Devil May Cry Gets Kinda Sorta Political in This Latest Trailer

Dialogue at the end was weird since that was clearly a different voice actor, plus the music didn't mesh all that well with what was happening. Still, it's an OK trailer.

This looks an astounding amount like Prototype.

New Dante sucks. I hate that he doesn't have white hair so therefore it's the worst game ever.

Game looks soooooo good. Loved the demo; can't wait for the full game. :D

Never cared for the whole series and the demo didn't change that fact.

Man, such a step down in the action choreography in these cutscenes. Although I guess being a step down from the earlier games seems to the whole purpose of DmC at this point.

Man, Reuben Langdon was so much better than this guy, probably my biggest bummer with changing the character so much. That said, the demo really turned me around on this game, though this may be one of the first games that I wait for reviews on. Also have to decide if I get it on PS3 or PC.

Also, I'm not sure whats worse by now. Complaining about the new look of Dante or "complaining" about the new look of Dante in a really sarcastic way to show how much you don't care. Or maybe it's what I'm doing right now.....damn

I'm really curious about it. It feels like a super hokey self-insert-so-edgy-fuck-you-mom-and-dad teenage story, but I'd be very pleasantly surprised if there was some kind of big twist that goes against that notion.

I guess I'll have to check it out to find out. Gonna give the demo a go tonight to see if it might be something to pick up for the gameplay.

After Heavenly Sword and my favorite game story of all time (Enslaved), I will buy ANYTHING that Ninja Theory makes, even if I've never been a real fan of the DmC series. Ninja Theory just gets how to make great games

DMC4 is still the best action game of this console generation. DmC is basically an iteration on Heavenly Sword. There is no doubt in my mind DmC is shaping up worse than its predecessor.

This game's story looks god awful. Let's hope the combat is at least up to snuff, only reason to play these games anyway.

DMC has never had good stories but it knew that and just acting silly instead. This just looks like some edgy 16 year old read something on Occupy, watched They Live and then wrote a script. The combat is also an insult to the older games

Its a constantly changing series, and its pretty widely accepted that DMC 3 and 4 are accepted as the best games in terms of gameplay while both having changes to the core of the game that make it generally better for the entire series. Its also funny that you mention that DMC4 killed old Dante's personality, what do you think DmC is doing?

Really? Honestly I find it a bit pretentious, and a little predictable. DMC wasn't so much about character and story, it was really only a vehicle to get characters to be awesome in different situations. It was unremarkable and for the most part, enjoyable for how light and non-serious it was. Now that this game is a lot more story driven and trying to be about narrative, its still painfully unremarkable, and its taking itself too seriously on top of not really having the best parallels to draw.

They're going all in on the EDGY REBEL persona, but I think it mostly works and I like it.

I always planned for the game to be jam-packed with action, thus I went with the concept of a “gritty badass show-off.” (Actually, I just thought of the ‘gritty badass show-off’ bit right now…) I had been thinking of making a lead character in that vain for a while, but within what was thematically a horror game, it didn’t seem like something I could pull off. Yet, in Devil May Cry the theme is Stylish Action, so I had free rein to put my own spin on the lead character (and the game) as I saw fit.

Oh yeah… Just to add another descriptor to how I perceive Dante… He is a character that you would want to go out drinking with. Basically, he isn’t just a show-off to be ‘cool’. He is the kind of guy that will pull some ridiculous, mischievous joke and that will endear you to him. I wanted to make him feel familiar to people.

I got the inspiration for Dante from a Japanese comic book character called "Cobra". He never fears his enemies and always looks perfectly confident. Even in times of danger, he talks with lots of irony and a provoking look. I liked this character very much and thought he would be most suitable for a character, which would fight with demons.I gave Dante a cloak to make his intense action look even more colourful. The reason why his costume is red is that it is a heroic colour - in Japan, red is traditional colour for a hero. The other reason is that since Leon from RE2 was dressed in blue, I wanted try the opposite colour this time. Although Dante is a hero, I didn't want to give him an extreme, over the top, outfit as you often see in some Japanese comic books featuring heroic characters. We tried to come up with a design that was a good compromise between the realistic and the heroic.

Dante was never meant to embody any particular pop-culture definition of badass or cool. He presented his style entirely within the context of his own universe--the roguish showoff in a gothic fun house. He was meant to be appealing to anybody: Japanese or American, adult, 80s kid or 90s kid, whoever. Ninja Theory doesn't understand this at all and are spitting on that entire philosophy, blatantly trying to make Dante "get with the times."

Do you see how these statements contradict each other? Kamiya made Dante to not be about culture or being cool. Anoniades wants to make Dante into a London Punk Rocker (notice the Union Jack on new Dante's jacket?). Also, the new Dante looked disturbing similar to a 20-years younger Antoniades for a long while:

On top of all of this grating fundamental design philosophy, Tameem's self-insert is abrasive and obnoxious. There's a lot more reason to hate the new Dante's character than just his hairstyle.

As someone who never got into DMC, what I've seen and read from this game it sounds like this could be fun as well as new life this franchise needed.

Also, did the voice actor change from the last trailer they showed?...It's been a while.

Whine, whine, whine. I played the demo and like punk rocker Dante. People need to get over it having the same name and treat it like a new game. Take a game for what it is, not what title they decide to slap on it.

So now it counts as political commentary to make whoever is currently unpopular a demon in a video game? We need better video game writers, and we need them now.

I want to play devil's advocate and defend this game just to stay on the bright side but, c'mon, the lead designer put his face on the main character at one point. If you've read any of the developer's responses to people on Twitter, Facebook, 4chan, etc, it's bordering on WarZ arrogance how they just shut down the fan complaints with ridicule. So it's hard to defend DmC or Ninja Theory, also a terrible name. Let's face it, they took the camp and pomp out of the series and replaced it with edgy hXc SO BADASS cliches, use #Occupy as their primary means of progressing the story and have you fighting "the man" because that's hip, throw around vulgarity without even attempting to make it sound cool because they feel it's enough, and that's not even to talk about the gameplay. Has no one here seen that video of the guy getting SSS in seconds or the "my planet needs me" .gif? It's broken, just move on.

huh, first time seeing the prerendered since the first teaser.

The political angel is wildly amusing considering how cold the DMC universe always was. The closest we had to a world was part 4 and all it was was a cult. Showing a universe ripe for parody like Robocop is more interesting then just game that could have been Resident Evil spin off series.

No matter how many times he says it, he ain't Dante.

This trailer was a lot better than the others because there's was only three lines of dialogue. I kind of like the art-design in the new DMC, but almost all of the writing is just such fucking horseshit, sophomoric analogues for real life events and cursing thrown around left and right in an embarrassing juvenile manner. Never played a DMC before, but I still have no interest in new Dante.

There are going to be so many people who'll buy this purely due to the on-blast hate it's getting. I call it the Fez Syndrome.
