I too am more excited about torchlight 2. 1/3rd the price, no constant connection to a server required, mod tools, etc.

This. I still wanna play Diablo 3, but I'm much more interested in Torchlight 2.

Yeah, I'm sure I'll grab a copy of Diablo 3 once it's in the $20-30 range, or less, but from the online DRM to the actual gameplay, there's very little that's appealing about this game compared to the previous releases. If they release a console version, as they were rumored to be working on, I might buy it sooner, as direct control is the preferable way to play this kind of games, and that they probably wouldn't get away with forced online authentication for the console releases.

Torchlight 2, while I haven't seen much of it, looks pretty promising.

Also, in the 3 hour part they cut from this video they mentioned that Divine Divinity was a great Diablo style game, I do own a copy of that which I haven't even played yet, seems like something I probably should play.

yes very little appealing indeed. lets judge a game before we play it huh? I'm in the TL2 beta and its pretty ridiculous to put it on the same ground as D3. Don't full of confirmation bias.

You're absolutely right about not judging the game before playing it and the past day's issues being a good source for confirmation bias regarding everything else about the game. I fully intend to give the game a try once it gets cheaper, and should probably have withheld making too opinionated comments on the game until I get to do that. That said, it doesn't look like they've focused on expanding on the things I liked about the previous games, while making a permanent connection to their servers a requirement despite my preferred way of playing the Diablo games so far have been alone.

servers are theoretically annoying but nowadays i'm always online on my PC anw. So practically for 99% of players it should make no difference. I think the mechanics actually make a lot of sense, sure its different and if we liked the older mechanics we should be wary of change but I think if you give it a fair chance it might come back and please you like never before.

Awwwww, man. I was worried that they might do that. The taco conversation doesn't even make sense without it.

I hope that the TNT will be good, and actually work.

I am in agony watching this. Brads a smart guy so i'm not sure why he was having trouble figuring some of this stuff out, oh well.

I really like the part where I thought my volume was way down or something wasn't working so I hit the volume up a bunch of times, and then Brad blew out my eardrums. Thanks Brad!

Diablo 3 is going to be $60 for years to come.

Anyone who is calling this game dumbed down really doesn't have any idea about the game's systems. First, I'd argue that Diablo 2 was absolutely not a deep game in any meaningful way. The skill trees were incredibly limiting and the introduction of synergies had the complete opposite effect that was intended, and railroaded to only a tiny handful of specific builds per class. There was also only really one or two different stat point builds that were viable for hell difficulty.

The amount of different playstyles and character builds supported and viable in D3 is staggering and far outweighs D2.

I've been pretty astounded by the sheer variety and flexibility in the combat.

And I'm playing a Barbarian.

And I'm only level 8.

We'll see if I'm still this jazzed in a hundred hours but, so far, it plays fuckin' great.

You know what game doesn't make you wait in queues to play a single player game, or block you from playing single player if the servers are down? Or kick you off in the middle of playing single player causing you to lose progress?

Fucking Torchlight 2.

so... can someone tell me why this game was so hyped? It looks like any other game of its genre. I mean I enjoyed torchlight but that game made me yawn in parts too. oh and online only singleplayer seems like the worst idea on earth.

Not quite what I said, but the way you paraphrased it it makes even more sense. Of course less precise controls cause less of an issue if you can take your time when struggling with them.

The intricate terms of the taco purchasing bet were cut, so I assume anyone watching this who didn't watch the stuff before it has no idea what they're talking about with that.

Although, I'd have to say that the most informative parts of this were seeing just how much progress you lose every time there's a server hiccup. I'm completely sold on NOT buying this game now.

This is all Brad is going to be talking about, like all year. I predict it'll win GOTY in the same way Skyrim did last year. It's a great game but severely overrated.

Yeah seriously, screw Blizzard's pricing. They still sell Starcraft, a 14 year old game that can only run at 640x480, for $15. Other respected PC gaming companies with their kind of success would be giving a game that old away for free as a thank you to fans at this point (such as with Bethesda and their older games).

While it's silly that StarCraft and Diablo 2 are still $15, they've been at that price point since around 2 years after release - so while they should've dropped in price more since then, it didn't take too long until they reached their current price point (which WOW is also at, and SC2 is closing in on). I think Diablo 3 is probably available at around $30 by the end of the year.

Stop telling Brad to not pick up white loot drew! Crafting items and upgrading the blacksmith costs a shit ton, and selling everything you find is a VERY important way to get money. Also you have unlimited town portal, so why wouldn't you do it. Also everything only takes up two spaces and you have a way bigger inventory than D2, so you're not going back to town every 30 seconds.

Why am I totally not interested in this game? I know I should be. I loved Diablo 2.

Same here, I can think of a dozen reasons, though I'm wondering if we actually get reviews that echo that sentiment.

Skyrim, Dark Souls, Witcher .......................................Diablo 3 (end of scale)

If you're worrying if the game's worth it, since many people complain about it being dumbed down, the Act 2 boss fight will tell you exactly why Diablo III is a thousand times more awesome. The feeling af badassery is unmatched in the genre here.

About no pots: There are no mana pots, so your play style will in fact be more thought requiring, since you can't just spam your best ability and then pots to keep mana up. You actually have to think about spending your combat ressource. Also, classes can wear a lot more type of gear this time, so stats have been funelled into gear a lot more, rather than you assigning them.

If you're looking for the oppotunity to mop the floor with thousands of demon minions, while tonnes of magic effects fly in all sorts of colorful directions, play this game.

Hardcore characters are dropping like flies because of lag or being disconnected from the servers.

Always online DRM stinky bullshit won`t hurt legit players you say? Pahahaha...ha!

I won`t be buying D3 until Blizzard fixes all these teething problems.

I'm not sure if I'd play even if someone bought the game for me (my birthday is next week, after all)...I'd still feel dirty and somehow like I was supporting this BS. If I don't care about selling digital loot for actual money, and I'm not a cheater, why can't I play offline again?

This is exactly why I'm not buying this game day 1: I don't trust the servers to be stable at all times, especially at the onset. I'm still not convinced about Blizzard basically turning a single player game into an instanced MMO, but I'll probably buy it when it comes down in price. I do agree that I'm more interested in Torchlight 2 at this point than Diablo III.

It is disappointing, but the GB plan was probably to blow through the beta stuff and get to original material. This is like 3 hours into their live stream, most of which was alternating between a login screen of Diablo 3 and Brad playing Diablo 2.
