Lame ass fellowship of the ring try-hards at the end there.

Not much faith after DA2 but who knows.

We don't need you anymore Bioware(EA), we have cd project red now.

It was bad, but I think it's reputation would lead people who have not played it to believe that it is worse than it is.

Ignoring everything else (and there's a lot to ignore) the story isn't anything amazing. A bunch of random things happen, and your character happens to be around when they happen. Sometimes you don't even resolve the problem yourself, and the ending comes out of nowhere with every single damn NPC in the game go full on batshit crazy mode.

Some people liked the companions; I mostly didn't. Varric and Aveline were good, the rest were annoying. Fenris definitely feels like someone trying to do a Twilight homage, and the pirate lady was just a horny, pirate Catwoman.

Play it yourself, I say. Odds are, you've been led to believe that it's so bad that you might actually enjoy it. Unfortunately, many of us had really high hopes after how amazing the original Dragon Age was, and combining that with BioWare turning on the community for complaining about the game when it was released, led a great many of us to greatly despise Dragon Age II.

They have already shown extensive gameplay demos and its pretty safe to say that it builds upon Dragon Age 2. Its a full on action game from the look of it. Which is a real shame as I immensely enjoyed the gameplay of Origins on PC.

Didn't they say they would aim to make it more like Origins than DA2? I'm fairly sure they said so.

By the way, this doesn't look as good as I thought it would.

You can probably pick it up for almost nothing, so just give it a try if you're curious. Speaking as a guy who didn't think the battle system in Dragon Age 1 was any fun, I also did not like to the battle system in Dragon Age 2. It's not a fun action RPG-system the way Amalur or Dark Souls or Dragon's Dogma are. But also, I gave it up because of weird timeskips, characters and cinematics that tried to be way more "epic" and like the LotR movies than they were capable of. Dragon Age 1 had that as well, but they spent hours first introducing you to the world and your character. DA 2 begins poorly.

You are the only one who can save the world from impending doom!

I am sure you will need to travel across the land to gather an army and support to help you fight the enemy. They seemed to have left that part out of the trailer.

The dragon fights sound neat. I just read an interview over at IGN (or rather three quotes that they stretched into a whole article). It sounds like it could be pretty tactical and dynamic.

The different dragon types have different elemental attacks. They take off, land, fly around, charge at you, strafe you, ect . Where you damage the dragon affects how the fight plays out (you can damage the wing or the leg, for example to incapacitate it in different ways). They're talking about the dragons destroying the environment around you. Sounds good on paper.

I don't share the sentiment that some of you have that this game looks that good (graphically). The facial animation on that chick in the beginning looked pretty crappy to me. Some of the environments look alright though. Graphics aside, I'm interested in seeing how this turns out. Didn't play Dragon Age 2 but I enjoyed Origins.

I'll chime in: It was pretty bad if you expected an RPG with tactical combat. Most battles spawned in enemies mid-fight and your previous positioning of characters would be messed up by it. I'd say the combat was the weakest part of the game, the rest was fine (not much more). Oh, and there were painfully few locales, they rushed the game and it showed in that regard.

Did Origins sell for shit or something? They made that game with the intent to bring back those old tactical RPG's, and everyone I talked to that liked those games loved origins.

And then they make DA2, and now this one honestly looks like its heading down a similar road. I just don't understand

My biggest problem with dragon age games has been the lack of voiceovers for the dialogues. I hate reading all the conversation trees. I mean, Bioware did voice over for everything in Mass Effect, why can't they do it for this.

I think it really takes me out of the experience when I have to read through the dialogues. And it makes the game very boring for me.

So do we know if this game has voice over for everything?

So how do I get my decisions for DAO, Awakening, and DAII from my PS3 to my PS4?

Cassandra, the character doing the voiceover, is Nevarran, not Orlesian. Making her fake... something.

You use the Dragon Age: Keep. An entirely online service to recreate your world state (or an entirely new one) and import it into your Inquisition game.

@atwa: This is extremely false by a large margin my friend. From everything they've said, and shown, it's got more of a 'tactical' and survivaly aspect then the original Dragon Age Origins. The return of the tactical camera (pull out, top down, not tied to a character) is on ALL platforms and more advanced then it was in origins. They have spells such as Ice Wall that allow you to block ranged attacks. Some 'natural cover' you maybe fighting behind to block arrows can be destroyed by larger enemies, or larger spells.

On top of all this you have no regenerating health. Even DAO had regenerating health, this game doesn't. You have a limited amount of potions you can carry (no longer multi-stacks of 99) and you can't create potions and such out in the field. It requrie's there crafting tables to do. So no more 'crafting up' a potion mid fight cause your running low.

Hope this clears up some of that for folks on here thinking it's turned into a blatant hack n slash with no tactical depth.

"Pre-order today to recieve (insert in-game content here)", no other line ever makes me more wary of pre-ordering a game.

Me neither, really. Those decisions are made by the same people who decree certain genres to be dead, which is always completely nuts. That's what happens when these games become too expensive to only cater to that original "niche", and this title certainly looks expensive.

