So..Patrick just finished the game and he doesn't remember how to beat the boss...riiight...

It's the "Patrick looooves Jurassic Park" story all over again, where he QL's the Telltale game, brags about having extensive knowledge about everything Jurassic Park movie related, and then can't remember main character's names, basic plot details etc.

I mean, when more than half the comments are people COMPLAINING about the content of the video, you're clearly fucking up.

I would venture that, at tops, a THIRD of the people who visit this site (or any site) even leave comments. And people are always more likely to leave a comment if they're pissy than if they're happy. So I wouldn't say that's and accurate measutre of anything.

If I wanted to watch someone play a video game, I'd go to YoutTube, I come here for all the insanity around it.

I got to the boat part in 08' and stopped playing the game. It would be nice to see the end of the game(without searching it from youtube) but seeing as how annoying this video was and I'm not sure if I want to see more of these guys playing the game...I guess I'll just have to live without knowing how it ends.

Oh god. That thing right there embodies everything that is wrong with audiences these days:

"I want to finish this story, so let´s jump around and talk over a story moment. Why can´t I go on? Maybe I just have to listen to the guy. Can somebody explain what´s going on, I´ve been busy jumping around not paying attention. Hey, why don´t we jump into that hole and do the whole thing over, because we don´t like to pay attention."

You remember how games used to be about paying some fucking attention? Well, I guess the times have changed.

Pretty much this, granted brad hadn't played the game in a long time so I can't be angry over the fact that he didn't remember how to play the game at all or what to do, but patrick just finished this game a couple months ago and he was less help than dave.

I don't understand how this means times have changed, though. The game required paying attention, they didn't, they failed. Just as always. They didn't do any better here than they would have in Doom.

Patrick is like a little kid sitting behind you in the theatre, kicking your chair. Then you turn around to tell him to stop, but a burly lady with a bomb for a head tells you that you can't complain, even though you're wearing the gold medal that you bought from her last April. I think I'm onto something here guys.

In these type of videos, someone should always have a FAQ open as a requirement. Seriously it would save an hour of being lost and dying a million times. Just a suggestion.

But then why would you want to watch the vid? What y'all fail to realize is that watching these guys be all pro at playing a game would be INCREDIBLY BORING. The problem here wasn't that people were goofing around, the problem was that Brad was very clearly struggling and no help was offered. The chat was "screaming" how to play, and Patrick never thought to look at the chat and provide help. Remember; the goal of this video was to get Brad to the ending so he'd be prepared for The Darkness 2. Patrick I can understand droning but considering Dave does Random PC Game with Vinny, you would think he'd be aware just how critical the chat can be to solving gameplay problems and making progress.

Bottom line there was a support structure in place and absolutely nobody thought it'd be a good idea to help their co-worker out. There were points five, ten minutes in the video where I was getting angry at Dave and Patrick because they absolutely refused to shut up about their Klingons and help Brad.

While people are probably a little more vocal about it than is necessary, it is a little frustrating watching them stumble through playing the game and grasp basic concepts, as well as talk over pretty important story beats. I like the videos they produce normally and I'm going to watch this all the way through, but I cop to the fact that it can be a bit of a grind on the nerves sometimes.

Well, times have changed, since The Darkness was released in 2007 and back then already kinda felt like a relic from the last generation. It does so even more now. This is not a bad thing, games were just a little different back then. You had to pay a little attention and the games wouldn´t hit you in the head with big fat arrows that said "FOLLOW THIS DUDE" all the time. Also, a lot of games used to be slower paced. Just compare a modern FPS to The Darkness or Riddick. Yeah, not a fair comparison, since they are not really traditional shooters but still. We live in a world where people will actively start breaking the game for themselves by dicking around and not paying attention if it slows down just for a few minutes.

Also, I like the lighting the Giant Bomb guys used here. Perfect for the game they were playing.

People don't complain anywhere near as much when the crew just plays badly. Sure, enough people are pretty damned vocal about it when the vast majority couldn't care less.

The problem is when you go into a game wilfully ignorant and then either talk shit about the game as it's the game's fault that you didn't bother to look up basic mechanics or were dicking around too much to see the on-screen text telling you exactly what to do/where to go.

The former can be amusing. The latter is just so f*cking frustrating to watch for a lot of people on this site.

