This looks drastically different from what I thought I was investing my money into, but it also looks very interesting and potentially awesome! I can't wait to play it.

for some reason I keep buying Doublefine games (well.. they are pimped to hell here GB) and they all suck (well.. other then Psychonauts (hella old!) and costume quest was fun).

note to self: Doublefine makes meh games at best - don't let the massive GB coverage trick u! :)

Yeah, I don't know what's up with that. When I heard the guys mentioning the name during the panel, I went "What ? How come you guys know ?" I was hoping for a backer mail update or something. Anyway, really happy to see this. It is looking really good :'D

I expected the art to be, I dunno, more Double Fine-y? Looks super impressive though; kinda wish I'd backed now.

You can become a "Slacker-Backer" on Double Fine's website for 30 bucks to preorder the game and view all of the documentary/art stuff.

The documentary stuff so far is extremely well made and does something rare which is show creative people like Schafer and the rest of the crew backed into the corner when money and time becomes an issue with making a game... it's been really excellent to watch so far.

It came together very quickly. It seems like they needed it in anticipation of PAX and a Game Informer article that I imagine is in the next issue. Tim posted a forum thread for people to vote and suggest names and within a day or two he announced the pick in that same thread.

Out of curiosity, what were you expecting from a game sold as being like an old school point-and-click adventure?

Agreed. I was initially concerned it might spoil the game for me, but it's been entirely about the process. Even after 8 ~40 minute episodes and all of the side videos and forum posts I don't know anything about the game that wouldn't be covered in standard marketing. I think I knew more about BioShock Infinite back in 2011 than I do about this game now.

Trenched was fun for a while and Stacking, I thought, was as good or better than Costume Quest.

It's weird to know more about an upcoming game than the Giantbomb guys. I get why you didn't back a game when you're in the game reviewing business, but the documentary is really entertaining and well produced. Worth the money just to see that.

Backers have access to the documentaries. There are 8 episodes out now and they are all very informative. It was quite interesting seeing them choose the art style (Bagel Style), how they solved some budgeting issues and such. I watched them all, and I think that they did a pretty good job of not spoiling the game.

Backers were supposed to get emails about it a couple weeks back I believe, I did myself. They put the name to a two-part voting process for backers (and this was probably the better of the names listed).

It all happened pretty fast though, which is why it might have gone unnoticed. Or maybe their email system screwed up; hard to say. I do look forward to the next documentary vid that goes into all this though.

But yea, very excited for the game. If nothing else, the visual style is extremely impressive. Very few games make you feel like you're playing a painted canvas (Okami.. and that's all I can think of).

@louiedog: The gameplay itself is inline with what I expected, the art style is what sort of surprised me. I guess I initially had thoughts of it being visually more in line with things like Monkey Island, but I'm actually really happy to see that they appear to have gone more in the Costume Quest / Psychonauts direction.

@draxyle: Yeah, the voting was frantic. Tim needed a name that day and asked the community what they thought. Broken Age wasn't even the top voted name, "World's Apart" was, so... thank god he didn't listen to the polls.

The documentary is highly recommended. The game is going to be a blast, I can't wait for it.

My only concern is that it may make no money at all for Double Fine, since we the backers will already have it.

That makes sense, but I'm pretty glad they didn't. I feel like I've seen a lot of that in some of the smaller adventure games that have come out in the last couple of years.

The documentary for this has been fascinating, though I have my reservations based on what I saw in those videos. I get the sense the girl's segments are going far rockier in development than the boy's, in the writing department. Basically, when I play this game, it'll be hard to decide if I want to first get the girl's part out of the way.

I am also a backer and I did not receive any email about it. I do not go on the backer forums but I always read the updates and watch the videos. Doesn't really bother me, I don't mind being surprised along with the rest of the world.

Try to be a little less black and white with your opinions. The games don't "suck", you're just not into them. Nothing wrong with that. I'm kind of the same way. I'm not the biggest fan of Doublefine's actual games, but I'm glad they can still exist and put out the games they want in this day and age.

I'm a backer and the last email I got was on March 7, which was the Episode 8 email. There was no mention of a voting name thing.

That aside it looks like the game is very far ahead compared to what was shown in Episode 8. Lots of never before seen stuff on the trailer. It also looks like Sacrifice Girl got a bit of an update from the last time she was seen?

Doublefine sucks? Hah, news to me. "The Cave" is the only game of theirs I can even see being bad, and that's only in terms of Doublefine's normal quality.

Oh well, I'll continue to enjoy the hell out of their outstanding games.
