I want to get this on Vita but early adopters are saying there are framerate issues and slight gameplay tweaks that are making the game harder than it really needs to be. I didn't pick the game up on Steam because I was convinced it'd be this perfect portable pick-up-and-play speedrunning entertainment, but now I'm just wondering if I should keep waiting a bit longer for a patch to come out!

...That plus I gotta force myself to finish Ys because if I drop it now I just know I'll never finish it!

Yeah, I had read some similar things. Knowing what I know of playing the PC version, framerate issues are probably the worst thing you could have to deal with in this game. I was all excited for double-dipping on a Vita version, but I think I'll be holding off for now.

Such a neat game. Absolutely amazing soundtrack. Even if you don't check the game out, you should definitely give the soundtrack a listen.

This is exactly what I came here to write, so thanks @ghostyTrickster and I second this statement. It's such a great game and soundtrack!

I seem to remember that you pretty much had to S rank a level in order to get a key unlock more of them, it was really demanding in terms of progression. Also an S rank required you to get every bit of dust and carry a combo from the beginning to the end of a level, so disabling the mid-level checkpoints and doing a perfect run was pretty much the only way to progress.

Ah, but they did change this a bit later, now that I think about it. Your rank in a level would add to a bar that when filled up rewarded you with a key, so it was possible to progress from having a bunch of non-perfect scores.

Anyway, fun game. It's pretty and sounds good, though is not the most accessible. I played a good chunk of it, but will never finish it.

I'll echo others and say that the game is fun but feels a bit off, not quite as tight as Super Meat Boy. I still enjoyed my time with it though thanks to the great look of the game, and the soundtrack is one of the best I've ever heard. It's still my go-to album when I'm writing/programming years later.

Just picked this up and played for a half hour - my Vita is getting some serious love this year between Olli Olli, Spellunky (finally picked this up recently) and now this.

Back to Dust Force - platforming is pretty awesome from the little time I spent with it. Definitely recommend using the dpad as opposed to the analog stick they reference in the tutorial.

The whole premise is refreshing as well - I'm a mother fucking janitor yo!

Something about the animation and match your movements always felt off to me. I also didn't like the way the levels were organized, I couldn't find any obvious progression. Which sucks cause it took me longer to realize how momentum based it was. I remember getting stuck at a checkpoint because the jump was impossible to make if you lost your speed before hand. Or maybe I was just bad.

Don't worry, I felt exactly the same way. I think the window of time is far too short on literally every action you can perform: double jumps, dashes, wall jumps, wall slides, changing direction to initiate wall slides, ceiling slides, etc. Because of that, the gameplay is borderline unenjoyable until you sink literally a week or two of playtime into it. So sure, there are some positive Steam reviews from people with like 140+ hours of playtime, but I didn't enjoy my 10 hours with the game very much.

If you're able to obsess on one game, and one level at a time in that game, to the same degree as people who do AGDQ and SGDQ, then Dustforce is for you. It's a game for the speedrunner community. If you're any other person, I think you're better off with Super Meat Boy, where the game is fine with you merely finishing a level, instead of demanding that you pretty much perfect it.

tl;dr the music and art are fantastic, but I think Dustforce's brand of momentum-based platforming that encourages perfect runs isn't very good. Would not recommend.

If you have not played this game yet PLAY IT! It is amazing, the soundtrack and fluidity of control make this game really special. I would without a doubt say that this is one of the best games that I have played in my entire gaming career.

This is one of those games that's very clearly awesome, but I wasn't able to find time to get decent at. Didn't help that when games offer completion scores like this, I can't let myself move on from a stage until I get a perfect.

Does the GB video player work like shit for anyone else? It works, but only in the most bare bones sense as it gives me 1fps and audio.

It's been kinda shitty since the site relaunch, and it's gotten worse in the past few weeks for some reason, for the most part the videos start getting scrambled and cut to green around halfway through for me nowadays. Apparently there is a new player in the works though, which hopefully will appear in the coming weeks.

It works... ok, until my cursor brings up the control bar (pause/play/fullscreen thing) and then it goes straight to hell.

Also, seeing as you're responding, when I move it to full screen it re-starts the video AND kills the frame rate yet again.

Is there a fix for this or a workaround?

Premium users have the ability to download the video files, so they can be watched locally in a working media player, we also have a couple of other player options, where progressive and HTML5 players work slightly better than the default (streaming) player, but not by much.

I think the new player they'll roll out soon-ish will be available for both premium and free users though, so the best option if you don't want to subscribe is probably to wait, and to catch whatever content they put up on their youtube channel instead. Trailers won't get uploaded there though, but usually these trailers are uploaded by other places as well if you want to see what they're about.

Cant wait for spire, if it rewards skill in the same way as dustforce it'll be amazing.

Most of the soundtrack was used for the Double Fine documentary :) Specifically "9 bit Expedition" and "Magnetic Tree".

Anyone know what's happening with Hitbox's next game Spire? It was like some Mirror's Edge + fantasy roguelike. Have heard nothing of it since January 2013.