So ostensibly the entire idea behind this video was Patrick's, what with The Darkness 2 coming out soon and a good chance for Brad to see the end of the game, fine, good concept. I feel bad for Brad though, considering he hasn't touched the game in nearly five years, it's no surprise he hit some snags and was lost for what looks like a good 50% of the time. The problem lies in the fact that once he hit those walls, he was left completely high and dry by the people around him.

I don't hate Patrick, Dave or Brad, but that video was frustrating to watch. It didn't seem like anyone was particularly interested in getting Brad any progress in the game, or reflecting on how the first game is different from the sequel (what evolved, what outright changed, etc). Brad's impatience seemed to almost be born of frustration in being abandoned to flail through a game he barely remembers.

At least when Brad was dying again and again in any of the Breaking Brad videos, he seemed to actually want to be playing.

Blame cannot be put on any one member of the GB staff, this simply wasn't terribly good content, and while I've watched the whole thing through once, unlike most of the subscriber-exclusive content, I will not be revisiting to watch it again.

Wait, so when people say "games used to be better before" they mean 2007?

You're just trying to make me feel old now.

For the record, I don't think this is true. Just because Modern Warfare is popular doesn't mean that all shooters out there are just like Modern Warfare. Some things in their model have stuck, others haven't. The trick here is that people have come to think that "FPS" only means "action FPS in the vein of Call of Duty". When something like Bioshock or Dead Island comes around, people now call them "RPGs", which is kinda ridiculous, really.

Also, I'm pretty sure the guy's reactions were more of a product of a Friday afternoon than of any influence of games on them. They just didn't care about the game at all, which made for a rather boring video. If your take on this was correct, then we'd have to give it to all the researchers who say that games make you violent. After all, if five years of Call of Duty could turn you into an ADD-ridden goldfish, I'm pretty sure it could also make you stab your landlord in the eye.

Yeah, there are still FPS games that take their time and let you soak in the world, not just funnel you quickly down this awesome tube of explosions. A good example of this is Metro 2033. That game is a gem. Really looking forward to the sequel.

I literally just finished this game 2 hours ago. There's really nothing wrong with the feel of the shooting. There's a weird auto-aim system (which I pumped up to full as I couldn't bother being precise), but apart from that it's FINE. However the overall movement and feel of the game is quite slow.

Also, Brad is terrible at games. Trying the same tactics over and over and over again for the same failed results clearly isn't the way to be doing things! When you notice enemies come back to life once shot down and that you need to devour the heart to properly take them out, why would you play SLOWER?

And another also, why the fuck are you playing a game for the story if you are so impatient at all the story bits?! It's fucking ludicrous that you can't seem to stand still for a second when there's exposition because you just want to finish a game you have just re-started FOR THE STORY!

Patrick not helping out at the boss fight was incredibly dickish, especially having only played the game a matter of months ago, you can't have forgotten that much...

@DjCmeP said:

I got to the boat part in 08' and stopped playing the game. It would be nice to see the end of the game(without searching it from youtube) but seeing as how annoying this video was and I'm not sure if I want to see more of these guys playing the game...I guess I'll just have to live without knowing how it ends.

I can tell you, still fresh for me. Although you're really right at the end. At worst another hour left.

So...

You clear the boat out, then get told that your Aunt is under fire. You go back to her place, help clear out the horde of enemies there along with some of the companions you've gathered over the journey. Once you've done that, you get offered the role as 'The Don' of the family that you obviously accept.

From there you get told by Butcher to take a boat to a mansion (the mansion Patrick is talking about through the vid) to finally go kill Paulie. This is done in daylight for the first half, where you have to gradually make your way up a big staircase taking out enemies. Then once you get to the top you have more enemies as well as floodlights blocking your powers, here is a huge spawning of enemies almost constantly. Taking them out and entering the mansion see's a bunch of cutscenes where you 'embrace the Darkness' and it's just you taking out enemies by using the tentacle thing, mainly not controlling this. Then once the cutscenes have finished, you clean up a few more enemies, move onto a room with Paulie who you proceed to take out with him begging for his life.

Once that is done it fades to black where you're taken to this place and Jenny is there cradling Jackie on a park bench. She says how 'we've only been given one moment', Jackie doesn't quite understand and Jenny re-iterates 'one moment'. Jackie apologises for getting Jenny killed, to which she says 'I can't forgive you for that, because it wasn't your fault'. The camera pans out with her stroking Jackie's hair and that's it. This end scene is surprisingly touching I must say, the emotion in the voices of both Jackie and Jenny really makes you feel for the situations. Done.
