@sparkleen: I think the Endurance Run is an every day thing. This is a "when they feel like it" thing, which is fine by me.

How are you guys so damn fast? I wish I could render and upload shit that fast, jesus. I've got a 40 minute video I need to render out and compress down to under 2 GB and just the pass to take it to 20-ish is going to take three freakin' hours.

@mordeaniischaos: If you haven't seen it yet, check out How to Make a TNT. I don't understand all the technical wizardry involved, but it sounds like they try to encode all their video on the fly, so it's basically ready to go on the site almost as soon as they're done recording.

Nah, they archive it in a much higher quality and upload it to a server which does the compression and puts it on the site automatically.

I can't wait for them to get to DMC in a few years :p

Ugh. The underwater level was the worst.

I don't believe they are uploading raw footage though, they have some sort of process that works, either in real time or is run on a machine after the show, as I recall.

Regardless of how they do it, it's not something I can do without investing in a lot of hardware :p

So every 17-20 minutes streaming the streaming video function just eats shit and dies. Fix your shit, GB.

Never played a DMC before, but if you told me that there was an first-person underwater element to the game, I would have called you crazy.

It's not uncompressed of course. They have a 5GB limit per file for uploading to that server, which is a problem when they go over about 3 hours, maybe less. When that happens (Unprofessional Fridays: 02/01/13) they have to split the file and do uploading manually or they reencode it in the office to fit the upload limit. The whole process takes a looong time (that video appeared 3 days later - they propably tried both ways).

My guess is two hardware h.264 encoders. One portable and that box that's connected to a Mac.

3 hours at 4 Mbps (highest quality available on the site) is 5273 MB. Which would suggest that the file they send there is the same you get for download. Looks like that off-site encoder only makes 3 lower quality files.

Is this roughly correct @drewbert, @vinny ? Do you also archive at higher bitrates localy?

The underwater levels in DMC1 suck so bad. Unfortunately, they make an appearance in Lucia's DMC2 campaign, but at least Dante's spared.

I'm glad that they're getting back to the staffer-specific video series, though I'd love to see Vinny's Load Our Last Save series come back so he can finish Freedom Fighters.

So this series started because controversy regarding Brad's review of DMC and him wanting to find out about the original.

We have learned that the original wasn't that hard after all, that the camera is really broken and that we had all collectively agreed to forget that at one point it becomes a crappy six axis FPS.

I'd say mission accomplished. Totally worth it, too. That said, no reason to stop. He's burning through this and there are three more to go. Stealth ER needs to keep on going.

@noelveiga: It's a lot harder than DmC:Devil May Cry and the camera really isn't that bad if you've played any fixed camera game before. The underwater stuff is about 20 minutes total of the game and isn't really bad, just weird. DMC on Normal is like DmC on Dante Must Die except in DmC you can kill bosses in less than 10 hits on Dante Must Die mode.

Yeah. I really, really liked DmC and I'm a Devil May Cry fan. Everyone has their own opinion of course, but when I saw people saying it was too easy, I kind off figured allot of people were just bashing the game to bash it. DMC has never, ever, been a hard game. Everyone can finish it. It only gets difficult on higher difficulty levels. I guess people think it's 'cool' to be able to finish a game other people can't or don't want to.
