Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel Has a Release Date

These jokes hurt.

I'm not a big Borderlands fan, but this game looks pretty cool!

I think it's a combination of all of these, to be honest.

I loved Borderlands 1 but wasn't nearly as enthralled with Borderlands 2 which, in my opinion, eschewed a lot of what was good with Borderlands 1 and replaced it with a focus on the story and raid bosses. Borderlands 2 story was far better than most, don't get me wrong, but I didn't sink nearly 600 hours into Borderlands 1 for story, nor did I spend hundreds of hours grinding Crawmerax kills. Borderlands 2, with the constant reliance on "the Invincible" bosses that dropped the best loot in the game, multiple currencies buying multiple segregated gearsets, and active buffing/nerfing of gear, started to feel more like they were dipping their toe into the waters of MMOs rather than sticking to ARPG.

Then there was the constant barrage of DLC. By the second headhunter pack, I was tired of seeing new Borderlands 2 DLC and was hoping they would just stop and move on to a next gen sequel. This Pre-Sequel smells like an extended DLC pack that will be on par with Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep rather than a full fledged game and that tends to turn me off as well. Plus the outsourced DLCs for Borderlands have been, imo, some of the weakest, stretching all the way back to the weaksauce that was Claptrap's DLC in Borderlands 1; this game is ENTIRELY outsourced with Gearbox working only on the periphery.

As for distrust of Gearbox, outside of Borderlands they don't exactly have a stellar record for the last few years. Borderlands 1 and Borderlands 2 have been the only bright spots and those have been marred with Duke Nukem Forever and Aliens: Colonial Marines.

love borderlands and am psyched for more even if it is not a huge step forward...but damn this trailer is gaudy as fuuuuuuuck.

it seems like the general populace has a pretty negative opinion on the franchise at the moment and i wonder why. could it be distrust of gearbox? is it the tone? is it the fact that this is essentially an expansion pack? or are they really burnt out on the gameplay premise? destiny seems to be taking a lot of ideas from this franchise so i kinda doubt people are opposed to the idea of a diablo-esque shooter.

Finding out about this made me forget all about TellTale's Borderlands adventure game.

Starting to come down to the realization that Borderlands 1 meant something to me for some reason... I liked my character so that kind of made for a story. The zillion guns and the occasional true winner had me hooked like a big fish. Since then, well....

But I will come back someday.

I played the shiiiit out of Borderlands 2, but somehow I'm not really feeling this.

I mean, good on you if you are. Between BL2 and what feels like a half dozen expansion packs, I'm pretty full up on BL for a while. Unless something is significantly different besides gravity.

I'm not sure how I feel about the game itself (I still have yet to buy Borderlands 2), but man the phrase "jovial fear pooping" is pretty delightful.

IIRC they mentioned a lower price point than full retail.

Harmonix, huh. I think this game will be fun but probably not much beyond that. With all the 2015 delays going on lately this has oddly become one of the more prominent fall releases.

Acrylics was the best part of that trailer. Honestly, the only good part.

I liked the 2nd game enough to give this game a go and since October is looking less exciting this year this might be the game to fill the void.

so if claptrap is playable and one of the gameplay elements is managing air supply, how would that work out? Claptrap is a robot.

As some who played Borderlands 1 & 2 A LOT and enjoyed those games, I can't muster any excitement about this. I didn't care for some of the design decisions in 2 and I remember not liking the DLC. The humor has also kind of lost the charm for me. I'll probably wait for this to hit $20 before playing it.

I feel like they're really trying to hard with the "we're so ridiculous and cool guyzzzz!" style to literally everything they put out. I'm down for dumb laughs but it gets pretty tiring when that's all you get.

This trailer confirmed my suspicion that I'm not into Borderlands anymore.

My wife adores the Borderlands universe something fierce and this does not disappoint! Her enthusiasm for these games is extremely infectious so even an old grump like me gets a little giddy seeing this bad-but-really-good trailer.

Not my case, though. Having skipped most Borderlands 2 DLC, I am nowhere near burned out and ready for some more...

I'm not sure that trailer's half as funny as Gearbox thinks, but whatever, I still want to get my hands on it as soon as possible.

Certainly not. Actually, I fell like the only person who wanted them to just make another one of these games and get it out fast. The existing tech on the PC is super sexy so I'd rather have something now instead of waiting another year or two for a UE4 based sequel.
