E3 2012: A Bevy of Belmonts in Beautiful 3D

Hopefully I can get this game but who knows maybe I will get the game since it looks really good.

It seems like we are kickin' it old school again. The cycle begins anew, but without the bishi.

Lords of Shadow was ok. About 10 hours too long, but ok. Purdy at least.

I'm curious to see how this game turns out. It's interesting to see they are actually sort of going back to original Castlevania fiction and picking and choosing how to incorporate it. I had a fanboy moment when Alucard showed up.

Plus, metroidvania? Sold. Except I don't have a 3DS.

@MormonWarrior: Terrible? Either you struggled with it or was expecting a 2d platformer. The game is very good. Highly recommend.

Nah. I'm guessing that Mirror of Fate will set up the appearance of Alucard, who then goes on to challenge his father in Lords of Shadow 2. Unless they go in a completely different direction with him, then:

@RockmanBionics: I agree with most of what you said. Maybe Marie's constant reassurance of Gabe's good-heartedness was meant to sway what he was to become - to talk him out of it? Whatever.

Lords of Shadow was freaking terrible...but I hope this turns out alright. I'd be totally fine with a 2.5D Metroidvania game, or whatever it turns out to be. Still trying to get through Ecclesia...

I sure hope a sprite based 2D one is in the works too...

I saw Simon; I was on board. I then saw Trevor; I was even more on board. Bring it on. Liked the alliteration, @Marino.

I believe the term we're supposed to use now is "equipment gated", or "ability gated". At least according to the Tomb Raider e3 press conference demos. "Metroidvania" is apparently too brand namey.

Cell-shaded Metroidvania? Damn the 3DS is getting good.

@Elazul: It is a metroidvania, according to Jeff on the sealed envelope episode of the bombcast.

Huh, I didn't even notice that at first but I think you're right, I guess that's a step in the right direction. It still pretty clearly doesn't control like the older games, but here's hoping it at least lets you explore like them.

It looks to be almost 2.5 in certain areas, all I know is that Gabriel got busy after losing Marie.

Alright, spoilers for this series I guess, since I'm gonna blurt out my thoughts on this.

This part may also be spoilers. From there it becomes a bit less contrived, Trevor is now Alucard I guess, that's fine. Simon is Trevor's son and they either communicate with each other through this mirror across the different eras or meet up once the latter becomes Alucard, maybe both. Alucard shows up again in LoS 2 so he definetly makes it out of this one.

Anyhow, putting way to much thought into this. I bet the last playable guy will be Richter, unless they decide to bring back Juste or something.

Shame this isn't on theVita instead. It would look so much better!!

@vinsanityv22: Got a couple hours in a year ago, and Act 2 was so damn long that seeing 11 or so acts made me go... maybe later.

Mirror of Fate takes place 25 years after the first game. It sounds more like the third game in the trilogy if you ask me. "Gabriel" (I refuse to spoil the ending) is all vampire in the second one (and it looks like Alucard arrives to fight him in Lords of Shadow 2's E3 trailer), but this third one establishes that Gabriel had a son - Trevor Belmont - who grows up and learns to be a warrior to take on his father. Hence the 25 year time skip. It seems like MercurySteam thought up an interesting backstory for the trilogy. It's going to be awesome to see how all three fit together; Lords of Shadow had a GREAT story.
