Borderlands Is Getting a Pre-Sequel

Not jumping out of my seat excited, but I'll sure play more Borderlands, and big jumps and jetpacks and ground pounds all seem like great additions. More or less a guaranteed purchase from my end.

A last gen "presequel" with a different dev, huh? Feels very "Arkham Origins."

Unfortunately, IIRC, he was in the trailer for the Telltale game.

So I guess the title could be "Borderlands: Leftover Ideas"

Wouldn't a pre-sequel just mean the same game?

Sequel = Advance one step

Pre = Backtrack one step

Total Sum = 0

The new classes intrigue me. I might pick this up when it's on a steam sale.

I'll play more Borderlands, sure. I'm still more interested in a full Borderlands 3, but if this is designed to fill the gap so that that game can come out once the current-gen consoles are more established (so as to better-utilise that hardware for a more expansive game) I'm all for that.

As long as there's still little to no character customisation and 1active skill, I'm out. Dumb fun is fine, but nothing that's going to make me plug in my PS3 or pick this over a current gen title.

Now there's a reason to game in 2014. Figured I'd have to wait a few years for some decent new Borderlands content. I've sunk more hours into the Borderlands franchise than life.

Given the last months worth of emails to the Bombcast...I am hopeful. Because just about any one of those from random people in Australia...were funnier than some of the tired humor we got for Borderlands 2. More than anything...I grew weary of them finding a sliver of humor in some of their gags..and then just proceed to pound you with it over and over again..to the point...I turned off the volume on my system during the Torgue DLC! If I heard that dude scream Badass one more time....

I'll play this. I can't believe it is on the old consoles, though. How weird is it that old games are getting current game updates, while new games are getting made for the old gen.

I dunno... That's cool... kinda... maybe... sure... ok!?

Yet another beloved franchise releasing a pointless prequel made by a different studio. Borderlands of War: Arkham Ascension Origins Judgment? I thought we were past this?

I dont understand the negativity I am seeing here...when did Borderlands become a bad thing? I love the series and I think this new version looks rad...low-gravity plus jetpacks seem like a perfect fit.

Shouldn't it be a Se-Prequel?

I'm perfectly fine with this as an appetizer for whatever Gearbox has planned for Borderlands 3. Hopefully, it's not a $60 game, but even if it is, the price will drop fast.

Well I like supporting my countries developers when possible but man, they couldn't have picked a less interesting project.

Sounds like the guys at Gearbox are bored and can't come up with their next game. So they made this... instead, which is sad really. Talk about beating a dead horse? Everyone knows Handsome Jacks rise to power from playing Borderlands 2, he killed everyone and then took the position for himself. And it's cool that you can finally play as a claptrap but I am still going to pass at this.

For a Borderlands game everything about this looks incredibly bland.

I didn't hate Handsome Jack, but he wasn't some great character that I needed more of.

Not glorified DLC at all.

I do hope that you won't be managing oxygen like in Doom 3 and Dead Space.

You're right, Handsome Jack sucks.

I also am a sucker for Borderlands. Absolutely love the series, and have spent well over 300 hours combined with them.

This looks like it could be cool, if the game plays like Borderlands 2 or better (the new mechanics could be interesting) then I am sold. Also, I totally want to play as Claptrap the Fragtrap (mainly because for some reason the name tickled me like Zero, it is a number did for Borderlands 2).

I love Borderlands but fuck Pitchford.

Given the surprising decent story of Borderlands 2, and some of the elements from the first game, I'd say an origin sequel is warranted.

Looks kind of bland. I think Borderlands 2 burnt me out enough that I'll either get this in a steam sale or wait for Borderlands 3.

However good to see that an Australian dev team still exists, it seems like most of them have died out here.

Pitchford need to step away from the camera a bit, and he needs to stop hyping up his own games, the public had enough of lies coming from his mouth, Duke, Aliens etc. As far as I'm concerned, Gearbox doesn't exist on my map anymore.

Because I really, REALLY want to know more about Handsome Jack...

@bacongames: He features in the teaser trailer for the TTG Borderlands game, so you might be out of luck there.

Speaking more generally about Handsome Jack, he's victim to the risk you run when you make a villain deliberately aggravating. Which is to say, some people totally get motivated to boot his face in, and others just want him to stop since they find him actually aggravating.

I want less story, less voice acting, better quests. Borderlands 2 they went too high production on it and it lost something along the way. Part of the greatness of the first game was the lack of bullshit exposition and cut scene watching that plagues so many other mainstream games these days.

Note to developers and PR people: using the phrase "full stand-alone experience" instantly red flags your whole pitch to me as we're taking too long on this dlc and we're putting it out on disc because we think maybe we can make a little more money that way okay but this is a real full game guys all the stuff sixty dollars.
