Bradley May Cry: Part 04

I'm hard to frustrate when watching something, but it's really bizarre to me the way that Brad never seems to grasp the R1 + forward/backward + Triangle thing. That's like, every attack in the game that's not button button button or button button, pause, button. It's not complicated.

I always thought the ease of executing impressive, stylish combos was part of the series' appeal, but apparently I was wrong.

FUCKING DIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!

That was unbelievably funny.

The biggest problem with Brad playing this game on camera is that he is a giant pussy. It's like, because the dodge/air dodge isn't as "get out of any situation for free" as in the new DmC, he just wusses out and never uses melee (at least in this stream).

And he's still way too conservative with activating the Devil Trigger. It's like he hates life gain!

Also, when Brad restarted the blob boss, he screwed himself out of a bunch of red orbs by skipping the shadow Dante or anything in the one hallway. I know he wants to keep the stream moving, but seriously, grind for some red orbs sometimes, because he could certainly use the extra help.

That ending of the battle against the giant bird was fantastic. Like a Dragonball Z amount of yelling

How I beat the entire second game. Fire rocket. Roll out of enemy fire. Repeat until everything was dead. Honestly Brad's strategy is kind of boring to watch, but it really works most of the time. He should dodge a lot more, but what he's doing is a viable strategy.

"Breaking Brad" is the wrong tense. This video proves it's "Broken Brad".

I don't know what changed "behind the scenes" but videos seem to run at like ~60 FPS! It's fucking awesome and I hope it can stay that way!

Holy shit, what has happened to GiantBomb's low video quality? It used to be nearly as good as high but now it's fucking unwatchable.

I bet this compilation has the Special edition not the original one. That one's way, way easier.

I swear that I beat this game back in the day, it was one of the first PS2 "Greatest Hits" titles I bought; yet I can remember none of this, not even vaguely.

Agree. I appreciate the fact that Brad even remembered this feature once his DOTA addiction set in, but 2 months is a while. If I wait that long in-between sessions, I would have to start over. Got to commit doing one every 1-2 weeks, like BioForge.

At least I can watch this; I do not know a thing about DOTA.

Yeah, I was wondering why Brad plays this like a shooter with melee components instead of the other way around. Even Brad's experience with DmC should've taught him that much.

At the same time, it's kinda amazing to see someone brute force this game.

DMC is known for its all grande launcher action game play. Haven't you seen the youtube videos of all those sick grenade launcher combos that only use the grenade launcher?

seriously this is kind of messed up. I had NO IDEA you could play DMC this wrong.

@golguin: The original DMC3 was a lot harder on Normal than the SE which is the version in the HD remake. Plus you can have infinite continues in Gold Orb mode.

I don't understand why everyone thinks DMC3 is super hard. I had way more of a difficult time with DMC1. I couldn't even play much of it on normal. Whereas on DMC3, I beat the original version on normal without much issue. Weird.

It was okay but a couple of difficulty spikes like the big guys before the succubus. But I suck at collecting things and always end up not fully leveled my character up being stuck with a small health bar etc. Same happened with Bioshock Infinite with me.

@meatball: I'd go as far as to say that DMC3 has the hardest "Normal" difficulty I've ever played. Well, along with Ninja Gaiden Black.

How about doing some hack and slash in a hack and slash game Brad?

Props to Vinny for being ever so patient, supportive and light-hearted.

Pretty good week on Giantbomb... seems like they are back to their former glory.

I don't really care about Bradley May Cry, but if it was Bradley: Prepare to Die Edition, oh yes, I can get behind that idea.

It's like Brad isn't thinking about whats going on while hes playing. Sooo frustrating.

Can't he see that he is shooting the grenade launcher at the shield part and not the floating orb?

@cptbedlam: To be fair, on normal difficulty grenade roll+air raid destroys most things.

Two months in between segments is too long though. Watching Brad basically starting from scratch everytime can be somewhat tedious at times and it also doesn't do the game proper justice. Many of Brad's complaints stem from the fact that he never even got the chance to become good at this game. Him jumping around, not knowing what to do, randomly trying out buttons, often also worsens the camera issues the game undeniably has. Because normally, you learn to deal with those issues rather well to the point where they are hardly bothersome anymore. Your playstyle just adapts to the camera system and Brad hasn't reached that point yet.

Furthermore, it'd be nice if Brad used some other weapons from time to time. More pistols, more shotgun (most awesome weapon in the game!) and more sword instead of just punching guys and throwing grenades. He apparently assumes those are the most effective weapons but they really are not ideal in many situations.

It is, it provides just enough challenge to offer some satisfaction for the regular joe but like most games these days normal has been designed to be beaten, not overcome (personally I'm okay with this). DmC is particularly going to feel easy if you always felt a DMC game before was an easy beat on Normal (personally I found them pretty rough - mostly DMC3).

Unrelated note, Brad has gone a while between basically each play so he's practically starting from scratch all over again every time he picks up the pad to play Devil May Cry. It's hard to get better and learn how a game like DMC's mechanics and controls work when you're just playing it once in a blue moon. Anyone complaining about Brad being "really bad" needs to ease up, I think he's doing a decent job considering and I've personally had fun rooting for him during this stuff.

I'm not sure that quite excuses stuff like him refusing to jump on the platforms obviously there to help him avoid the otherwise undodgeable lasers, even when Vinny keeps prodding him to.
