Looks neat, though also probably looks like it's gonna follow the ol' Bioware policy of ignoring my decisions made in previous games.

I have to say that the most appealing thing about this game so far has been the fact that the player is founding the order (The Inquisition). This seems like an interesting thing to do, mostly from a narative perspective, especially if Bioware goes somewhere with it in the future. Some years from now (if Bioware plays its cards right) the DA universe is alive & kicking, the Inquisition could be a big thing and you could be playing a game in that universe thinking: "I founded that order." This is all speculation, but man, wouldn't it be awesome?

It will be interesting to see if they reveal gameplay. If it still isn't like DA:O was then a huge group of people will turn their backs on it. If it's as bad as DA2 was then even more people will turn their backs on it.

Gotta love the DA2 hate after all these years: some people just can't let things go. If it's short production time worried any of you, you shouldn't have bought it in the first place.

As for the actual game trailer - I dig it. Looks like it could be amazing. It's just a trailer though: here's hoping they do another one of those thirty minute or so gameplay videos that shows a lot more.

"You are the chosen one! The only person who can save the world!!" So much money, effort and time spend to tell the same tale over again. What's more aggravating is that it works and people want nothing else.

Loved Origins. They either need to make a true sequel to that or just go after The Witcher and make a great action RPG. Just not some wet-fart inbetween, or Dragon Age 2, I believe is the technical term.

The female character's accent in this trailer...what is it supposed to be? It sounds awful and forced, like a bad Hollywood movie...Like that Hercules movie that came out at the beginning of the year...why give the American actor a horrible English accent? Pretty sure Hercules was not British.

Orlesian, fake French. It's where Leliana from the first game is from.

Nah, she's from Nevarra. Which could maybe be viewed as their... fake... Belgian, or something.

Well, I didn't hate Dragon Age 2. In fact, I thought it was a pretty okay game. Didn't come anywhere NEAR the quality of Dragon Age: Origins, but judged on its own merits, it was.... decent enough. While I hope Dragon Age: Inquisition will be as good as Origins, I'd be happy so long as it was as good as Dragon Age 2.

The reference in the final shot is not Lord of the Rings, but clearly...

Da Vinci's
Da Vinci's "The Last Supper"

Also, how is that one CD Projekt RED game we get every half a decade or so enough Biowaresian RPG for anyone? Speak for yourself. I want Bioware to live long and prosper, and make plenty Biowaresian RPGs for me to brighten my days with.

On the topic of "DA2 was shit", for me it was mostly a matter of expectations.

I can objectively look at it and say "yeah this game isn't terrible", but as someone who loves Origins (probably my #1 game), it was disappointing as fuck.

Also, the story just infuriates me. It took a character I found charming in awakening, and well... you guys know about what happens with Anders. I've wanted to go back and try the game again, now that I have some distance, but the thought of having to interact with that fuckwad again is honestly keeping me away. Which is ridiculous, and I guess Bioware should be commended for making a character I dislike so much as to prevent me from playing the game. Its impressive

Looks like a mix of DA:O, Skyrim, and The Witcher 2 (maybe a little Dark Souls as well.)

I have hope, they said they wanted to make it structured like Skyrim but still not abandon what made Dragon Age great, or at least from what I can recall. Let's hope they can hold up that end and make something special.

It's not good, but it's not the child-murdering shitpile people would have you believe.

Then the cookie-cutter dungeons, the reduction in scope from an entire region to essentially a single city, waves of enemies that materialized out of thin air (making planning a moot point), and quests that essentially consist of picking up a random item, and then telepathically knowing who it belongs to (back in that one city, of course), destroy those initial perceptions.

And then, even if you can look past the above, clearly rushed design decisions, the story takes a massive dump on your chest from the second Anders blows up the Chantry (despite his entire character arc to that point essentially being you talking some sense into him) onward. Literally every single thing after that moment, is ridiculous, and completely unjustified. And then the big ending? "The Champion was never seen again". Well fucking thank you, Bioware.

This is concise, comprehensive and astute criticism. You have nailed everything that is wrong with Dragon Age 2. That said, may I agree but take issue with the degree?

The enemy wave mechanic is pretty awful because it robs you of the fun of using your powerful abilities but the cookie-cutter dungeons, smaller scope and ESP quests are all compatible with a fun game even if a bit disappointing.

The ending is Mass Effect 3 bad (thankfully, with less riding on it) but like Mass Effect I thoroughly enjoyed the story up to that point. The conflict between templars - who are facists but also genuinely protecting society from a nearly uncontrollable threat - and mages - most of whom have done and will do nothing wrong but are all capable of (and tempted by!) mass murder and destruction - is compelling for its lack of easy answers.

