?

@kaincarver: Are you sure you aren't thinking of Shadowrun Online by Cliffhanger Productions? If I recall, after their successful kickstarter they ended up not only working on another game in order to secure more capital, etc, but actually used assets created for the kickstarted game in the other production. Left a bad taste in my mouth.

To my recollection, HBS were very open through all their development, and with the exception of the underwhelming in-game backer's rewards, most backers were pleased.

The game was OK, my problem was with the transparency of the Devs and how they worked. If Kickstarter backers are the financiers of your game than I expect a lot more in terms of open communication. Not so much asking for advice, I don't think Devs should ever ask for fans/investors advice, not that at all, but I did feel that HBS needed to be more open with their budgetary/development plans. I saw things they were doing that made me question where my money was being spent; them developing another game during production on this.

Now again, i don't know if they had a separate smaller team that branched off or what, but that is one issue I had with them. A little drib and drab of info to backers when they feel like it is not good enough imo. Maybe some backers didn't care, but to me, an investor I expected more. If that's my fault, so be it but i won't be helping HBS in the future.

EDIT:My background is in films/TV so my opinion is formed from years on that side, which is understandably different.

While I agree that any dev on Kickstarter should strive to be as open as possible, remember that you're not an investor. You're just a dude kicking them some cash.

I haven't played it yet. I have trouble with an inability to get into deep use of turn based combat strategy without resorting to slow paced micromanaged movement. Between my worries over that, a low budget and worries about the animation choppiness I'd seen in trailers I hadn't gone for it.

But this looks so interesting, I'd love to play it and it looks the type that I could strategize while watching other stuff for that extra brain kick. Though I'd hate to lose out on this music.

I played to much mmo's and that left me with skipping most of the writhed dialog so i couldn't enjoy this game witch is sad because it has a lot of potential.

I love the Shadowrun universe. I enjoyed the first campaign of Shadowrun Return -- but hope that there are improvements. Guess I'll find out when this 2nd campaign comes out.

Looking forward to it.

This game was fantastic. I've been looking forward to another official campaign for a while now. There are a few good player-made campaigns on the Steam workshop but it's hard to pick out the great ones from the trash and the unfinished, so I'll happily pay for another good campaign.

If you want a good custom campaign, Nightmare Harvest seems really well made: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=205626014

Returns was a solid game and I ended up playing through twice. I've also played Nightmare Harvest to completion and for community content it isn't bad at all. I'll be picking up Dragonfall for certain.

I really didn't like the way the main campaign ended. Didn't find the story interesting at all, actually. I hope this one is better.

Sounds like they fixed the save system. This game might be more palatable now.

I enjoyed it quite a bit while playing, but found i had absolutely no desire to do any replays due to it being rather painfully linear - not just in terms of story, but in the way you approach and complete each level. Still, rather looking forward to this expansion/dlc.

I liked the original. Aside from a ridiculous difficulty spike at the end, it was alright. The story had a pnp tabletop rpg charm to it. Reminded me of the good times I had playing ADnD. Gonna pick this one up for sure.

I played quite a bit of it, unfortunately the story didn't have very much to do for my decker except in a few spots which meant i had to branch out into rigger skills and i didn't feel like i got the most out of it. hopefully this fixes some of those issues

I thought the gameplay was all right, given the task in front of them. Shadowrun has always had the most fractured gameplay I can recall - the Decker, Rigger, and Shaman do completely different non-combat things. Getting them to work together well in a combat environment was pretty impressive.

It wasn't the best game of 2013, but I vote it better than 'okay', and less than 'great'.

@captainjudaism: As I understand, it will. The save functionality is just a part of the engine, so it'll be rolled in with a patch.

If it lets me save mid-mission, and adds the ability to the old campaign, then I can see myself picking this up.

"Sadly overlooked"-my-ass! There were some major oversights on the design level and if this game failed, it's because it deserved to fail. The prospect of infinite storylines care-of the editor was a great concept, but no amount of story can carry boring gameplay.

Geeze ... did the game kick your dog or something? ... The game was perfectly fine for the budget they had and was exactly what they promised to deliver. You didn't like it, fine, but you need to learn that just because you don't like something doesn't mean it's bad. I enjoyed playing the game a lot, so did a bunch of other people.

It wasn't long ago I finished Shadowrun so I'll wait a while. But at some point in the future, I could totally go for more Shadowrun.

You can save anywhere in the base campaign, as of last beta patch. It seems pretty buggy (it is a beta), but you know, in case anyone was waiting for that to buy the base game, now is the time!

Looking forward to this ... the original game was fun and had a lot of promise. Overall I think it was a successfull Kickstarter and I hope they can build on the first one and make it better.

Yeah...that save stuff almost borked me at a certain point in the game. I had to keep playing a section until my rolls favored me because I came into the mission without realizing I was going into the mission.

Hopefully it's getting non-broken barrier spells for shamans as well. Having one of the main abilities for an entire class unusable isn't something one expects from a commercially released game.
