@ArtisanBreads: That question is irrelevant. I decried colonialism, not the merits of white civilization. Had another race committed similar crimes in the place of Caucasians, they would still be just as bad.

And Genghis Khan is an extremely specific example. Practically all other conquerors who tried to accost Western Europe failed entirely. Furthermore, the areas where Khan attacked have recovered for the most part, excluding the Middle East. The effects of white colonialism are still visible today.

And furthermore, people have done terrible shit in the "modern era." The Belgian Congo, South Africa, Mozambique, Angola, and countless other countries have suffered injustice at the hands of insurgents in the past century.

The way their lorded their white skin and their white customs and their white mentalities over those who were heterogeneous and how they eradicated cultures, civilizations, and entire races made them evil. That my white skin still gives me a huge advantage over many people in modern society makes it evil.

Time doesn't excuse behavior. The KKK of 1920 isn't in any way more acceptable than the KKK of today's world.

But you missed the point where I said: Would no one else have acted similarly if they were in the situation with the opportunity? Did no one else act similarly on their own scale?

White people are demonized, when for example Genghis Kahn is the greatest mass murderer in the history of the world. There is no perspective.

And your KKK comparison doesn't fly with me because at least we are in the modern era. If we are going back to the times of colonialism there are so many differences I'm not sure where to begin. We are talking about a time where a medical doctor would tell you a black man wasn't a human being like you were. Extremely wrong, yes, but imagine yourself in their shoes before you simply demonize them.

Humanity probably would be doing a lot better as a whole if colonialism never happened.

Yah, because penicillin really fucked everything up.

You're right. Africa and most of South America are doing awesome right now.

You know at some point it's really hard to make out who is being sarcastic and who is serious in this quote tree.

Btw the African country I live in is doing quite fine thank you, better then some EU countries these days, and it was colonized the fuck out of. Colonialism isn't in and of itself definitively bad or good, it's how you use it and what you make of it afterwards. America didn't turn out too bad either, nor did Australia. Plenty of bad and good examples to go around either way.

Thank you for having an intelligent view point.

People who demonize white colonizers: what about them made themselves evil? Was it their white skin? Would no one else have acted similarly if they found themselves at a great technological and societal advantage to where colonialism was possible? Have no other races ever done anything questionable?

I just HATE people judging others of far different eras from a modern view of morality. It is lazy and foolish.

What's the thing blurred out @ 1:21? A Xbox 420 controller? Hmmm.

Anyway not a bad video besides the annoying overhype BS.

While I agree with most of what your saying, I dont think the natives of america would agree with you, also slaves.

Colonialism did some pretty fucked up stuff. But they also took people kicking and screaming into the modern era. Now whether they had a right to do that or not, who knows. But with out them we would not be the world we are today. Nations such as America, Canada and Australia, would not exist because of it.

@kpaadet: Slavery is indeed a hugely negative part of the colonial era. But lets not forget that slavery is also simply a continuation of serfdom in the feudal system as well as many before it, likewise forced labor under conquerors was not an uncomon thing in human history (ie slavery), and existed long before and after colonialism, as recently as WW2 being a good example. Not that i'm excusing it in any way mind you (just that it's not exclusive to col.). Lot of bad shit went on indeed :(

By i digress, my reply was mostly aimed at the comment on the current state of parts of the world affected by colonization earlier, rather then the shit that happened before.

Weird that they would blur it out when everyone knows what it looks like. Heck I've seen it in person.

It might be because he was using an Xbox controller and Sony has had all these exclusivity deals with Assassin's Creed. Part of that could be making sure they don't promote the game with any Xbox ties.

Thats very possible... and a little insane.. it might also be a wii u pro controller and this was edited before it was unveiled?

I suppose that would be possible but I feel like my theory is pretty likely Sony is investing quite a bit in the Assassin's Creed franchise. Exclusives for this game and the Vita game. But you could be right too.

Still seems too black and white in terms of good and evil. In previous games it hasn't been about nation vs nation with one side in the right, it was about individuals on both sides working for the templar, trying to take advantage of the tumultuous situation. Maybe they will have a mission where there is a revolutionary gone bad or something but they seem to be very clearly setting the theme of all red coats are evil.

That said the gameplay looks amazing...
