Movie to game titles spell crap.

Posted by ryanwho

Oh James.

Posted by F1

I have really high hopes for the game and the movie. I think James will not disappoint. It's interesting how he says they start making both things kind of simultaneously. Then, is it a game based on a movie, or a movie based on a game? lol

Its a dogmatically controlled IP. This is basically Jame's "Star Wars". Movies, games, books, TV shows, etc. and they all go through some ridiculous canon approval process. I wish he had maintained this kind of creative control over Terminator so it didn't turn into the joke it is now.

Somehow i keep thinking of airbending.

So true. T3 was ok, but Salvation was just shite.

no.  it's just another shooting game, with your avatar title on it.

well, if any game can break the stigma, it's probably this one...

Meh, It's an opinion.

A lot of big words thrown around there.

Posted by FlamingHobo

Possible great game?
We'll see...

Posted by Dany

From that press conference at ubisoft, he really seems dedicated to the game. SO i hope it turns out better then video game tied movies

Posted by wrecks

Remember Peter Jackson going off about the Kong game? yeah.

Posted by TwoOneFive

ya know what, it sounds like theyre getting the same level of commitment from everyone that games like Riddick got and Path of Neo got. I loved both of those games. this one sounds like it will be very fun.

I can't watch this, I still have nightmares from E3.

Posted by Scarabus

"The thing about Avatar is that it's not really a movie and not really a game..." and that's where I regretted watching this video and stopped.

Edited by crusader8463

I cant wait until the end of these and James Cameron pulls off his mask and you see its Peter Molyneux. I don't see why this is supposed to be such a big deal, it just looks like a generic alien world that we have seen a million times over with a generic action shooter game play. I feel sorry for anybody who expects this to be anything more then a half decent sci-fi movie, and maybe a mediocre game. Time will see if I'm wrong, but it doesn't look like i am from what i have seen so far.

Posted by Cook66

You know... I just watched this. And I watched him yap on an on at E3 and I still have no clue at all what this game is. Looks pretty much like Halo with flowers to me.

When someone has to talk so much about how great it is, but never actually show me anything I'm going to guess it's because what they have is nothing.

If this isn't some amazing new thing, neither movie nor game then it can sit there and rot on a Gamestop shelf for all I care. =/  When making a game and a movie, shouldn't that be your goal?

No, thats fact. Not ALL games based on movies suck. it is definitely a fact. Its also a fact that MOST games based on movies suck. Escape From Butcher Bay, and King Kong are definitely great games.

i dunno, i haven't seen Salvation yet, but there is no way its worse than T3, that was absolute fucking garbage. it was nothing but a huge cliche copy of T2.

I really like the look of the world, looks...big. The kind of place you'd want awesome superpowers and just move around in. Not that I think you'll be doing any of that.

At this point, who knows if it'll be good or not :/

@TwoOneFive:
Oh, you haven't seen Salvation? Listen, I rather liked T3, but if you hated it that much, trust me when I say, Salvation is worse. The only redeeming things in Salvation are Sam Worthington's performance, and Anton Yelchin's performance. They were the only two characters I ever cared about in the film.

The TV show is pretty ghetto, too.

Sounds like a simple shoot-'em up to me.  - The technology wasn't available to tell the story? Bullshit! Write a book! There probably isn't enough content for one. -

Posted by TheDarkVoid

these guys are full of crap... its not game its not a movie...its an experience. wtf?!  This game is gonna be one of the worst of the year...whenever it comes out...i read about in a 4 page spacial in a magazine, they themselfs don't even know what they want to do.

Only Pandora I'm visiting is the Pandora in Borderlands.

Oh, and interaction with the wildlife is shooting it?

This.  I cannot wait for Borderlands!
Seems like an interesting game, better than the average movie based game but still not worth my 70 euros.
Posted by Besetment

I'm putting money down for "movie will be good, game will suck." Also, I find it hilarious that there's a movie coming out called "Avatar" and another movie coming out called "The Last Airbender."

Posted by LordofControllers

Who knows if the game will be good or bad?  The thing that I like about it is that they started working on the movie and the game at the same time.  I've been waiting for someone to take that approach to a movie-game for a long time.

Well if they're made by EA than yes you are correct.
but this actually looks like a lot of work going into it, and seems to be a quality product.
They're not just looking at it like a movie version of the game, but an actual story that is being
cared for just like the film.

We'll see.....

Posted by Infinityslimit

It looks like a decent game, at the very least. Does remind me of lost planet a LOT though.

Posted by spilledmilkfactory

looks like a decent gamefly rental at the least.

@F1:

T3 was fucking terrible, what movie did YOU watch?

On another note, I dislike this "experience" BS this video is throwing out there.

... what a awful nasty negative post I have here... oh well, there's always tomarrow.
Posted by Andborn

Say what you will, I hold out NO hope for this to be a lucrative venture.

" You know the thing about Avatar is, it gives me license to take myself way too seriously." I stopped the video. It actually IS just a movie, and just a video game. It's not important or necessary. It's just entertainment, and it's way past time for entertainers to get over themselves and to just be what they are; glorified court jesters and minstrels.

"Its an experience"

No... just no... Your stupid marketing talk may work on normal imbeciles, but not me.

I stopped watching after he said that.

Posted by kwyee

looks pretty

Posted by Griddler

You heard it hear first, Avatar: The Movie is not really a movie and Avatar: The Game is not really a game.
Who'da thunk it.

Posted by Vigorousjammer

with lots of movie-based games being horrible, it's hard not to be skeptical.
but, the movie looks amazing, and this IS being developed by Ubisoft, so... there's hope there.

Posted by Wildfire570

When that guy said it was an "Experience" I thought that it was the most cheesiest thing I've ever heard. I am however very interested in this movie but I'm going to remain a skeptic until I hear more about the gameplay.

Marines... in space!

Space marines!

Wow whoever made this Dev Diary needs to cut back on all the buzzwords, they sound so trite and contrived the game looks nice though but a bunch of heavy drums, buzzwords, dramtic camera and audio effects don't sell a game to me.

I don't have a problem with directors shooting for the stars. I just think he might be a bit ...off course.

Blah blah blah blah James Cameron? blah blah blah blah.

A whole lot of rhetoric, not a lot of anything else.

Posted by Gamer_152

I heard a lot of talk and not much about the game itself. They need to tell me why I should invest my time and money in this product.
