Blizzard Joins the MOBA Game With Heroes of the Storm

Seems too late, but I guess a lot of people like WoW so they'll probably play.

This trailer is massively disappointing coming from Blizzard

Man, they do take their sweet ass time with their StarCraft II expansions.

Cheer up, grumpypants. This is literally a teaser trailer for an actual unveiling at Blizzcon.

They weren't going to spend half a million dollars having their CGI department animate a trailer for a name change.

They're gonna have to do something drastically different with the genre if they wanna stand out at this point.

I saw this somewhere and thought this is going to be some sort of mock video of Blizzard Dota. But apparently it's real. No really.

This isn't a trailer. They hired a youtube cartoonist to announce the name change. We'll see the actual product at Blizzcon I'm sure.

Heart of the Swarm, Heroes of the Storm. Even though one's a game and one's an expansion it seems like an idiotic move to have two Blizzard products named 'Hots'

@kidavenger: I'm 90% sure this isn't what the game isn't going to look like. Carbot is just an animator that makes these "chibi" like videos for SC2. Pretty sure Blizzard just hired him to do this since they don't want to make a full CG thing but also don't want to show the game yet. Also the idea of Heroes of the Swarm is already silly so the animation fits well.

It was animated by a fan who does a popular series of Starcraft animations on YouTube. Here's a link, they're called Carbot Animations. The game will look similar to what we've seen previously.

The trailer made me think the game will offer three team games of DOTA.

Hey ! Another company is going after the MOBA money. I'm really looking forward to see how this will turn out. Oh wait...

Weird, usually Blizzard is on the opposite side and it's OTHER companies trying to go for the WoW money. I thought they would've learned.

Also, I love Carbot's Starcraft animations. I've watched almost all of them, I would recommend it if you have a few hours to kill. They are really cute and funny.

You know you've got a hella memorable name for your game when both "Storm" and "Heroes" are in the title. Only Legends of the Heroes of the Storm: Origins could have topped this.

Honestly, I don't really care. After being incredibly disappointed by Diablo 3 I see no reason to trust that blizzard can pull off a quality Moba. I mean, besides designing wc3 that basically have never made a Moba style game before.

Valve has really made Blizzard seem lumbering and out of touch with Dota 2.

So that's why Carbot had to delay StarCr☆fts for a week.

If you haven't yet, you guys should look up his terrific animations on youtube. All hail the Overlord with the mineral crystal.

It can't and won't be called "HOTS"; plus there's another game with that acronym anyway.

Is HOTS a MOBA, a LOMA, a MAG, an ARTS or a *head explodes*

It's just a name change announcement to get everyone up to speed before Blizzcon (they had to announce the new name today because they released the Blizzcon schedule which has panels about this game). Nothing you saw really has anything to do with the game other than it's name.

Why are Blizzard trying to be all cutesy and indie twee with this trailer? I get they got a fan to do it and thats cool community outreach but this is a major corporation behind this not some 4 man indie team in their parents basement posting games to NewGrounds. Especially when the game will look nothing like this, it's disingenuous, don't bite that indie DIY style to shovel your big budget wares.

I like blizzard stuff, I hope this is good.

What's with the negativity people? I am hyped for this, if you haven't already seen some of the stuff they announced, they are making very important changes, for the better too, I might be tempted to say some of the stuff is more hardcore than dota 2.

Interesting to see Blizzard being a follower instead of an innovator for once, and especially on something they sat on for years and ignored the potential of.

This really is an awful trailer.

Hearthstone will be my free to play fix, I have DotA 2 if I have an itch for that genre.

Great now in stead of Dota or LoL we can all play HOTS!

I need to watch more Carbot stuff. I keep forgetting to do that.

A lot of people don't know about StarCrafts, apparently. Carbot Animation, folks. It's quite funny and cute.

No more MOBAS please, the seems to be a new one coming out every week and with the exception of Dawngate I cannot see any of them possibly appealing to me outside of LoL, Dota 2 and Awesomenauts

Love that animation style, but I don't think it's possible for me to love a LOMA other than DotA 2 at this point.

They probably should have added a tiny piece of gameplay footage at the end. I bet 50% of the people who watched this think that the game is going to look like this.

Seems like it will have Warcraft, Starcraft, and Diablo characters at least. That's my assumption, anyway.

Anybody else notice that all the sound was built out of audio files from previous Blizzard games? I'd know a number of those sounds anywhere. Interesting touch, I imagine that was the animator's doing.

I'm really not sure what to think of Blizzard these days. SC2 has been mismanaged to hell, Diablo 3 was not that great in retrospect, WoW is still falling off, and this game is coming years too late after other companies showed how it's done when it comes to competitive games.

I'm sure they still make oodles of money on releases and WoW, but I have trouble seeing where their creative talent goes or considering them one of the top tier developers out there. Titan better be amazing.
