Devil May Cry Exits Limbo

This is actually looking better than I expected. Not a huge fan of DMC but I remember thinking ''what the hell?'' when they first announced the reboot. As long as the gameplay stays good I'm in.

You know what? I don't dislike this. I wonder if this will end up more Fallout 3 or Dragon Age 2. (Success despite changes, or failure because of massive changes).

Some people also seem to be forgetting how insanely cheesy the previous games were. There's nothing in this video that is out of place for the franchise.

When you slam enemies in DMC4, Nero says "oh SLAM DUNK!!!".

I'm sorry but that was pretty fucking awesome, I just hope it doesn't have stupid jumping puzzles.

That naked flying stuff with the baseball bat covering his ding dong was pretty freaking funny even if it's been done before, still funny.

I remember the thing about DMC games was playing it to see crazy cutscenes.

I loved the first 3 DMC games (2 less so) and never picked up 4 but this game looks pretty great. I was really hesitant about the new look and some of the older trailers looked rough but it looks like Ninja Theory managed to make a DMC game their own and distinguish it from the other DMCs.

I was very hesitant before because I love 1, 3 and 4. I hated this when I first saw this. This video might have changed my mind . The music was shitty though. I might check it out.

Why the hate? I really dig where they are going!

I assume many of the changes to his look and sword will be explained through the game's story. All of the previous DMC games have shown a much older Dante. From my understanding, even the one from DMC3 was much older than he acted/looked, considering he is part demon. This seems to be the same Dante we've come to know with the same style of game with a slightly different coat of paint. His demon form gives him white hair, and I assume by the end of the game he will be stuck in that form with his iconic sword. Looks like an even further origin story from before DMC3.

Looks better than anything else they have shown so far for the game. If it plays at least as well as DMC4 or Bayonetta, has good variety in enemies & weapons, solid level design, and good bosses & general challenge...I guess the lame not funny Dante could slide.

you do know that this is a complete reboot? that has nothing to do with the other DMC games.

As always, Ninja Theory got cool ideas.

I've played this game (I know I'm breaking an NDA but whatever) and it's pretty good. I don't know how the combat will hold up over a longer stretch of time but it felt pretty good and the new Dante made a really strong impression.

As usual, Ninja Theory seems to be making a really interesting game. Whether or not I'll actually want to play this one remains to be seen though, because I've never been a huge fan of the combat in DMC

It's funny - I just saw a trailer for Devil May Cry but I didn't see any Devil May Cry in it.

I see they're trying to appeal to the teenagers now.

Isn't the purpose of a reboot to bring something up to date for a new audience, etc. This entire series is barely over a decade old, and the last game came out within recent memory on the same generation of consoles, with first print run copies still occasionally popping up in retail stores. Rebooting it now just seems weird...

Love the series, and I beat DMC 4 six times. Big fan of Ninja Theory as well.

@Drakoji: At the end the guy says, "just doing God's work." It makes complete sense coming from someone like that. Plus it's Dante. Dude will have sex with anything. Seems fitting.

Looks great. I'm a big fan of Ninja Theory -- specifically their writing and acting, which I would rank as the best in the business. Excited to see that matched with something they've been given a lot of time with to work on mechanics, with DMC vets guiding development. And the word from Captivate is overwhelmingly positive.

Folks clinging to cheesy-nineties-cartoon-baditude Dante with their broadly homo-, emo-, vampo-phobic declarations... well, enjoy your complaining, I guess. Hope it keeps you warm, or something.

Also stumbled across a great interview with Tameem at CVG. Alex Garland is story supervisor, which is pretty rad.

How did I know that of all the trailers posted in the last hour or so, THIS would have vastly more comments than the others?

Largely because past DMC games seemed dumb as fuck, so I'm totally fine if they mess around with the characters, setting, and tone.

I don't want to encourage you, but I agree that everyone is overreacting. The original design of Dante really wasn't worth writing home about. Visually, he was a generic Japanese badass protagonist. I don't know why people are so attached to that particular look.

I'll miss old Dante...

But this was actually awesome!!!

If the crazy ass gameplay is there, i think we have a winner.

If not, well, here's hoping for Bayonetta 2!!!

Still need to see what this game is really going to be like and how it plays before any decisions are made, but it looks kind of cool so far.

So he's basically goin' commando throughout this game... Keep'n it classy I see.

The world looks awesome, the story seems interesting, and Dante, despite being an  improvement over that fist reveal, still looks lame and boring but whatever. The real problem here is that Ninja Theory has continued to fail to convey to me why I should care about their clunky and rigid looking combat.

A reboot is not defined by any strict set of rules, and "change the main character because 'it's a reboot'" wouldn't be one of them even if it was. That's ludicrous.

At least the gameplay is looking solid, and the new Dante is looking slightly less lame.

Not in comparison to the original. In comparison to the original he's still a huge buttmuncher.

It's sad that I have to talk about these two versions of Dante like they're different characters. I still just cannot support his character redesign at all. And the sad part is with the way the combat's going, if they would've just stuck with the classic design, or modernly altered the classic design a bit, this game would have awesome written all over it.

I think the Japanese have a skewered view of what we think a "cool" character is.

To be fair, I hadn't read your original post AND I didn't even see that the "Haters Gonna Hate" image was directed at you. I probably still would've reacted the same way, but not as any kind of sleight (or is it "slight" in this context?) to you personally. So I apologize for that. Most people aren't so articulate when they hate on this game, but you and I have gone round and round a couple of times and while I don't agree with you mostly, I dig your style. So how about we chalk this one up to bad communication, dust off our hands, and walk in opposite directions?

Jeff was right, this game looks cool as shit.

I like it, it's like what if dmc wasnt a crazy anime game but instead a crazy hardcore punk (ish) game

So far, I am on board for this.

Ninja theory is the only reason I have any hope for this game...
