What's wrong with pressing a button to choose a dialog response?

Posted by RVonE

Kinect. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-

Why does Mordin's voice sound off to me?

Posted by DarkWaterSong

I hope this is not infecting the PC version.

Posted by GodsMistakeXx

Hmm, Shepherd looks interesting...

I'm glad there finally putting in the females of the galaxies various races...  Well I at least hope they go further than just Female Krogan

While I think that using voice commands to navigate through menus is pretty useless (it's a lot faster to press a than to say "Press A"), squad commands through voice are kind of neat. But then again, I really don't like having to talk to my xbox, and the feature isn't neat enough for me to actually get a kinect.

The game looks great regardless, I love the increased mobility and talk of greater customization with skill trees and weapons.

What the hell happened to mordin's voice?
Posted by springtoast

This will actually sell at least one Kinect for Microsoft. When I saw this at the MS online stream, I decided I'd be buying a Kinect before this game comes out. Also the Ghost Recon weapon configurator helped seal the deal.

Posted by RVonE

Why does Mordin sound like bullshit?

And also, this segment seems to imply that Mordin is now reduced to cameo status. You know, like what they did with Wrex in ME2.

Posted by pakattak

@groin: Apparently buttons are the devil.

Although the squad commands are rather nice, the dialog commands are kind of immersion breaking.

And I've played the first to MEs on the PC, don't see why I'd change just for this.

Posted by altngr

Does anyone else find it strange how it gets you to say something, just so Shepard can say something completely different?  I know that's how Mass Effect has worked all along, but it seems like this Kinect system would work better with dialogue more like the first Dragon Age's.

Posted by DazzHardy

I'm actually kinda suprised there isnt a Dragon Age 2 style icon next to the dialogue choices. Say what you will about DA2, but those icon's made it much easier to make choices.

Posted by pubbles

This doesn't at all create any immersion, and is completely pointless. This just makes me not want a kinect, because all I've seen so far is the same, and that just doesn't interest me.

Posted by bobtastic715

Lol what? That actually seems interesting...not enough for me to go get Kinect, but still pretty interesting.

Posted by Matt_F606

If you use kinect with ME3 it should just come up with the script on screen and not have shepherd repeat it after you've said it. This current implementation of you say the cue and shepherd says something different makes no sense.

:(

How utterly... stupid.

Posted by PerfidiousSinn

The using voice commands to issue tactics in real time is cool. But really, you can't just use a headset for that? EndWar did it.

Posted by DG991

@groin: Yea...

Posted by haggis

I don't see anything wrong with it. Some people might prefer this. But I won't use it, and it's certainly not special enough to justify buying a Kinect. Other games have had voice commands in the past, and while they have their place, I never felt that they were used correctly. Giving squad commands, fine - that's what you'd do in real life anyway. But these dialogue options ... it doesn't add anything.

That said, the game is looking quite nice.

But. But. My Mordin is dead 3:

@springtoast: There are plenty of games that use these voice commands with a simple microphone/headset, without the need of a Kinect. This isn't innovative at all.
Posted by tourgen

Hmm I think I prefer the control wheel selector. If the go with voice input they maybe shouldn't voice shepard at all. It sounds weird having him paraphrase what the player just said.

I'm not saying it's innovative or new -- I'm just saying it will make my experience of ME3 a little better so I'll be going for it.

Posted by sensory

I don't know why everyone is complaining about Mordin's voice; he sounds the same to me.

And yeah great going Microsoft. Only you could ruin a demo of ME3 by shoving Kinect down our throats. Around 90% of the gamers who are going to be playing this couldn't give two shits about Kinect and this stage demo hasn't helped.

Posted by abdo
@springtoast: Don't worry, I wasn't putting words in your mouth. I meant it's a douche move to force people to get a Kinect just so they can enjoy this feature, when it can be done with the regular chat headset, and especially when it doesn't really take full advantage of Kinect's features. It doesn't justify getting one when all you'll be able to do is voice commands. Just my two cents.
Posted by Quacktastic

I hope this wasn't the real reason for delaying the game.

Posted by springtoast

@abdo: Actually it didn't occur to me at all that this feature could have been done with the Xbox 360 headset as far as hardware goes so thank you for that. Would be nice if ME3 had some actual camera features for Kinect, like hand gestures to command allies or to use abilities.

Imo, that's a bad thing. I like not knowing what's coming next, DA2 kinda spoiled everything.

I dunno, I quite like knowing that what I pick is what the characters going to say, or at least be along the same lines, not pick something that sounds like what I want them to say, only to have them fly off the handle and kick a guy out a window. To each their own I guess.

I agree to some degree on that point. x) There was a couple of things I didn't see coming when choosing a dialogue option. Maybe it would be better balancing it out, an icon showing when it's getting physical, but not much more. Haha.

@springtoast: The music and some of the voices are placeholder according to Bioware.

Music is from Arrival and Mordin clearly not voiced by mordin yet.

Posted by D_W

Wow that looks really silly. Why would you need a kinect to do that? You could just use a head set. Regardless it's easier and quicker to just press a button.

Posted by Do_The_Manta_Ray

"Kinnect; pay a 100 bucks or press A. The future is in your hands, and not in your standard head-set."

I'm very disappointed in Bioware. I liked DA2, not nearly as much as Origins, but still; and now their stage demos are kinnect commercials? Yep.. That's it. I'm beginning to distrust Bioware.. And this after years of faith.

The king is dead, long live the king! Long live CD Project Red!

Every conversation needs a permanent option to just say "Wrex." and get a "Shepard." response from whomever you're talking to.

Better yet, Wrex simply photobombs the conversation to reply.

Posted by Greenlight13

People are complaining that it doesn't say the same thing as you do, but that's true of the wheel system anyway. And if you don't like this Kinect voice option you simply don't use it.

This is still Mass Effect people. It's the full game, but with a small optional control scheme option laid over the top. Nothing has been ruined.

Posted by ultrapeanut

Holy wow, this is a genuinely horrible thing.

Posted by Gutlieb

I was hoping they would have upgraded the visuals a bit

Posted by Xpgamer7

I don't understand the hate. It's optional and for some people might be easier than a dialouge wheel and commands in the battlefield.

I believe because the kinect software includes the voice recognition, if it relied souly on a headset it would need it's own recognition within the game, as opposed to being supported by kinect etc.

I think this is neat, though anyone saying they have 'lost faith' needs to understand how retarded they sound when referring to a video game. It's voice commands guys, it's been in games before and it doesn't signal anything of the rest of the game's quality. No one is cheating you out of content, please stop making some of us feel bad for playing games and enjoying them.

Interesting, but I'd rather use the scroll wheel.
