Assassin's Creed Liberation HD Is Out Now

Curious if any of those new missions do anything to make this game more interesting than it was on the Vita. Because it wasn't that interesting on the Vita.

So far I have only finished chapter 1, but it seems like the game is very critical path. No side activities of note. You can buy buildings, but they're just changing closets to switch outfits (personas), no revenue streaming from ownership. You get different amounts of cash for completing missions based on your adherence to the criteria, and chests have big money in them.

It's in the same graphical class as AC2 on PC. The game is mostly noteable because of the 3 personas setup (character can masquerade as a slave, dress as an upper class woman, or appear as the assassin, and each one has different abilities and social characteristics, they also each have their own notoriety meter). So far no horses.

New Orleans feels more interesting than Boston or New York visually (I'm from Boston but man, those cities were BLAND as shown in AC3, apparently everything at the time of the revolution needed a damn coat of paint), but there's not nearly the breadth of gameplay that was in AC3 (hunting, lots of side activities in the city, boat combat, no homesteading).

Aside from the personas and lack of shrubbery, the stealth isn't that different from AC3, follow person, they get edgy, you stick to the corner of the nearest building and wait for them to move along. It has the walk in a group of people stealth from AC2+, but it seems like there are fewer clumps of people that are eligible for stealth flocking.

edit:

I finished the second sequence tonight, and the game opens up once you get to the bayou. There are a couple types of side quests introduced, and while there isn't wide open hunting, there are some raccoons wandering around and you can kill alligators. Also there are canoes. There is also tree climbing, shrubbery, and natural landscape free running which are all good. The tree climbing is better than in AC3 because you're not climbing the same one tree over and over again.

@thevgamer: The default anti-alias settings made the main menu run at about 1FPS, and made navigating the menus to change it incredibly frustrating.

I've noticed multiple scripting issues that require a checkpoint restart to continue. Also, the camera is absurdly fiddly (It seems like they didn't adapt the controls properly to full-sized controllers).

it's a great game, even if it doesn't do much new for AC. the stealth is actually fun and functional tho, unlike the broke-ass AC3 mechanics. it's my 2nd fav AC after ACII.

This always seemed rather interesting to me, playing as a female protagonist and the racial aspect of it all. I think I'll probably pick this up on PC. @bassguy what issues are you having?

Bought it, enjoying it so far. I definitely recommend playing it in French. Probably enjoying tempting rich dudes into back-alleys and strangling them a little too much.

Works for me.

And yet, not for current-gen consoles.

I thought this x86 architecture thing might make even half-assed ports a thing in this stagnant release period (seriously, I just want some reason to play the console I foolishly jumped on).

The first two Xbox were X86, don't get your hopes up.

Umm...the Xbox 360 was PowerPC based architecture, and that uses a RISC instruction set not SISC which X86 CPUs are based on. So, for almost the last decade all the games released for the 360 and PS3 have been coded using a RISC instruction set. You are correct in saying the Original Xbox was x86 though. But, going back to x86 now will definitely give us some major changes in all aspects of the games development. If a game is lacking on the initial releases of these new consoles, I attribute that to a rushed development cycle.

I thought it was very interesting, and great for a Vita AC game tbh.

@i_stay_puft: Probably not, a reason a lot of games like JRPGs have made their debuts on 3DS/Vita is for budget constraints, so we are probably not going to see ports outside of companies that could afford to. Which is why something like FFX HD will be on both, but Virtue's Last Reward will not.

Her preorder (?) mission in AC4 was all right. Not nearly as expansive as the map would have you believe, but all right. And it was nice to go back to Connor's tomahawk animations, which were way cooler than anything Edward has up his sleeve.

I played a bit of it... seems kinda slapdash so far, as it makes these crazy jumps through the story and is rather poorly executed from a general narrative standpoint as of where I left it. That, and it can't even keep to a locked 30 fps on ps3.

I'm been waiting for this game to come to the X-Box 360 ever since it was announced for the Vita. Now that it's out now, I'm definitely going to buy it.

That's how hardcore of an Assassins' Creed fan I am.

Looks like a really good ps2 game. I'm wondering if we've reached the point in the ps3 life cycle where all the PS Vita hits will just eventually get ported to ps3.

I've heard that while this one looks infinitely better it still has the exact same bugs and glitches that the Vita version had.

Also, Ubisoft...stop putting multiplayer achievements in your AC games. Thanks.

@chose: Yes, the first Xbox was, and the parallels between the Xbox1 and the Xbox One being somewhat mediocre PCs is not lost on me.

Man, the visuals look really uneven. I suppose selectively upgrading important characters and only certain aspects of the environment will do that though. Gives me the feeling that if I ever want to play this I should just play it on the Vita.

Looks pretty bland, like a scaled down AC3?

I feel like this game got no buzz, came out first on the Vita around AC3 and never heard anything about it afterwards.
