E3 2012: Gears Ain't Heroes

Well, after seeing the trailer I couldn't be less interested in this. Just another fucking Gears game, set a bit earlier in the same fucking war we just finished. Like, really? They couldn't even do a game about the earlier conflicts, prior to E-Day?

It doesn't even look like a different genre. Just same old 3rd party shooter Gears, judging from the quick shots of gameplay.

Not quite where I want the series to go but I love People Can Fly so this will still probably be a lot of fun.

Baird was always my favorite gear. I'll go for one more ride while I wait for the next generation of consoles.

I wouldn't be all that excited if not for that People Can Fly logo at the beginning. Those guys can do no wrong in my mind, but I'm one of the 5 people that bought Bulletstorm day 1 and loved it.

I'd be MORE excited with Painkiller: Black 2 but the painkiller name is probably too run into the ground with shovelware at this point.

I can't say this is the most interesting thing they could have done with Gears, but I still love the franchise and People Can Fly, so I'm looking forward to this. Hopefully theres more to it than just being another Gears.

Good. Dom was one of the worst characters ever. Baird was a fucker, but at least interesting.

Baird & Cole are such a much more likeable than Marcus & Dom were. Baird in particular I've always liked; Fred Tatasciore is a brilliant voice actor, and he's, for better or worse, plenty good at playing as sarcastic a-holes. Plus I love Baird's stubble of smug; it's the complete opposite to Dom's grief beard for Gears 3.

Give me more Gears and I will play it.

I love gaming, but I can only take so much shooting shit. This E3 seems to be even more rife with shit-shooting than ever.

@Meatsim: based on the gameplay in that trailer its going to be some gears ass gears.

I loved the Gears of War trilogy, especially the third one. I think Gears 3 set a new high bar for story telling in games. But this is not the direction I expected the seres to go in. I figured there would be a hiatus at least until the next generation Xbox was out, and I expected to see something set much earlier or much later in the timeline.

However, from the description on the GB wiki page (that the story is told through flashbacks from Baird's trial, and that you can play the campaign a second time where Baird remember's things differently!) and from the very close release date, I suspect that this game is a release to keep the Gears franchise alive for the remainder of the 360's live span, and that we will see a more interesting Gears game on the next gen.

I waited until now to play and complete the GoW3 campaign. It's pretty damn awesome. Not sure why there's seemingly so much hate in these comments. I could see this being an interesting addition to the GoW back-story. For example, I'm pretty sure Baird is just a corporal in the GoW trilogy, but here is lieutenant, which by my reckoning is a fairly major demotion (no pun intended).

If this brings a bit more of the story, a bit of People Can Fly's craziness (Bulletstorm was massively underrated IMO) and another reason to get into the muliplayer (GoW3 Horde mode is probably the most fun I've had on XBL all year), it will likely end up on my shelf no matter how old my console is.
