@Eeptog: To be fair brad doesn't make it too exciting but it's also on the easiest difficulty and early on. It gets pretty awesome.

cool video, the game looks alright. I like the mood.

I wish it had an offline mode tho - I have zero interest in the auction houses. It seems like killing offline single player and peer-to-peer multiplayer is a high price to pay for auction houses.

Why does Ryan pause and say Die-ablo slowly every time you should casually say Dee-oblo in a sentence?

And why does Brad keep yelling??

Picked this up yesterday and played for almost 30 mins before I got error 3007. Oh and I got a cool error during install about a corrupt MPQ file.

It is pretty fun when it works though.

Patrick's crazy. Sitting down and flipping through books is one of the best things to do in an rpg. Take the Elder Scrolls. I LOVED reading the notes and books in Morrowind and Skyrim. While the little blurbs in this are cool and all, you just can't get as much info in a quick voice-over as a book.

Books and letters and such are so much more immersive than a random voice. Take Skyrim. I'm given a quest, and can stop and read a letter about it any time on the way, or I'm curious about some faction, I can go look it up whenever. The very best dungeons in that game were the ones that had journal pages scattered about that you could find, telling you what happened there.

I'm always disappointed when I can't read the books. Like in Risen, when you find a book, your guy reads it and just goes "I've learned something new". Lame. Maybe he learned something, but I, the player, have not.

Why does Patrick keep talking about "the interesting benefits" of being forced to be online? There are none. All of those benefits are for multiplayer, while any negatives affect me even in single player. That's the whole problem. If I'm playing alone, by myself, splitting loot in multiplayer is not an interesting benefit to outweigh the lag I'm experiencing. Because, you know, I'm not playing multiplayer.

A simple offline mode would solve it, too. Even if you believe the silly excuse that it's to "prevent cheating", rather than being the DRM it is, simply make it so offline characters can't go online, and let everyone know that ahead of time.

Sweet. I just tried playing by myself again and I got stuck into a queue, then when I finally could play by myself it disconnected and I got an error message. So I restart and go to log in then I get thrown into another queue, get into my own singleplayer game, and dropped again.

I'm done. There is absolutely no redeeming reason why the game was developed like this. There's no benefit either. I don't care how smooth the gameplay is or how fun it is. I'm done.

If there's another game out there that follows this type of business model and decision I'll make sure to avoid it. And to be quite frank if Blizzard does this again with their games, be it the Starcraft expansions or Warcraft 4 or anything else, I'll never buy another game from them again. People always say that the Activision merger didn't influence them, but I can see it right here. This has the stench of them all over it, and if you don't think that they have to answer to the same share holders and therefore have to alter their business strategies you're out of your goddamn mind.

So now I have a game disc that is essentially a drink coaster, a little writing pad, and an instruction book that I can read while taking a shit... all for the low low price of 60 bucks.

@AiurFlux: I sympathize, and am saddened because I wanted to buy and play this game too, but now I know that will never happen. Also, thanks for being the voice of reason in these over-apologetic threads. Your use of the word "stench" is appropriate, even though many around here will be too naive to agree with you.

Yeah, that was the weirdest thing I heard in this entire video. This is the whole reason I'm not buying it. Too bad too, because I have about 10 hours of flying to do next week, and I was hoping to get this game going on my laptop so I'd have something to do for that.

Guess I'll stick to reading Wired for War instead. The ideas for Black Ops 2 that are coming from that book have me intrigued.

The whole left-right-right click combo thing has nothing to do with elective mode, that's the default control scheme (and what a shock that Brad missed out on the default controls). In the menu, by default, you pick a left mouse button skill and a right mouse button skill, but they must be primary skills, which are the only comboable ones. In elective mode you can put secondary/defensive/etc skills on the clicks and put primary skills on 1-4 should you be so inclined, though you are still limited to the exact same "equipped" skills. In other words, it changes basically nothing, unless you'd like to combo with the number keys instead of clicking....

@AiurFlux: Oh stop being so dramatic. This is launch day one a multiplayer game. It's cool that you don't want to play it that way, for for the vast majority of fans (i.e people who played diablo 2), you played multiplayer. This game is heavily multiplayer focused and it's a damn site better than alt-tabbing to get to the battlenet forums.

This is the first two days of release. You have your entire lifetime to play this game. Seriously. Stop being such a baby. This is not pong and games have changed. There are going to be issues. Just because you view this game as a single player experience does not at all mean you're in the majority.

Next you're going to start telling me you remember the good old days when games shipped complete.

@Hef: Stop being a defensive fanboy.

1. This game should've had an optional offline mode.

2. Blizzard didn't have their shit together.

No point in making excuses for these clear issues.

Just out of curiosity do you even notice your complete lack of bipartisanship? Or is the kind of thing that goes in your head "online only is stupid, and i'm right!"

That was Diablo II and there was still tons of hacking. So it can't be as simple as you say because they already did that 12 years ago and it didn't work.
