So you want a world and relationship building, life simulator that actually has very little to do with the subject matter. You mean like a Harvest Dark Knight? Or more recently, Bat Life?

It's official, I've decided you shouldn't make a videogame, instead, just make a awesome CG movie.

@klager: they went for the classic look, though he is a little chunky, i'll give you that ¬.¬

And c'mon, originally yeah it was spandex but latter lore said he wore kevlar under it and then he developed Nano fibre, which is and extremely tough fabric.

I can see where people stand of the trunks but AA/C suit is better for practical reasons, I mean who could move in his Origins suit?:P

@oldirtybearon: The reason for making the characters look more detailed is due to the technology. When creating detailed areas like buildings or npcs/enemies that are more realistically rendered than cartoony something like spandex looks too plain and out of place. It lacks the amount of detail that every other part of the world has been given.

@oldirtybearon: I agree with you on all the armor, yet I think this Bats looks better than the Rocksteady one. Rocksteady went for the Animated Series look, where he wears a onesie and black briefs with a yellow belt. But their version was way too roided up for that, should've been a sleeker Bats.

When he's this muscular, just put him in some armor, or at least make the suit all black.

I'd love to say I'm getting tired of sequels, but with this and AC4, I just can't seem to help but get excited. What can I say? I'm an optimist.

@dasdude: That is most certainly an optimistic way of looking at things. It's something I never thought of. When I saw the GI article with the screenshots of the game I was concerned. The good Batman media knows that him being lithe and quiet is integral to the character. The bad Batman media over-designs the outfit and makes his reliance on gadgets a caricature of MacGyver. I guess I was thrown off when I saw him wearing cargo pants with combat boots in those images.

To add to your theory: I think it'd be a neat justification to have Batman steadily remove his armour throughout the game as he deals with situations where the extra crap hinders his ability to perform. It'd be like the final confrontation between Batman and Jean Paul Valley, only not as meta.

@oldirtybearon: Yeah, this getup really doesn't suit him (pun... intended?). I thought I heard somewhere that the lore justification for his body armor look is that in this game, he has only recently started fighting crime as Batman, so his suit is more pieced together and militaristic. Maybe throughout the game as he gets new gear he'll start looking more traditional?

That was a fantastic trailer. Not much to do with the game, but awesome to watch nonetheless. Looking forward to sinking my teeth into another Batman game. I thought I was tired of the franchise back when it was announced, but I feel like it's been long enough for me to enjoy another adventure, as long as the game lives up to Rocksteady's creations.

@agent47:

example of good Batman costume

example of bad Batman costume

The key difference between these two designs is that in Greg Capullo's (wonderfully illustrated) design, you get the sense that Batman is wearing some kind of body armour underneath the undefined material/jumpsuit. It's not "spandex" as you say, it's a material that's more durable and rugged. He has armoured gauntlets and boots, and his cowl is more like a helmet than a mask, Capullo's design is careful to "modernize" Batman without sacrificing distinguishing features. From his design you see that Batman is a) theatrical b) shadowy/stealthy c) smart enough not to purposefully draw attention to himself. Capullo's entire design is based around shadowing the Bat with his massive, pitch black cloak and his helmet.

Now as for the Injustice design, as an example, you see something a lot closer to Iron Man 3's Extremis armour prototype. It's mechanical and composed of at least several hundred moving parts. All of them are shiny, as well. It's very "Batman as Iron Man" and draws attention specifically to how shiny Batman is. For a supposed master ninja who utilizes fear, stealth, and misdirection to take down oodles of mooks, that's a heavy contradiction. On a psychological/practical level, it just doesn't work. It feels off. You don't look at that design and say "That's smart of Batman, wearing a tank as his costume." You say "Wow, he must be really shitty at his job to need all that protection."

And that's the crux of it, I think. A well designed Batman costume is designed for stealth first, and theatrics second. Batman is not loud and proud clanking armour against bullets, Batman is quiet. He's a predator. And he'll take a room full of mooks out before they've figured out what's happening.

@oldirtybearon: I don't see how, like the body armor look makes more sense in a from a realistic standpoint and in a fictional as well, seeing as he deals with a lot of gun toutin guys. I never digged the skin tight spandex look it's just goofy and absurd, but I'm guessing you had something else in mind? I just don't see what's wrong with the armor look, aside from the armor having a six pack.

if you wanna learn even more about Batman: Arkham Origins . gameinformer.com has a whole month worth of video coverage, with interviews, behind the scenes and game play.. it was their April Cover Story feature. can't wait. oh an confirmed at least 10 Assassins versus Batman. Since they're calling them assassins, can anyone else say Ra's Al Ghul? Only makes sense with a League of Assassins, if u will. and i'm looking forward to the 2-D 3DS and Vita Titles, could be super cool. peace and god speed.

I think I'm more interested to hear Troy Baker as the Joker than the game itself.

Very well produced and entertaining for sure, but absolutely pointless and a waste of money and resources. It is not at all representative of the game and serves as nothing more than time filler. It's this type of excess that's put so many publishers in the hole already. Get a better business plan, and while you're at it change the freaking name of the game, it's such obvious pandering that it's embarrassing.

So wait, Batman killed all those dudes?

No. -_-

But he opened a case of explosives in a warehouse full of unconscious dudes, which happened to blow up the warehouse. Looks a little fishy to me!

No, through the miracle of Batman they survived, probably with 3rd degree burns to 95% of their body and missing limbs, but they are breathing, so Batman sleeps well at night in his mansion.

Some parts of this trailer just felt like watching a movie. Sick trailer! I'm expecting that batman arkham origins is going to be better then the last 2, so, some companies should put their eyes onto WB Games. It is possible to launch a game in same franchise better than the last.

This is impossible, Deathstroke isn't supposed to be fighting up close. He's supposed to stand far away and shoot over and over again with his guns.

That's what Injustice taught me, anyways...

So Troy Baker has to follow up Mark Hamill huh? That sure is an ungrateful job and I hope he is able to differentiate his version of the character enough that I'll like this depiction of the Joker just as much as I did in AA and AC (that "Only You" song was such a fitting ending).

Is there a WB mandate to make all of their superhero costumes look as shitty as possible? The designs in Injustice were the absolute worst but this seems like it could be a close second.

Covering the designs in straps and buckles and goofy chunks of space marine armor adds nothing to the characters or the setting and it looks awful and ostentatious, why keep doing it?

I don't think this is horrible (the Nolan Batsuits were all worse), but I agree on the basic point.

Here's a defense of an underrated game: Spider-Man Web of Shadows had superhero costumes I really liked. They all looked like clothing, but were also very textured and wrinkled when they moved in a cool way without losing the silhouette.

Really entertaining trailer, would make a great movie. As a game, well how the hell do I know. Bit disappointed with the costume, makes think of the movies, as the costume got more intricate the movie quality deteriorated. We're a couple of armoured nipples from disaster here people!

That's a pretty fucking great trailer.

I know that Rocksteady isn't making this, but I'm too big a Batman fan to not be excited for this. Set to come out right after NYCC, so couldn't be coming at a better time for me.

And seriously, who else other than Kevin Conroy could they get? The man has incredible range, I'd offer up Gotham Knight, the anime short stories dvd release a while ago, as an example of how Conroy could believably portray different versions of Bruce Wayne, all one after another. So, him portraying a young Batman should be a breeze for him.
