Am I the only person who feels let down by Rockstar making this DLC more, for lack of a better word, "extreme"? As somebody who found San Andreas to be the weakest of the PS2-era GTAs, I can't help but view this as a step back.

Whenever I read the term "base jumping" I always imagine people jumping from something's base, like a foot off the ground.  Then they do the little roll you're supposed to practice before you go sky diving, and there you have it!  Sprunk all around!

The way I see it, there's two types of people: people who thought San Andreas was ingenious and people who thought it might've been a step back, such as yourself. The people who hailed San Andreas were the people who knocked on GTA IV's realism. To appease those folks, Rockstar is releasing this expansion bringing many things back to the game. It's just fan service. And it's awesome fan service. Because whether it's over the top action like this game will provide, or a more realistic tone like in GTA IV,  Rockstar delivers. 
 
And it'll be fun as hell either way.

That's the kind of wacky fun I want from a game like GTA IV.  I was beginning to worry that Saint's Row was the only open-world crime series interested in zany antics at this point.

Totally with you on San Andreas, but I think it's fine for Gay Tony.  GTA4 and Lost and Damned completely delivered on what I wanted from a next-gen GTA game by stripping back the cartooniness and focusing on building really strong characters; I'm totally fine with it if they want to go back towards crazy from there.
