He's way overlevelled for this area now which makes it all the funnier when he dies due to recklessness (and then blames the game).

I love having this to tide me over until Dark Souls 2 comes out.

as someone who read/watch way too much about Soul games' lore any normally sane should have, I'm glad to see Vinny is going down that path. Hope he's doing a AmA about Dark Souls lore podcast : )

I LOVE the turn around time on these. Saw it started when I left for work, then it's up when I get back...yes...

You guys are busting these out faster than I can watch 'em.

Vinny has trotted out the whole "there's only two rolls" thing a bunch of times and it really hurts me emotionally

Okay, took me all day and watching this one and a half times, but that weird loud groan is basically the SAME sound the raincoat killer makes.

On a similar note , the game is less cryptic than Brad might think . I ' m not hating on Brad because I understand he ' s streaming so he probably wants to keep things interesting / paced well , but sometimes stopping to read item descriptions ( Geri ' s stiletto can be nice for magic users ) is a really good idea .

edit : Also , watch Sherlock is totally worth the time investment . Vinny is right , it ' s fantastic !

This must have been late. What is Vinny up to this time?

Edited by kishinfoulux

Who the fuck said Elementary is better then Sherlock? Fucking morons that's who.

But seriously @brad watch Sherlock. Long episodes, but each season is only three episodes long. Vinny is right. It's the best thing going right now.

I couldn't help but snicker when Vinny mentioned TN having school closings due to the weather. In the part of TN I grew up in at least, winter school closings were pretty common.

Brad needs to be more sure of himself he almost had that invader guy, just one more swing would have done it he just had to chase him down as he was running away to heal. You can do it Brad, just rush those guys, people panic when you continuously hit them and drain their stamina bar.

He's gonna eat the spice instead of the grass isn't he...

I don't know why, but after watching the very beginning of this, I just realized that his character reminds me of Drake.

They freak out so much over the Scraping Spear. All you have to do is go to the blacksmith to fix it.

And so the scraping spear is annoying. Don't bellyache all day about it.

Edited by Hagane

You should only put points into strength if a weapon/shield you wanna use requires it, or if you plan to go for a strength build. The stat that matters for armor is endurance because it raises equip load.

I think pretty much everyone, except for Brad of course, saw that one coming.

I don't think he counts not being able to roll as a 3rd "roll". Effectively there are only two roll speeds.

Please keep in mind for future shows that many are trying to avoid Dark Souls II spoilers. I appreciate your effort to cover Dark Souls II in separate videos, but still the coverage has leaked over to this series. I hope that future shows are spoiler free, lest I should have to break my mute button by jamming on it at any hint of a spoiler.

Watching this after watching Vinny's Dark Souls adventure: are people still going to defend Demon's SOuls level design? So far, the levels have been bland and boring as shit. A castle, a prison, a field leading into a castle, a mine. All without any distinguishing features.

Yah, Tower of Latria is more atmospheric than most areas in Dark Souls. What is Dark Souls? A ruined castle, a sewer, caves, a vastly empty and bland castle. The only place in Dark Souls that has any sort of character and cool design would be the final area before Gwyn, Crystal Caverns and maybe the Dukes Archives.

But it's different strokes for different folks as you can tell by now. You prefer your bland castle to this castle, thats all.

I think they need to change the feature name from breaking brad to frustrating vinny. ;)

Brad, make a list of people who tell you that

A) Elementary is anything but garbage and

B) Sherlock can be "hit or miss"

and eliminate those people from your life. They are doing you harm, you don't need them

OMG Shoemaker will you please TIME YOUR ATTACKS!!! Watching you try to melee when the enemy is already halfway thru an attack makes me want to smack the controller out of your hand GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHH!!!!!

I feel like Demons souls has a lot more cheap shots and needs more memorization. Where as Dark Souls is less about cheap, one shot tricks, and more about tricking you into killing your self.

I've been trying to play through NG+ and I'm really finding 5.1 obnoxiously hard. Any tips on getting past those giant dudes with clubs? I'm mainly a magic guy, but I have the Regalia whatever sword too. I hate that level so much...thin platforms and cheap enemies that don't give hardly any souls? Ugghh...

I've played too much Dark Souls and I want to play more of this, but I just don't like it as much.

Posted by Nasar7

@mormonwarrior: You have the northern regalia and you aren't completely wrecking those dudes? Make sure your character tendency is either pure white or pure black.

I still haven't figured out a foolproof way to do that. Defeating PVP black phantoms is the best way to become white, but then you can only encounter them playing online and world tendency evens out when playing online? So then NPC black phantoms won't usually show up. So confusing. It's a system I'm glad they got rid of in Dark Souls.

I didn't like the level design of Latria, at least as far as playing it goes, but the atmosphere and the enemies and such are really cool. That's the only part of Demon's Souls I think holds up in the wake of Dark Souls. The rest....eh. Boring and kinda cheap design. But hey it was a start! Dark Souls also has a crypt, lava ruins, a lost underwater city, a snowy wasteland, several wooded lake areas...not to mention the DLC...it has significantly more variety.

@mormonwarrior: didn't you get those ridiculously OP demon's souls spells from the witch in your first playthrough?

Vinny was getting a little bit manipulating in this installment.

Maybe he thought Brad had it a little bit too easy.

@mormonwarrior: I had problems too. I basically shot them from afar and kind of just prayed that the damage would kill him before he got to me. I'd recommend using fire magic as they're weak against it. Flame Toss was quite useful as I recall.

I'm having problems with False King as a mage in NG+ :(

Good, reasonable advice.

The first two seasons are on NetFlix so it's easy to dive in.

Pick your battles; the Giant Depraved are hardly worth fighting hand-to-hand in any game cycle, for any reason. Use something which makes it more difficult for enemies to see you (Thief's Ring or the Cloak Spell) and do some hit-and-run. There are some places which you can lure them so they can't reach you due to their size, and the hit-and-run strategy really works. If you have a concealing item/spell: they will return to their initial post quicker when you start to flee, and then you can repeat that until they are gone. Wait until they get settled until you begin your next attack. I have always dealt with them using a bow or spells from a distance; their melee attacks do insane damage, and doubly so with their Black Phantom versions.

Also, as someone else said: fire attacks do the most damage to them, but they can also be poisoned. In 5.2 they can mostly be avoided without confrontation.

I think success in Demon's Souls is about being flexible and approaching different situations in different ways; a flexible build (in this particular game) will always be more successful than a hard-line build. I always just try to react in the game as I would react if I were actually in that situation; would you get close to one of those things if you had the choice? I wouldn't.

Basically, to get black character tendency you need to invade and successfully kill a bunch of players until your character tendency is pure black. For white, get summoned into other's games and help them defeat the area boss. It takes a bunch of runs to get pure so find out which side you're already leaning towards and go that route. Character tendency is separate from World tendency and is not affected by online events or what other players are doing. Look up the original demon's souls wikidot for more details.
