E3 2012: PlayStation All-Stars is All in the Mind

I have no idea how they were able to buy the ability to make this game... Obviously they had some sort of deal with Nintendo... or how much it cost them lol

For people who want Crash and Spyro: It's not gonna happen. Both are now owned by Activision and out of Sony's control. They'd have to pay Activision a hell of a lot of money just to have them in one game.

The again it is possible. The game isn't going to be exclusively first-party characters. The devs have stated this by planning to have James Bond in the game. Though I would rather they not do this and fill up slots with 3rd party characters and draw from their own library from the last few decades,

This looks freaking awesome. Can't wait to see what other characters they have in store, and for the game itself.

@emergency: I agree. I think people are bringing up the smash bros similarities because the genre is underpopulated; whereas, there are so many shooters/platformers/traditional fighters/RPGs/whatever else that it doesn't seem like a wholesale rip off when a new one comes out.

Well, it's not entirely like Smash Bros. For example, it'll be way more obnoxious and there will be social or Move features that we'll all ignore. However, on the plus side, you won't have to get a WiiU for it.

Kain and Raziel need to be in this as well as solid snake.

It's clearly taking a lot of elements from smash bros. but I think that's a good thing. I'm looking forward to it and I'll be interested to see what characters they announce next.

Yeah his moves seem funny. It looks like one of his basic moves is hiding behind cover that magically materializes and shooting people. Two of his supers appear to be throwing a propane tank and pushing over a giant column. I hope all the character's moves are just as wacky and character specific.

I wasn't looking forward to this game previously, but the gameplay I've seen looks pretty fun. I think once the initial shock of "Oh my god, this is a blatant rip off of SSB" wears off, people may give this a chance. Its pretty amazing that someone hasn't copied the super successful SB formula already, it's pretty much in its own little sub genre.

While not as well known, Playstation can put together a pretty motley crew for a roster. The odd inclusion of Big Daddy has me excited too, he opens the door to a whole slew of third party characters, why not?

Also, I don't want this game to be anywhere near Brawl. Brawl was a piece of contemptuous game design deserving little of its alarming volume of praise. PSASBR appears to be designed thoughtfully, which already makes it leagues better.

you cant be serious, I'm nit much of a fan of brawl myself but its praised for a reason, its simple gameplay is easy enough for a child to play but there is a hidden depth which lends itself to tournament play, you are saying nintendo deserve no praise for this while also claiming that santa monica should be lavished in it when you havent played this yourself on the basis of a character announcement trailer.

Maybe it will be great but now is not the time to judge.

This is crap, I always knew they would do this. Anyways at least put more characters from the past. Like Crash, Midevil character and much more... Big Daddy? Game sold more on the 360 and pc.

That was pretty sick, I'm not going to lie.

If you really think about it this game is prettty different from smash bros. It just looks the same visually.

We don't know the game's full roster yet. A character like parappa is a sign that they may also be bringing the other classic characters as a way to reintroduce them and revive them. At a press conference on tv you can't show obscure classic ps1 characters, they have to show more recent characters that people can remember such as Kratos, Sweet Tooth, Nathan Drake, etc.

I haven't had any interest in the Smash Bros franchise in a long time, and I was first in line when it came to saying "Sony's characters would just not work" but, y'know, that looked pretty interesting.

I don't understand. This game could be Sonys way of bringing back dead franchises. They could bring back Tomba, Sir Daniel Fortesque, Blasto, Jersey Devil; you name it! Sony has a MASSIVE library of characters and IP's why wouldn't they take this opportunity to revive them and let people rediscover them?

I had a chance to play this with some other people at E3. It's... really, really similar to Smash Bros. But still fun.

Bioshock's Big Daddy didn't really strike me as representative of "PlayStation". I'm not sure if the whole roster was available. We played with Sly Cooper, Nathan Drake, Big Daddy, and Killzone Dude.

I think PlayStation is forgetting that console exclusives have pretty much died out in the last few years and need to go back to the original PS to find characters because back then they had dozens and most are still pretty well loved.

Looks better than Smash Bros, and I'm sure online will be much better.

Random character I'd like to see? Sir Dan from MediEvil. I never really got far in that game or it's sequel, but I always liked the look of the guy, and he'd fit right in.

Ok, that trailer got me pumped. Jeff's right, if they really go with this it could be nuts.

So Nathan Drake just looks silly...so perhaps the Solid Snake of this game perhaps? Nolan North rattling off crazy one liners in the middle of combat would get a purchase out of me.
