Great list & cool way to explain it on camera, thanks David!

That ending might be the cutest thing ever. Great to see a different list, I love listening to Jaffe talk.

While people are obsessing too much over story and visuals to remember the essence of this entertainment medium, this man passionately seeks good interactivity, because he loves to play. This industry is so misrepresented today with the misled focus on stories and characters and endings, it's like we've created our own video game Sodom and Gomorrah and forgotten the name of God (in this case God = interactivity and gameplay). I'm not religious I'm creating an analogy.

I believe the video game medium should be officially split into the two sub-genres of interactive movies and actual video games before it's too late. If that ever happens, I wonder video game journalists would cover which of those two. Hint: The Journey and The Walking Dead types.

yES!

haha great video, I laughed so hard at the end. Keep it up Jaffe.

Jaffe is a great personality. He needs to be on the podcast more!

I think games are at their best when narratives are complemented by the gameplay and vice versa, if we were to split it up into two different categories it would be like hamstringing the whole medium. Why can't we have both, together or separate depending on what the game is trying to do.

Yeah, I think there's room for both in the medium, though I wish the interactivity part should be appreciated and put forward more, in the past decade and a half, the idea that movies are the closest relative to video games, and that games should be more like movies has been a bit too dominant. The "split" isn't something recent though, it's almost as old as the medium itself, at leat dating back to when it was popularized in arcades and mainframe computers in the 70's - interactive fiction like Colossal Cave Adventure versus pure gameplay like Breakout or Pong, and games incorporating both like The Oregon Trail.

I like indie games as much as the next guy,.. but at E3 - just watching David stare down that hippy on the live bomb cast was classic. That dude was just mentally diluted.

That put David in my forever awesome category.

Where can i find that?

Posted by Scotto

Here's hoping Jaffe didn't hear Patrick calling his last game "dogshit" during the award deliberations, or the 2013 E3 live shows could be fun, assuming he makes an appearance. We might see how fast someone can do the moonwalk on one of their public statements.

Hippy? That was Max Temkin, one of the co-creators of Cards Against Humanity, and another guy who submitted a list this year.

And yes, I also thought it was funny that Jaffe wasn't having any of his "higher-level" indie shit.

Yeah, as much as I like Max and the stuff he's created, he does come across as a bit of a hipster in terms of video games. I think he had a line somewhere on that podcast about how 'indie games are so inspiring because of the people working hard on them, and putting there soul into them' or some nonsense like that, and Jaffe said something to the effect of, 'Yeah, so do I, and I work on triple-A games'.

But to his list, I WHOLEHEARTEDLY agree with Jaffe's opinions on Thirty Flights of Loving.

Appreciate that David always as a different perspective of the gaming industry and his list didn't disappoint, always a fascinating dude to listen to.

@Video_Game_King: "Pop the bubbly" means "open the champagne bottle", something that is normally done on New Years Eve.

Hahahaha! Great ending. :)

David Jaffe continues to be the man.

Jaffe is a nut and I have so much respect for him. Wish him the best with his new studio.

I AM SEVEN!

(should become the title of Jaffe's new game)

It's never not interesting to listen to Jaffe. Also great ending =)

Y'know I don't think I've ever really played much of a David Jaffe or Paul Barnett game, but I absolutely adore hearing their thoughts on game design.

Jaffe is so *rubs nose* animated and *cough* erratic when he *hand gesture* speaks. *stares away from camera* I love it.

Jaffe's always got something interesting to say. Cool list.

The Jaff.

Posted by Krabonq

I'm sorry, but Thirty flights of loving is a fucking scam and a rip-off.

Posted by Swoxx

Jaffe is really great at talking about games. It actually makes me wish he was a game critic instead of developer. I think he'd make a good fit into the GB family.

Posted by Mister_V

For some reason he reminds me of Woody Allen In this video.

I really love these Jar Time with Jaffe videos

Posted by Spaceyoghurt

Jaffe is a cool dude. Also, great ending to the video. :)

Interesting list, nice to hear from Jaffe. I haven't been 7 for way too long.

Thanks David! This was awesome and really different than most other top 10s

need more of you on the site

much love

Haha, what a cute ending. Always a pleasure to see David Jaffe talk about things, I love his passion.

Interesting list. I'm tempted to go check out 30 Flights now.

Thanks for sharing, David, and that ending was--I don't use this lightly--adorable.

Yeah, I felt pretty bad about that, especially after watching this video.

Video isn't working right for me. Nevermind, switched to Youtube and it started working.

Anyway, I've found most people who absolutely adore the Halo MP are those who didn't like any of the previous mp...which internally proves my point. If you need helps and advantages to be good in the mp then...yeah.

Hell yeh Jaffe!!

And I loved the new Twisted Metal. It's my favortie multiplayer experience on the PS3....when it works. It's just a shame that the truly terrible network issues kept it down so much.

Can't wait to see what comes from you next. Thanks for the list, awesome stuff.

Jaffe always has great insights and is not afraid to share them. Great list. Wonder what he thinks about Frog Fractions since he brought up Lemonade Stand.

Posted by Toxin066

This was one of the most thought provoking top 10 lists. I had to look up a lot of those games.

And that ending was adorable.

Posted by Linkster7

I could listen to Jaffe all day long

Posted by Maajin

Let's all plot to destroy his new studio so that Giant Bomb can hire him and we can have some Jar Time With Jaffe more often.

Posted by Ronald

Very cool list of games that are a little less obvious. The crazy part of 30 Flights of Loving is that it was a Kickstarter reward for people who backed the Idle Thumbs Podcast Kickstarter.

Posted by I_am_Lono

What a truly delightful man. This was an absolute pleasure to watch and a list of obscure games I may otherwise never have heard was very refreshing.

Posted by TurboMan

I'm surprised Jaffe's kid didn't walk and just started shouting curse words at the top of her lungs.

haha, great video.