Although I agree with every flaw you mention, shitpile? How about flawed and disappointing but still maybe worth playing?

Did Origins sell for shit or something? They made that game with the intent to bring back those old tactical RPG's, and everyone I talked to that liked those games loved origins.

And then they make DA2, and now this one honestly looks like its heading down a similar road. I just don't understand

I believe DAO sold "well" but not great, and DA2 was essentially their attempt to rope in more of the Mass Effect crowd, as well as fans of third person action games like Gears of War.

If you're EA it makes sense, because I'd bet the DA games are not cheap to make - but what they essentially did was rush out a game that tried to appeal to two completely different audiences, and ended up not appealing to either. I think DA2 actually sold better than DAO (probably based on hype following the first one, however), but retrospectively, it also nearly killed the franchise.

It's not good, but it's not the child-murdering shitpile people would have you believe.

As someone who played DAO to completion three times, pre-ordered DA2 the day it was possible, upgraded his entire PC for the game, and took days off work to make sure I could play it the day it came out... yeah, it kinda was.

Not at first - at first, the upgraded visuals grab you, the new city looks fantastic, and it really does look like another DAO game.

I'm interested in this game, because I loved the shit out of DAO, and I have to believe Bioware took at least some of the massive outrage they received to heart. I also assume Skyrim must have shown them that you can create a high-fantasy RPG in this day and age that is faithful to fans of the genre, and still sell millions. It also looks gorgeous, and while the whole "tear in the world from which bad things are pouring out" sounds a little too-close to Elder Scrolls for comfort, the Inquisition angle sounds interesting. I'm rooting for Bioware to reclaim their mantle as one of the kings of the modern RPG - I just have no illusions about what a shitpile DA2 was, compared to DAO.

People are pissy and hyperbolic on the internet. It was alright and the combat was way more tactical if you compare console versions of origine vs DA2.

Couldn't agree more; DA2 had it's flaws but it was still a really fun game. I think I played through it at least 3 times over the course of a couple of years, I just had to keep coming back to it.

If they hadn't called it Dragon Age 2, it might have gone over better. If that game had been presented from the beginning as a smaller action game with RPG elements, a tie-in to the franchise but not a full on sequel, maybe there wouldn't have been an expectation for it to be a long game, and therefore the reuse of environments and other repetition problems could have been avoided all together.

The turnaround time between DA:O and DA2 was absurdly short; there's little mystery why the game has the environment asset-limitation problems so many people point out.

Up until around the time of Mass Effect 3, DAO was the best selling BioWare game. I think it sold a total of ~4 million copies.

Well, DAO had long legs, and is one of the few games were sales went up over the first 10 weeks. EA / BioWare was probably excited about the possibility of the sequel doing the same numbers despite being a rush job, so they continued ahead full steam.

These days they (hopefully) learned a lesson from the critical pounding and fan backlash from DA2, and they saw how well Skyrim sold. So now they seem to be hoping to chase Skyrim. That's the loose version of it all.

Funnily enough DAO sold the most on consoles as well, so that probably means they also tried to cater more to the ''console kiddies'' or however you want to phrase the stereotype by actioning it up and filling the marketing with stupid buzz-terms like the ''button = awesome'' thing.

Did not realize how much I want a real sequel to Dragon Age Origins. Please don't disappoint. I didn't hate Dragon Age 2 but I certainly don't want another one. Just going to cross my fingers and wait to see what they show gameplay wise at E3

They have already shown extensive gameplay demos and its pretty safe to say that it builds upon Dragon Age 2. Its a full on action game from the look of it. Which is a real shame as I immensely enjoyed the gameplay of Origins on PC.

Such a shame :( It will probably be enjoyable if they don't re-use the same space all the time as in DA 2, but DA Origins is one of my favourite games. Recently started re-playing it.

That guy is full of crap. You can play it classic Origins style, or play it with an action-based focus like Dragon Age 2. The game doesn't penalize you for preferring one style over the other.

EA was very much the problem with DA2.

http://kotaku.com/5780870/ever-wonder-why-dragon-age-ii-came-out-so-soon

The game's composer, Inon Zur, may have an answer for you. "Unlike other titles from Bioware, this [score] was kind of a rush job", he tells IGN. "EA really wanted to capitalize on the success of Origins, so the game was really being pushed hard to be released now."

EA bought Bioware and saw dollar signs over the franchise and tried to flip another one on a ludicrously short time frame to make a quick buck (I'm sorry "Capitalize on the success"). The result was a hollow game with moronic/bad combat mixed with a rotation of constantly regurgitated environments. Also didn't help that it ran way worse on PC than it had any business doing.
