Hmmm.. looks almost the same... and 90% of the trailer were the same maps everyone has played since day one. I sure hope there is more to justify a new game than just a facelift.

A lot of people are saying that you can hook up a K+M to a PS3 and indeed you can. But how many PS3 players are realisticly going to plug in a K+M to the PS3's in their living rooms? I have a PS3 and find it hard to believe that any significant amout of player will do that.
i don't know about significant numbers but the ones that count already have a PS3 on a PC desk hooked to a dedicated monitor.

"The ones that count" ?

Who are those?

OH MY GOD YOU COULD NOT BE MORE WRONG lmao. I have my ps3 on a 480i sd television (it's actually very nice for an sd tele, flat screen and such.) but even with that the thing looks like complete trash compared to my xbox right next to it in 1080p, TRASH. I mean my friends told me LA Noire was a great looking game but I had no idea what they were talking about till I put it on my big screen.

Oh, so you're one of those people.

A what? A sane person? 1.6 is clearly superior, there is a reason 1.6 is the default tournament version.

If by "clearly superior" you mean "has a bunch of minor differences to CS:S that only obsessives care about". Why in the hell would I give a crap what version tournament players use? Most tournament players deliberately play the least fun, most stale version of any game they can find. Those people don't have fun, because they're to wrapped up in the "science of the game". They want to win at all costs, even if it means doing the most boring, tedious stuff imaginable. Even though a real measure of skill would be to adapt.

I own all versions of Counter-Strike released to date. Been playing since before Source was released. I play Source primarily, and have since it was released. Grenade physics, hit boxes, all of that stuff is super, super, super insignificant. I don't give a crap about tournaments or tournament players, and I still have fun. Good enough for me.

Counter Strike isn't a military shooter in the traditional sense, yes you play as a soldier or a terrorist and fire guns, but the way you play the game is totally different when compared to your Call of Duty's of the world.

There is no "next engine". Source is not like Unreal where it goes through numbered iterations every few years. It's completely modular. The current version of source is gorgeous and infinitely more advanced than the version that shipped with HL2. In singleplayer games (Portal 2), Source looks absolutely fantastic and definitely on par with everything else coming out. Perhaps CS GO's less impressive visuals are because it's a competition game like Starcraft II.

This is totally true. Let's keep in mind that Portal 2 and Vampire: the Masquerade - Bloodlines are both games developed in the Source engine. That should tell you everything you need to know about the upgradeability of the engine.

This. I was about to say that I've been playing CS in higher resolutions than HD (720p) for years. I'm playing CS:S in 1920x1080 these days.

Oh, consoles. I like you, but you make it so hard sometimes...

@Mentalnova: It's really not that expensive for any of the stuff at all. The money is hardly much of a balancing factor, all of the guns kill people quickly if you know what you're doing.

Yeah, I cringed a bit at that too. PC gaming in the basic definition of HD (as a resolution above 1,280×720) has been possible for over 15 years already, and even 10 years ago texture resolutions way above the standards on HD consoles were common. Many people generally include shaders like bloom, HDR post-processing and camera focus effects in their definition of HD, which certainly is a significant difference between games pre- and post-2005/06 or so, but still, many games today don't use either of those while still using HD resolution and thus are clearly in HD, while the previous generation and Nintendo Wii could do most of that in sub-HD resolutions.

Oh good, so I wasn't the only one to think this when I saw the headline.

CS has the worst balance, ever. Good players keep their guns and get cash for better guns and armor, while dead players have to rebuy everything.

For those who are bitching about source engine wtf are you talking about? TF2 runs on source and it's one of the best looking games on the market still this many years on. Is it because you're running on a console or something and need your settings crippled?

While TF2 may be a very impressive game in the artistic visual design aesthetic, so far as raw technical prowess, saying it's "one of the best looking games on the market" is a pretty huge exaggeration.

It's just as if Bethesda were to release Skyrim on simply a modified Gamebyro engine, like New Vegas or Fallout 3, sure, it would work, and sure, it would probably look all right, but that engine has become dated and somewhat janky over the years. Furthermore, how much has your game improved? Why would I spend money to buy this new product when I already have the tried and true? If it's just a graphics update, on the engine that fuels the far less popular version of the game, what justifies spending my money on it?

Well, the fundamental difference is that GameBryo is so fucked it's not worth ever seeing again.  Source is, by contrast, a damned solid engine that has fueled some of the greatest games the company has ever produced.

Let's be honest, here, the vocal minority are going to reject this game wholesale because it's not 1.6 beta on GoldSrc.  Valve's doing the right thing by ignoring these fuckers.

It's funny i saw this at PAX and i thought it looked no different to original CS. Watching the trailer i see it's actually a pretty huge leap between the versions. Guess your memory of a game just updates with time if you don't play it long enough.
