Nice. This looks like a lot of fun. I like the aesthetic.

Local multiplayer!

Early access is bifurcating launch-day-excitement.

SWEET JEBUS that's some great sound design.

Gonna buy this despite Early Access. Crawl is that good.

Posted by wedapeople

This is honestly one of the best trailers I've seen in a while. Very intriguing.

Posted by 2HeadedNinja

I would love to buy this, but tbh, no online multiplayer is a dealbreaker for me.

Posted by lockonandfire

The trailers for this have been utterly phenomenal.

Posted by D_W

Man I can't wait to watch the guys play through this again. Hopefully this friday. I wish I knew more people locally to play these sorts of games with.

Posted by Edmundus

What a great trailer. I hope there are more bosses to come though, the one seen so far didn't seem much of a challenge.

Posted by PsychoPenguin

Wow that's a great trailer. :O Really makes me want to round up 3 other people and play some of this.

Posted by fisk0

Showed up on GOG's "coming soon" list today too. I wonder if this'll be the first early access game on GOG, or if "soon" means "when the game gets out of early access".

Posted by PolyesterPimp

i wish i had 3 other people to play this with... Trailer alone was enough to make me jizz my pants. ONLINE MULTIPLAYER PLEASE **forever alone**

Posted by Devise22

Can tell some on here can't or don't watch UPF. Good trailer but we've seen the guys play through this a couple times now on preimum streams. Obviously at a different stage of development, would be nice to see it again now that they've added a bunch of things.

Posted by Eunoian

@devise22: Can you tell me which UPF or which ones? Thanks!

Posted by Throat

This trailer is fantastic.

Superb VO but I was hoping it would have online multiplayer. Local co-op is sort of useless to me.. on this orbital space station I live on.

Posted by Disemboweler

Trailer is pretty neat, but I'm SO tired of the retro-pixel graphics laziness that is rampant in indie games ATM. You can barely tell WTF is going on in the clips!

Posted by tenrealm

@disemboweler: you can barely tell "WTF is going on", but the rest of us non-blind people can see just fine. Just because the aesthetic is not to your taste doesn't mean it's lazy.

Edited by ripelivejam

@2headedninja: do you really want to play this with a bunch of faceless randoms? i could understand not being able to get your friends together in one place, but it's just not the same as a group in one room screaming at and trash talking one another. That's where the appeal lies and i don't know why people want these new couch coop/competitive games to be something they're not.

Posted by nophilip

This is the one game I'm willing to break my "no early access" rule for. The concept is just too perfect.

Posted by Disemboweler

@tenrealm: I was obviously exaggerating, but you can't tell me that the retro-pixel graphics thing isn't usually due to lack of artistic talent on a given dev team a this point... otherwise we'd be seeing it used on higher-budget games as an "aesthetic choice" too all the friggin' time these days, which we're not, because it was novel for a while but is just shitty at this point.

Posted by Sydlanel

This trully looks most fantastic.. ever since the first announcements.. very impressive... I don't quite understand the "jagged compression pixel noise"aesthetic that they've used.. the style seems so strong and defined that that part seems kind of unnecessary..

in any case.. accessing early.. for sure.

Nobody here has said "faceless randoms in matchmaking." My friends and I are all out of college and have moved across the country for jobs, so local multiplayer only does literally nothing for me. If I want to play multiplayer games with friends, it has to be online. Yelling and drinking on Mumble is no different than being in the same place for us, and it's the only way we can play games together anymore. Everyone's obsession and insistence with 'THIS GAME IS MEANT TO BE PLAYED WITH FRIENDS THAT'S WHY IT'S LOCAL ONLY' is misguided; there's no reason it can't be both. You eliminate half your audience (probably over half, considering online would require a purchase from each player) by refusing to include online multiplayer.

That severe narration reminds me of the old Dante's Inferno trailers. Whatever else you might think about that game, that game had some great trailers. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SdqY2a9iRXw

Too many pixels.

Posted by Mr_Creeper

Sick trailer. Been looking forward to this for a little bit now so I might actually get in on that Early Access.

Posted by Smorlock

@disemboweler: What? You're crazy. Yes, pixel graphics can be used if you have no art skills, but this instance, and most games that use it, are not that.

This is very deliberate, intentional, designed art that is not as easy to produce as you obviously think it looks. Pixel art is a style built upon limitations so it can easily be reduced to laziness but this is not the case here.

I seriously don't believe that most implementations of pixel art are just because the developers lack "artistic talent", which is a pretty ridiculous accusation in the first place.

Still looks fantastic. Still probably never going to play it. I get that local multiplayer is the push, but that's just not feasible for me. As others have said, why can't it also have online? Other than it would obviously be a whole heap of extra work in a way the game hasn't been designed, of course. It's not a trivial thing to add.

Posted by ArbitraryWater

I played some of this with friends and, yeah, it's pretty great. Clearly needs some more content though.

Posted by Chet_Rippo

@skuupin: Theyve stated it isnt out of the question, just not at release

If only indie developers had the resources that bigger developers had with online modes. If there was a more streamlined piece of tech that can do most of the work. It could be feasible but I can see why they don't want to promise anything.

Yuuuup. I'm tempted to buy it now and hope they patch in online play down the line but that seems overly optimistic.

This game is awesome! I don't care about online, since I have 3 brothers, couch coop is perfect for us :) I really hope they add more bosses and stuff!

There have been countless indie games with online modes. I'm not asking for matchmaking (which is the hard part), I'm asking for 'invite this friend from my Steam friends list to a private session.' I was doing direct network connections for games in Java in high school computer science. Obviously any feature takes time and money, but adding a feature that will potentially more than double your audience seems like a no-brainer.

Not sure if the game can live up to that videogasm, but It sure does make me want it to!

Free early access ftw!
