I'm actually pretty interested in picking this up.

Eh, PMC's are a great storytelling tool for military/espionage stories. If you're going to have dudes that are well trained, and in large numbers, they make for a great army-of-your-enemy tool.

It's one of those modern aspects that military/espionage stories do have to touch on at some point nowadays. I think pretty soon, drones are going to be one of those things that have to be shown or pointed out in modern military/espionage stories too.

I haven't bought a Call of Duty game in a while, but this one is starting to look convincing.

I hope this game is the next step for the COD series like COD 4 was. After the disappointment of Watch Dogs, I'll just have to wait and see.

I read on the Internet that House of Cards was carefully formulated by Netflix based on their user data, i.e. people like Kevin Spacey and people like political dramas.

Naturally it's just being extended to video games. Take House of Cards, mix in a few guns and jetpacks, and baby, you've got a CoD going.

Definitely a better bad guy than "we made up a completely bullshit World War 3 scenario involving communists/ethnic people" that the previous Modern Warfare series depended on.

PMCs are are natural "bad guy" stock because they're amoral, shady companies most the mindset of most civilised people. They operate with zero transparency and little to no oversight; they hire operators with questionable backgrounds, and they are at their most basic level war profiteers.

Good point, I liked Makarov as a villain, but other than that... ehhh, not great in Modern Warfare.

And you are pretty much on point about PMCs, so if we get some good Kevin Spacey being all "I got the power so fuck your politics!" I can get on board with that.

I don't think there's ever been a realistic depiction of PMCs in games (or TV or film, really.)

I've got to admit that when I saw the first trailer I kind of rolled my eyes a bit like "oh, this again.. Great..." but honestly this new trailer has me intrigued. If they do it right, this game could be really awesome. Also, I haven't seriously played a Call of Duty game since Black Ops, so I'm kind of interested in what they have in store gameplay-wise. I hope it's different enough to be interesting, but at the same time keep that Call of Duty feel.

I'm looking forward to being disappointed by this game's multiplayer. I'm sure the campaign will be okay in a "follow me around until you need to shoot through a huge wave of dumb AI" sort of way though.

Looks cool, actually might play this multiplayer again.

Expectations of the CoD campaign:

A.I. Fellow Warrior: "Hey, shoot here, here" ... "Hey, shoot here, here" ... "Hey, shoot here, here" ... "Hey, shoot here, here" ... "Hey, shoot here, here"

A.I. Fellow Warrior: "Well done, now let me block your pathway to give you some exposition"

PMCs are no more or less evil than any other military organization, government or not.

I don't know, man. Blackwater firing into a crowd in Baghdad and killing 20 civilians is pretty messed up. Not saying actual military haven't done terrible things but they're typically thought to be kept more in check.

Game looks good, but... I find it's funny how PMCs are "evil" and now the go-to villain for so many franchises these days. In the vast majority of these companies 95% of these guys just stand around guarding shit, the other 5% drive them there and back.

Within national militaries, because they're held "accountable," there's a much bigger incentive to hide or cover up anything incriminating if possible. If they can't, then they can spin doctor it so that something or someone else gets blamed.

But whatever, Cold War's over and Russia's on our side now right guys?

I haven't played a Call of Duty game since Black Ops 1, but this is looking really interesting. I might end up playing this one.
