Assassin's Creed III Gets All Alternate Historical in The Tyranny of King Washington

To be fair, I think if anyone had told actual George Washington he could wear a dope crown and have a rad-looking scepter, he'd totally have gone full-tyranny on all our asses. I certainly would have!

I actually really like the concept, and I'd rather have standalone stories like this as DLC over cut out middle chapters like ACII did. If I ever get around to playing ACIII, I'll play this.

I'm thinking this DLC will be awesome and it'll sell tons of season passes for Ubisoft. Then every proceeding DLC for AC3 will be as uninteresting as it was in past AC games.

I'm still confused, is this DLC for AC3 or the next AC game? so this is like Brotherhood then?

At 1m02s I thought George was going to dance, the setup was there, then they proceeded to disappoint.

I once heard that after the revolution, the people tried to offer the crown to Washington and he turned it down flat, insisting they hadn't spent years fighting to make the same mistakes all over again.

@Daneian: Alexander Hamilton proposed that the president should be president for life. Alexander Hamilton was a terrible human being. Not just for that, loads of reasons. Aaron Burr is an American hero.

@AngelN7: Fairly certain it is DLC as this was mentioned before AC3 came out.

Will have fun killing Washington & returning the colonies to the true crown. If that is not an option, outrage.

Having finally finished the main story in AC3, not really sure I want to go back. I never found Connor to be that deep or interesting as a character. He felt the exact same to me as Altaïr. Fairly one-note and unwavering in his personality. From the time you see him as a grown up, I never really felt him change much. Oh sure there were subtle alterations to his beliefs, but it all seemed to be the same. A majority of the interesting relationships and people I cared about during the game were the homesteaders and especially the character you play in the opening act.

Every time I encountered that opening character I really wished he was the main character of the game and not Connor.

My feeling is that it was more of the voice actor and writing than anything else. He was really interesting as a kid. I loved what they did there and enjoyed that portion. But then he grows up and his acting becomes "flat". Think of Etzio and the way the voice actor there breathed live into the character. Heck think in this game of Haythem, Achilles, or others. They were really interesting to talk to and any chance I got I did.

Meh it is all IMHO. It was still a fun romp and overall a good game. I look forward to where they take AC4. I just hope we have a new character in AC4.

King George the Third was a bit of a tragic figure, highly intelligent, suffering from mild schizophrenia, and truly in love with his wife.

Time to rip into the real evil King George! Well except I don't play Assassin's Creed..but I would if I could, wooden teeth, slave sexual predator and all.

@Daneian: It's probably true that some amount of people post-revolution would have preferred Washington remained in power in perpetuity, the history behind "Washington as king" actually stems from the late period war. The American Revolution was very much a roller coaster in terms of the outcome and really until very close to Yorktown it would have been hard to determine who would win the war.

At some point during his siege of New York, Washington learned that a number of his officers, and a portion of his continental army - demoralized and disillusioned with the way Congress was handling the war - decided that maybe they should march on Philadelphia themselves and install Washington as king. When he learned of it, he immediately snuffed out any notion of such an act by responding to their leader in a letter about casting aside everything they had been fighting for. He was a pretty amazing man :)

Is it just me or does this trailer's description of this "alternate" history sound closer to the actual truth than the non-alternate history?

As a history student, I can never not pick holes in alternate histories, especially ones that take themselves really seriously. I know they're supposed to be fun and all but, hell, if it doesn't annoy people.

I can't tell if this is supposed to be taking itself seriously. To me, it looks really dumb. Also, I like how he's a 'possessed' tyrant. Cos the 'real' George Washington couldn't possibly have any character flaws whatsoever :P

This is offensive. George Washington didn't even want to be president. Taking a title of nobility (such as King) was so repugnant to the Founders that it carried the death penalty. The people who made this ought to be ashamed of themselves.

So you're saying that in their alternate history DLC they have come up with a story not just historically inaccurate but in many ways the opposite to what we know about a beloved historical figure? The nerve!

They did tell him to do that, they asked him to be King and he turned it down. Awesome guy. (Also, even if the history books mention that I have my doubts he actually turned it down)

Strong words, but don't forget that Hamilton was a brilliant economist. More controversially, his support of a central bank set a strong precedent for governmental power that exists to this day (the North arguably wouldn't have won the Civil War without its banks). Not to mention government programs ranging from environmental protection to bailouts.

I never played AC3, but this dlc sounds like an interesting aside, or at least something different.

Wasn't this titled The Tyranny of King George when it was announced? 'Cause that's a way better name, what with the ironic Anti-Federalist slant.

Im going to guarantee that this DLC mentions an "invasion" of Canada. Every time a game features a tyrannical/semi-evil USA, Canada is always one of the first countries to go down. Look at the Fallout series, Canada was annexed and you never hear any more from it.

I'd still rather fight for King Washington than against him. When they set up a faction to be this evil, I always decide I'd rather be on their side.
