So they cut out the 3 hours before hand? Pfffft, that's the REAL content.

Posted by scarace360

Thats up fast.

Posted by PsychoPenguin

I too am more excited about torchlight 2. 1/3rd the price, no constant connection to a server required, mod tools, etc.

Posted by ChaosTony

Why the hell is UPS taking so long to deliver my collector's edition!? D:

Why am I totally not interested in this game? I know I should be. I loved Diablo 2.

Yeah, I'm sure I'll grab a copy of Diablo 3 once it's in the $20-30 range, or less, but from the online DRM to the actual gameplay, there's very little that's appealing about this game compared to the previous releases. If they release a console version, as they were rumored to be working on, I might buy it sooner, as direct control is the preferable way to play this kind of games, and that they probably wouldn't get away with forced online authentication for the console releases.

Torchlight 2, while I haven't seen much of it, looks pretty promising.

Also, in the 3 hour part they cut from this video they mentioned that Divine Divinity was a great Diablo style game, I do own a copy of that which I haven't even played yet, seems like something I probably should play.

Where is the part where they played Diablo 2?

Not only server issues, lots of people not getting achievements in game too. Buggy launch day ftw :p

The way Brad plays this game aggravates me. I'm not sure why.

So weird experiencing lag in a single player game...

Posted by TheHBK

Mine didn't work because I bought it from some one of those mom and pop video game shops that has old hardware and janky ass knock offs. Saw they had it, and got it. Put in the disc, dont work. Pop it out, it says DIA3LO :(

Posted by KillyDarko
@fisk0: I'll maybe disagree about the control scheme, but that's probably just because I'm way too used to playing PC games for like, 99% of the time ^^
As for Divine Divinity, I heard them talking about it and I've never played it either, so maybe it's about time :)

Man, this video player is really crapping up.

You mean the part where literally nothing happened beyond "...So it's not working. Still not working. Is it working now? Nope..."

Is that the real content you're talking about?

Looks sweet! Played the shit out of Diablo 1 as it was rentable at my local library! Never got 2 but I may now since it works on Macs! I'll probably get this somewhere down the future when I upgrade my OSX.

The part where they were staring at download progress bars. If that compels you... I recommend you buy and play Diablo III right now!

Guys, this single-player game is having server issues. Welcome to the future of video gaming!

Edited by fisk0

@KillyDarko: I've really only been playing console games actively for the past 5 years or so, grew up with a PC and other than a Game Boy and my sister's N64, the PC is what I've been playing on for the past 20+ years. I still don't think the Diablo style of mouse movement very rewarding. I still loved Diablo 1, but by Diablo 2 I started getting tired of it, more than anything it feels like it introduces an unnecessary step between you and the avatar. Even then I preferred the arrow key based direct movement in games like Dink Smallwood or Hero's Quest, and after experienced action RPG's with analog sticks in games like Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance and Champions of Norrath (or even the d-pad in the PS1 port of Diablo), I don't see any benefits with Diablo's controls over direct controls with gamepad, with the possible exception of ranged combat, which was kinda awkward in Dark Alliance, but worked pretty well in Champions of Norrath. The only games where I think mouse controls are superior are in party based RPG's liked the Infinity Engine games, or other games where the action is slower and more deliberate, and gives you the option to pause the combat.

Yeah, remember last week's TNT when Brad - after an hour of getting these issues in Minecraft 360 - exclaimed "Guys, is it too late to change the review score"? This time they have the time, I wonder what they'll do with it.

That game looks 3-5 years old.

yes very little appealing indeed. lets judge a game before we play it huh? I'm in the TL2 beta and its pretty ridiculous to put it on the same ground as D3. Don't full of confirmation bias.

One does not simply... log into Diablo 3!

You're absolutely right about not judging the game before playing it and the past day's issues being a good source for confirmation bias regarding everything else about the game. I fully intend to give the game a try once it gets cheaper, and should probably have withheld making too opinionated comments on the game until I get to do that. That said, it doesn't look like they've focused on expanding on the things I liked about the previous games, while making a permanent connection to their servers a requirement despite my preferred way of playing the Diablo games so far have been alone.

There were 3 hours worth of content before this?! Awww.. I really would like to have seen that, even if it was just them cussing at the game trying to connect.

Aside from Diablo 1 being a very wholesome, atmospheric and entertaing action RPG back when it came out (in a way the best one - at the time) my whole nostalgia for the franchise comes from those endless LAN parties we had with Diablo 2. The weaker singleplayer was perfectly balanced with the insane amount of fun that was had with a small party of finely tuned adventurers.

So what Blizzards wants to sell me now is the dumbed down, streamlined version of that without LAN and with some severe concerns as to its playablitiy in singleplayer due to intrusive DRM. To make up for it I can look forward to micro transactions and extensive social media and online integration. I think it's a smart move for the huge newer WoW-based Blizzard fans. It is however most likely not for me at all. For my tastes this seems to be significantly less interesting than the great Titan Quest and if I really want another Diablo-esque game I'm probably better off with the affordable Torchlight 2. Only played the demo of the first one but it felt like a very good Diablo-clone.
