Brad Thinks He Knows the Ending to Mass Effect 3

I agree that Brad will probably be like "Meh, the ending wasn't that bad, it's just not all that I hoped it would be." This will be almost as disappointing as the ending itself and will re-ignite the immense nerd rage I experience whenever someone tries to defend it as being good.

But no, I should give Brad more credit. Most people who genuinely like the ME series and have critical thinking skills understand that the ending to ME3 is awful. It's just not easy to sum up why, because there are so many things that go horribly wrong in the final moments of the game. There are some good videos on youtube that attempt to address this mess, however.

The ending itself is not Mass Effect 3's problem, the problem is they had to make an ending to a story they didn't tell, while the ones they did tell saw resolution. Meanwhile, those resolutions, apart from galactic readiness, are completely disconnected from the main arc. ME3 ending, which actually is the end of the reaper story, is unfixable, unless you remove the end and release a fourth game where you actually have to fight the reapers which would leave time and space for prior resolutions to unfold.

Regardless of what you think of ME3's ending, this action of Brads has made it worthwhile. Definitely suspect on what he wrote down.

I much prefer the original ending to the neutered horseshit that is the extended cut. Say what you will about the original ending, that shit was bold. The Extended Cut doesn't even have that going for it.

Interested to see what's in that envelope. Considering the kind of eleventh hour nonsense stuff that ending hinges on, I doubt Brad's got the right answer, and whatever he's written is probably far more logical than what actually happens.

This should be a new segment. Halfway through a game the guys write down how they think it will end! Also, I totally would love to see Brad do a live stream of him doing the ending to see his reaction.

Agreed with others on them aiming a camera at Brad as he goes through the original ending choices of ME3.

I didn't play Mass Effect 3, but I did play 2, as someone who had a PS3 that got broken late last year.

...Why is the ending bad? All the story stuff I've looked up on it seems totally reasonable. I could go into it, but I don't know how to spoiler on Giant Bomb.

It might be too late for a streaming of the ending, considering that they're all off work for the weekend. But it would be pretty fantastic if it were arranged.

Still, it's probably best he plays it on his own so that he has the chance to truly stop and digest what he has experienced.

I think this is it. The ending was bad way more for what doesn't happen, than what does.

As someone who enjoyed ME3, but liked it a lot less than the other 2, I think that the "internet hivemind" was also primed and ready to rip apart ME3 regardless of how the game actually was, and glommed on to some of those aspects of the ending as problems emblematic to all of modern Bioware (and I'm not sure I entirely disagree).

I feel like ACIII's time is gonna be GotY. They are keeping quiet on the spoilers, but they are gonna unleash there. But even then. I thought Desmond's end was lame (but I don't like Desmond at all) but I found Connor's ending pretty good with the right amount of, "Fuck you man" in those closing moments.

@mlarrabee: Play ME3, man. The ending is fucking terrible, but the game is great and feels like a fitting conclusion to the series up until that point. It's literally only in the last 10-15 minutes that everything goes to shit. While I don't know that I have a desire to return to the game because of that, I also think anyone who has played ME1 and ME2 is invested enough to get a lot of enjoyment out of the rest of ME3.

Connor's ending was fine, but Desmond's definitely felt like Ubisoft were making it up as they went along, with no idea how to conclude it.

It was abrupt, and that one character was stupid, sure. But the absolute outrage came from the fact that very little happens at the end; you make your choice, and then it just kinda ends. If you really think about it, each choice represents a CRAZY different vision for the future of the universe, but what you see as a player is almost the same across the three (hence the "3 colors" joke that came of it).

Yes, the internet was primed and ready to hate Mass Effect 3 before it came out. The ending isn't great, but my issue had more to do with how binary it is - you literally just pick door 1, 2 or 3 - than the actual content. And the free DLC expansion of the ending made it fine.

Frankly, I think it's a shame, because the game is otherwise an improvement on Mass Effect 2, in my opinion. And lest we forget the ending of Mass Effect 2 wasn't exactly fucking Shakespeare. That Terminator robot boss fight was the dumbest shit ever, as was the justification for all of it.

Brad will just shrug his shoulders when he sees it, primarily because Jeff totally oversold how bad it is.