I'm just glad that there's Obsidian's Pillars of Eternity and other kickstarter games on the way for those that want that classic, tactical combat.

Boy, that is one generic-ass fantasy trailer. Lady with weird accent giving you exposition? You being special for some unknown reason? Lots of jargon? Orchestra music? DRAGONS? Yep.

...Not to say this means anything about the game, mind you. I mean, the original Dragon Age had a goddamn Marilyn Manson trailer. NEVER FORGET

It's not good, but it's not the child-murdering shitpile people would have you believe. It's functional, but skin and bones. The combat isn't great, but it's not outright broken. The conversations are atleast somewhat interesting but not as endearing as DA:O was. The story is atleast unique in terms of RPG stories. Most don't tell the life of a character living in a city, spanning over years.

Its biggest offense really is how apparent it cuts corners. It reuses the same 3 or 4 dungeon environments but blocks off walls and archways. trying to pass them off as different areas. The equipment interface has you only able to fully change your armor/weapons/accessories, but you can only change the weapons and accessories of your companions.

There is a reason for this - instead of the multi-year development they had on DA:O, they made DA2 in like... a year and a half. They pretty much had to make the story take place in a single city and reuse all those assets. But it doesn't help the end-user's experience.

I dunno... try it. You can get it for cheap. It's not the worst thing ever. It's just not great.

Almost the entire game took place within a small city. Every dungeon was "copy-pasted" to the point where it would be the exact same dungeon, but a different door would be unlocked so the exit was in a slightly different place. Enemies would spawn out of thin air and come in waves. The combat was mindless, you could spam the attack button and win every scenario. The story was okay, but very low stakes.

They have already shown extensive gameplay demos and its pretty safe to say that it builds upon Dragon Age 2. Its a full on action game from the look of it. Which is a real shame as I immensely enjoyed the gameplay of Origins on PC.

I dunno, I thought the leaked phone captured gameplay video looked closer to DAO. It had a slower pace compared to DA2 and seemed like the attacks had more weight to them. Also enemies were not blowing into puddles of blood after getting hit once. The isometric camera is also back. IMO it's looking pretty good, they're winning me over again.

Yeah, it definitely all looks a lot more animated, but this is most certainly not Devil May Cry or anything like that.

I feel like this game is really make-or-break for Bioware.

With the disappointing and at times shockingly bad DA2, the massive misstep that was TOR, and the fan backlash from ME3, Bioware has lost much of the good will that it earned over the years. I get the vibe that this game is going to be a deciding factor for many as to whether there's still some life left in the company, or whether it is just going to be cannibalized and used to pump out shovelware like other studios before it.

I know for me, how this game goes is going to determine whether I still get interested in Bioware, or simply choose to remember them as they once were.

That looked amazing. Stoked for it! Also people need to shut up... Bioware made one of the best trilogies of the last generation, so people all being dicks like "oh, Bioware still makes games, who knew..." need to really pipe down. Sure they made a slightly disappointing ending in ME3 and a disappointing game in DA2, but overall their record for making good games is solid. All these people acting like Bioware is suddenly the worst developers out there... pfft.

The female character's accent in this trailer...what is it supposed to be? It sounds awful and forced, like a bad Hollywood movie...Like that Hercules movie that came out at the beginning of the year...why give the American actor a horrible English accent? Pretty sure Hercules was not British.

Probably cause it's not English. It's Orlean/French

seems like some not-so-subtle foreshadowing in the last shot, what with the 13 figures, 12 of which are looking at the central one. they even have the non-circular halo, just elongated a bit. there are so many other religious martyr stories to rip off!

Up until around the time of Mass Effect 3, DAO was the best selling BioWare game. I think it sold a total of ~4 million copies.

The problem seems to be that the game was in development for a long time, they had no idea what kind of sales to expect, and EA acquired BioWare about 2 years before DAO came out. EA, like a lot of big corps, probably expected it to sell poorly as it was an RPG, and had the team start pumping out the 2nd game as soon as the first one went gold. They wanted a return on investment.

Well, DAO had long legs, and is one of the few games were sales went up over the first 10 weeks. EA / BioWare was probably excited about the possibility of the sequel doing the same numbers despite being a rush job, so they continued ahead full steam.

These days they (hopefully) learned a lesson from the critical pounding and fan backlash from DA2, and they saw how well Skyrim sold. So now they seem to be hoping to chase Skyrim. That's the loose version of it all.

EA was very much the problem with DA2.

http://kotaku.com/5780870/ever-wonder-why-dragon-age-ii-came-out-so-soon

The game's composer, Inon Zur, may have an answer for you. "Unlike other titles from Bioware, this [score] was kind of a rush job", he tells IGN. "EA really wanted to capitalize on the success of Origins, so the game was really being pushed hard to be released now."

EA bought Bioware and saw dollar signs over the franchise and tried to flip another one on a ludicrously short time frame to make a quick buck (I'm sorry "Capitalize on the success"). The result was a hollow game with moronic/bad combat mixed with a rotation of constantly regurgitated environments. Also didn't help that it ran way worse on PC than it had any business doing.

Alright, the Monty Python/Dragon Age mash up game I've been asking for since I had that fever dream.
