I totally agree. If there's no real consequence to dying, the gameplay loses a certain amount of impact for me. Of course, I like roguelikes, too, and I certainly don't expect everyone to enjoy that sort of thing.

I suppose, like everything, the key is balance. ENOUGH punishment, but not TOO MUCH. I'm sure it's a very tough line to walk.

It's clearer with, say, guidance systems. I don't want the Fable golden breadcrumbs leading me everywhere I need to go, especially if I can't turn that shit off. But I don't necessarily want CRPG-tier wandering aimlessly, either - I'd like to be able to sit down and accomplish something (or fail in the attempt) every session, I don't want to spend it lost in a place that's pointless for me to be in.

I think Skyrim and Dark Souls both do pretty well at this for different reasons. Skyrim lets you have as much guidance as you want. Quest markers not enough for you? A spell will give you those Fable breadcrumbs, temporarily. But you can also ignore all of that and make your own way. Dark Souls, on the other hand, is just an open book, and can admittedly be kind of confusing. But it gives you just enough hints (and is designed in a linear ENOUGH fashion, although that's not quite the right word), to make your way for yourself. Two sides of a coin, neither is perfect, but both have some BALANCE to them.

So yeah, you need to find a middle ground. /rant

Hmm, resident evil 4 has some of the music from this game.

Could this be a new Endurence run? It will be for me. I've never played the Dmc games, but after watching this video I plan to fix that.

@Toxin066: Haven't watched this all the way through yet but if it's Brad dying repeatedly on that one really hard DMC game over and over, this will be a lot like Breaking Brad.

This made me go play DMC1 HD. That game has not aged badly whatsoever, one of the best games ever!

Can't wait to play DMC3, I haven't played that. Maybe I'll pop on by DMC4's way if I get that far.

Man, these games are so good. One of the best series ever. The combat is just incredible. If only we could get a remake of the excellent locales of Devil May Cry 1 with the combat of DMC4 or DmC. I just finished the Ninja Theory game, screw the haters, they did a freaking excellent job. Really hope they get to make another one. They made Dante cool again, he was seriously uncool in the later games if you ask me. He did some awesome stuff in those games, but just his personality was the worst. The characterization in DmC was greatly appreciated.

I totally missed this as well. They need advertise this stuff more.

This is another one I have thought about going with the HD collection on. I have all the originals. Still, it seems like the only real improvement is widescreen.

Maaaaaan. When I was younger I used to play DMC1 all of the damn time. I've probably beaten it close to 12-15 times.
