As a pretty huge fan of the series I can say I don't mind where they seem to be going with the design. More Western, less anime fiesta with white haired people everywhere.

Still not a fan of the way this game looks, though. As I said in another thread, this looks like they're trying to turn Devil May Cry into a Tim Burtom weird-for-the-sake-of-weird fever dream. Regardless of the changes made to the actual gameplay, the changes made to the character of Dante and the general aesthetic take things too far from what Devil May Cry was. They might as well just change both the game's name as well as Dante's and claim it's something completely different at this point, because that's the vibe I'm getting.

In short: No, sir, I don't like it.

I hope that they cut out the "getting dressed while flying through a trailer" bit. While kind of cool, it just seems excessive to me. I will say that the combat looks really fluid and I'm interested in this. Also, I don't know if it's just because I've seen it so often or they changed something, but Dante's character design looks a lot better than when it was first shown.

@Hailinel: I'm with you on that, if they didn't name this game DMC, I would be a little bit less septic about it.

I liked the level design of the fair to be honest, the setting seems interesting, it's just what they are doing to the concept of what Dante must be that feels wrong to me.

Whoa! Okay, color me interested. I picked up DMC4 and did not care for it at all but this actually looks like an interesting title.

Too bad I don't buy my clothes at Hot Topic or I might've liked this kind of game. Also, nice Naked Gun homage.

It looks kind of cool, but I still don't fully understand the character redesign. What exactly was wrong with the old Dante? Is brown hair supposed to connect me to the character more? I'm not really against it, I just don't understand the reasoning behind it.

Well at least from what I gather this game has nothing to do with the others, still have no interest to play it there is just something I don't like about it.

Familiar mechanics if you played Heavenly Sword, maybe.

I can't wait to fight up to two enemies at once, just like in this trailer.

the reason the character changed is because they have completely rebooted the series and starting from scratch so this is Ninja theory's design for Dante it's as if the old DMC games didn't exist so why would you have the old character design for a reboot that makes no sense, this this the problem the fans of the previous DMC games cant get into their heads or just don't want to except.

...Why WOULDN'T you use the old character design? How does any of what you said make any more sense? What the hell defines a reboot, anyway? Completely redesigning everything? Retconning everything? Making a completely different series while riding on the name of the old one?

...Why WOULDN'T you use the old character design? How does any of what you said make any more sense? What the hell defines a reboot, anyway? Completely redesigning everything? Retconning everything? Making a completely different series while riding on the name of the old one?

Not really. A reboot is making a fresh start in an old universe. So keeping the exact same character isn't much of a reboot, it'd just be stuck in some weird half sequel limbo that wouldn't make much sense from a cannon point of view.

Looks......ok. As a huge DMC fan il play it, but the HD collection is more worth your time

This looks...realllllly bad. Like. Really really bad.

Having been one of the biggest naysayers to this reboot, I'll have to admit this does look pretty good. The graphical style is a definite keep, and the combat looks about as fast and free flowing as DMC has been in the past. Having said that, the new Dante still has that "let's make him cool and edgy" design by committee feel to him, without any irony to him. Which makes him seem a bit... lame.

@Drakoji: -_-.....last time I checked sexual deviant means any deviation from the norms of what is considered normal sexual behavior. Meaning that it can range anywhere from pedophilia, Necrophilia, cross-dressing, domination, even getting off to watching someone undressing, and of course Homosexuality.

Anything that is considered abnormal in sex is considered a sexual deviation(like a Ménage à trois).....it can be simple or server. Not sure where this notion that it immediately means sexual orientation came from....and its not just you.

Really liked how he changed clothes while flying through the air. That looks pretty much like what Shimomura was doing with the cinematics in DMC 3, 4 and Bayonetta in terms of stupid great action. I sort of wish they went the other way, though. If they aren't gonna top the insanity in Bayonetta, I feel like going down to earth would be more fitting.

This seems like little step forward, anyway. DMC4 felt so similar to past games I felt like it was a generation behind.

Nevermind my own opinions on the direction they have gone with the design, I'd like to ask:
 
Who is this for?  What demographic do they hope to target by this change?  Is this just difference for the sake of difference?  All I'm seeing here is a conscious effort to make an recognizable character less so.  Ideally if you're going to do an alternate reality style reimagining of an IP, there should be clear reasons for the new direction.   I don't see anything here beyond a marketing team telling design to "make it look different". 

So much for doing their own thing - between this and the gameplay videos, it's quite clear they're aping as many superficial aspects of the earlier titles as they can. Just without the charm or depth.

Sad that both Devil May Cry and Ninja Gaiden are falling from grace in the same year.
