"We've brought back Tanner" pause for non-existant applause...

Posted by Ramyun

Yeah....this games looks rough

This looks interesting. Not sure if I like this "shift" ability though

Posted by C2C

Not sure if I like how they handled the brake light effect they have there.

Posted by mangomonger

thats video looks highly edited...must see some more gameplay

Posted by Voidoid

What he's saying is that they have eliminated car-jacking and on-foot sequences but that's okay because it's deeply integrated into the story, the story being a series of car chases that are not actually taking place but are really part of a this trippy coma-dream. Licensed cars certainly won't save this game for me.

Posted by Balaamsafe

That shifting looks really odd, the game looks nice thought, getting a burnout vibe from the way the city fits together and the mention of multiplayer.

Posted by SPACETURTLE

Imo this looks like pure shit. Just as shitty as Driver 3, or should I say Driv3r. I guess it's still fairly early on to make any final judgements. But thus far, it's a no go for me.

Posted by edenspresence

I mean... this could be good .....

Dr1ver (:P) did control awesomely at the time. If they just put me in a city with a car that controls great then I could be persuaded.

Posted by qUaK3R

i bet Mr. Martin thinks the game is awesome. HES WRONG. What fucked up story is that? The guy in a coma, shifting between cars?

This guy begged for a job at ubisoft, and they told him "here's a couple of bucks, go make us a driver game".

Posted by iMiles

Did they hire a comedian or is that a ubisoft suit acting really high?

Also, am I the only person in the world who vaguely liked driv3r?

He is a comedian.  And I kind of liked Driv3r, though the PC version might have been more polished than the console one?  Not sure.  I don't remember any bugs though, just crappy shooting and bad graphics.

that's Joel McHale, who hosts The Soup, and is in Community

They've definitely got me interested. I'll wait for reviews, though.

Really? I thought the game looked much more like Midnight Club: LA. Which is fine by me since I loved that game.

Seems really gamey, not because of the coma, but because it showed a challenger keeping up with a porsche, that's moon made of cheese logic.

Posted by Zoombini

Strange idea for a story. The coma idea seems to suggest that the events of the game are a coma dream in Tanners head, which makes it a little demoralize and difficult to be interested in. Especially since you know that fact off the bat that everything is non-real. However I might be misinterpreting what they are aiming for and I do enjoy the retro car chase vibe they are going for so I will follow this with a cautious optimism.

Posted by arcadmix

I remember enjoying the first Driver. Shift ability sounds cool, although sounds kinda dumb how they tried to explain the logic behind how it happens...

Posted by RE_Player1

at 4:15 did he say holy crap lol

Nah. Looks bad.

That new feature looks lame as hell

Dad is gonna give us such a whopping.

Seriously... Lincoln Force

Edited by Echo

Yep, that's Driver alright.

My name is John Tanner. I had an accident, and I woke up in 1973. Am I mad, in a coma, or back in a bad video game? Whatever's happened, it's like I've landed on a different planet. Now, maybe if I can work out the reason, I can get home.

Posted by TullyAckland

The Shift mechanic looks interesting but I'm worried what actual effect it will end up having on the game.

Who the hell cares about going back to Driver 1 and 2? Those were PLAYSTATION games. No one remembers anything about them or cares. This game looks like shit. Good job stealing carjacking from that Vin Diesel game.

Joel McHale is the only good part of this video.

I remember Driver, so, I think you could be wrong in your estimation,

"On the video though, Tanner is in a coma, but he doesn't know he is in a coma, and he has this ability to astral travel and take control of the environment..."

Dude.. What?

So... You're trying to be Life on Mars/Gran Turismo?
Posted by Gy13smart

I have fond memories of the first driver so im not gonna ruin it by playing this

I remember Driver, but do you really care that they're bringing back the guy from the first game and the bad guy from 2? That was my point. They made such a big deal about it and it doesn't really matter.
Posted by DrPockets000

I'm going to go put myself into a coma so I can Shift.

And still not getting the Joel McHale thing...

Posted by MarkWahlberg

Why is the Soup/Community dude here?

Hey at least they returned back to what it was - driving. The graphics should improve by the time of release - I am hoping especially for the incar view which seems essential in this type of game.

Oh yeah, I haven't a clue what the story was I just remember the game was awesome in it's day.
From what I remember of Tanner in Driver 1 and 2, it was alright, nothing significant, I was more into the "Driving in SF"
So if they are going to focus it back to what it should have always been, the driving part, sweet, Cause driv3r and driver parallel lines sucked, although I liked the concept of the latter, the gameplay was awful.

Edited comment... it's 2:40 am, urgh.
Posted by WizardShazam

I loved the original Driver but the shift thing is still a little weird.  Still looking forward to it.

Posted by 24Carrot

I do believe that the shitty civilian character models and the Midnight Club-esque feature of them becoming impossible to hit means no out of car gameplay. No shootouts, foot chases, or car-jacking. The lack of car-jacking I believe can be confirmed by the Shift feature.

Who knew a Dodge Challenger could keep up with a Porsche so well. Maybe it's the coma...

Edited by MeatSim

Maybe you shouldn't be driving a car if your in a coma.

Posted by iAmJohn

It looks like it could be fun.  But then again, every Reflections game since Driver 2 looked like it could be fun.

Posted by Bionicicide

I wouldn't mind a delay to 2012 based on that thumbnail.

I think the Challenger would keep up pretty well. Until they turned a few corners.
Posted by Rewcastle

It looked ok, until shift. What the dick was that??

Posted by Krenor

Spoiler:
the whole game never happens, it's all inside his head and when he finally wakes up from the coma the game ends and sets up the sequel.

Needs more polish but looks promising.

Gay, if I wanted to play a game as a guy in a coma tripping out, I'd just go to sleep.  No one even remembers the first Driver and people wish they didn't remember the later Drivers.  When I played Parallel Lines, that seemed ok I guess.  And if you ARE going to bring back an iconic character, what's the point if you're just going to say that he's in a coma and the whole game is a dream?  That takes away all dramatic possibilities there could have been.

Posted by generalen

Yes, the story seems shit. Yes, the graphics aren't Uncharted 2 or Crysis. But you know what? I don't care. Driver 3 was a piece of garbage, but I played the shit out of that game and loved every minute. Also, one hand drifting.
