E3 2011: Ryse Trailer

I love how some people are actually complaining about this. 
 
At Kinect Launch 
 
"Oh dearie me, Kinect is so casual. There ain't no kinect games for the 'hardcore'. Boo hoo hoo" 
 
When they announce a 'hardcore' kinect game 
 
"Oh dearie me, its a Kinect game. Boooring." 
 
I don't understand. I really don't. 
 
It looks cool. Wonder how movement is handled though. While I don't mind the Fable game being on rail, I really hope this one isn't.

Looked good until I realized it's a shitty kinect game.

From "hell yeah." to "hell no" in one trailer. Damn you kinect.

if LA Noire reinvents FMV games, I'm kinda interested to see how Kinect reinvents rail-like gameplay.

It looks good---as usual per Crytek.
 
But as noted by others: how do you sword fight without feed back?
Will kinect track my movements with enough accuracy?
How will the AI work? What will be considered a hit?
 Finally, I noticed some frame rate issues...

You're not using your limbs as strenuously as a real fighter, you're just swinging them like a kid in a park. Also the tracking only is for your head, arms, and legs making it more feasible than you'd think.

Still I wonder how you'll move or if it's just match after match.

I think it's safe to say by now that Crytek has a fetish for the letter "y".

I was getting sort of excited, and then I saw dude using the Kinect.

Interesting, could work, but they still will really need to resolve how to physically move around without a controller.  I also have to half-wonder how accurately the Kinect would read how one moves.  Seems like that'd make designing AI trickier than if it was just with a controller:  if the AI is that of a real swordsman, a gamer won't survive past the first fight.  Hope they do some developers' diaries on this. 

I don't really care about the game, I just want that's guy's living room. You know, all these trailers they've released for Kinect... I can't help but think that every single one of these would work better with Move. But maybe they've worked out a lot of the Kinect's jankiness by now, who knows. It doesn't seem like a major developer like Crytek would devote a ton of resources to a control scheme that was frustrating to use.

They've taken obvious ques from "Rome" the tv series in terms of visualization. Same colour palette, same scenography; which admittedly does look all kinds of wonderful. I was very impressed with this trailer until the fighting began. One guy close up, while the rest of the world seems to shrink back in the distance; leaving 1-on-1 duels.

If Kinect support is optional, I might be interested in this. But I think that ,at this point, we all know; big companies like Crytek don't make AAA titles that only the few Kinect owners will enjoy. It's too much effort spent with too little in return. The fact that it's Xbox only, with no PS3 move support clearly indicates that this will be another tech-demo that they're slapping a price-tag on.

Oh, Crytek.. First "Call of Crysis 2: Modern Perk System" and now this; I'm beginning to lose my trust in these guys.

A fun game that is actually physically demanding to the point where you can't sit and play it for hours at a time, could be a great thing.

That said, I'm skeptical about the fidelity of the controls as presented in this trailer. I've also never really understood the appeal of action games where you pretend to sword fight without actually holding a real object, or without receiving the feedback of hitting a real object.

damn this is sick! it looks sort of stiff though, like you're only stuck with one on one, would be cool to see if it was more dynamic, like you have a few people coming at you at once and you having to look around and block low/high.

This game is shit by definition since its a Kinect product.

I will finally be able to live out my fantasy of Sparta'ing dudes and feeling like a BAMF. Time to go buy a cape and invest in real life technology for slo-mo.

I liked this game more when I thought it was Okami during Roman times.

This is just flailing your arms around, not proper fighting with a guy on top of you and contact on the other end.

Sure you can kick and what not, but after about 5 minutes it seems that there is a warning telling me to stop playing Kinect otherwise I may die, so I guess it is not meant for long term use.

Could be amazing if the controls work as promised. More likely it will be an imprecise mess.

i can't wait for the video game violence lobyists to get a look at this. Actually making the motions of brutally murdering people is gonna go over well.

I have spastic paraparesis, I can't bend my leg that high to kick..... This is what motion gaming is doing to us. It's actually making games LESS accessible.

If they can make it not laggy, it could be great!

Hack and Slash games never appealed to me, not even Diablo.
