Kokoro vs Akira is a cool fight. Both using the same martial art and all. It's nice to see a bunch of new newly confirmed characters.

Silly.

Much more importantly than cameos in middling games, there are a lot of VF dudes in VF5:FS which is out now.

I haven't given a shit about DoA since the first one, but with VF dudes, crazy arenas, dynamic camera angles and no Itagaki... this has the potential to be really neat.

...Something about the faces in this game is really off-putting. Weirdly uncanny-valley. Really curious how it feels to play, because all the animation seems strangely reserved, down from the exaggerated, rapid-fire attacks and movements of the previous games. Ninja Gaiden 3 preorders got a demo, right? I haven't heard anyone's thoughts who have played it.

Maybe no one really cares enough - I know DOA is not taken seriously by fighting game enthusiasts, who are more likely to play it and put some thoughts up. I dunno, I'm not big on fighting games but I've liked DOA, so I just hope it's fun. NG3 doesn't have my hopes high.

DOA games aren't great. But I usually pick one up when I get a new system, because they do a great job of showing off the hardware. It will be interesting to see what the reception is, considering that this is the first time (is it?) that a DOA game comes out in the middle/end of a console lifespan.

I think DOA3 came just when the Xbox was at the end of its cycle so this would be the equivalent, I think this looks great and I'm looking foward to play it.

They just need to add the bonkers arenas from DOA into a mode in Virtua Fighter. That would be a better game.

Guess what? Just play Virtua Fighter and then you get the VF characters and a better fighter.

DoA 3 was pretty much a launch game (I think it came out a couple weeks post launch, atleast here), hence Alex_Murphy's point of people buying it because it usually looks amazing and shows off your shiney new system. Though DoA 3 turned me into a DoA fan.

Really? I could have sworn that I played DOA 2 Ultimate on the xbox, I guess 3 did come out soon after launch still it was a pretty good looking game.

Dead or Alive 3 came out not long after the Xbox's launch. Dead or Alive Ultimate came out in 2004 on the Xbox, which wasn't far off from the end of the console's lifespan.

@AjayRaz: Does it play alright? I know the demo's pretty old at this point, but I imagine it gave a decent taste. I was emboldened by Jeff's brief positive impressions on one of the E3 Bombcasts.

@TheBrainninja: i'm no expert on DOA game mechanics or anything (i'm just a big fan), but it plays pretty closely to how DOA4 played, i feel. the moves have the same inputs (consistency with moves throughout Dead or Alive games are weird) with some fancy new ones added in there. it's really hard to tell small differences without playing against a human player, really. with no online, or option to set the painfully easy AI to something more difficult, i haven't had many chances to try it with someone else.

but, to answer your question, it plays well. the fighting is fast and fun, and the cliffhanger moments are flashy but i figure they'll get old after a while. good thing you can turn them off. the demo isn't a great representation of the full game, however considering they've made some pretty significant changes to the game with aid from alpha build feedback from players. big changes like reintroducing the four-point counter system and changing when one can use the Power Blow (to trigger one of those crazy Cliffhanger moments).

i haven't finished the E3 bombcasts yet but any positive buzz for Dead or Alive 5 is great to hear, especially considering the embarrassing reputation that the series created for itself can be hard to see past.
