E3 2012: Randy Pitchford is Excited About Aliens on Wii U

What isn't Randy Pitchford excited about? That's why we love him.

So did anyone else just come here to see if the Wii U control was going to be acting as a motion sensor?

So is it a bad thing that he's excited and happy to talk about his games? I don't think so, even if he over sells a bit sometimes. But then again, what company CEO or head producer etc wouldn't be happy to talk about their creation?

I find it extremely weird that Gearbox has done so much positive advertising for Nintendo's new console, but they're not even working on the Wii U version of Aliens. It's their buddies at Demiurge handling the Wii U version, who helped out with outsourcing for Borderlands and ported Brothers in Arms to Wii. It's just ...weird.

oh man I'm so excited I can't wait to have to look off the screen at my radar, and also play a hacking minigame

Smart glass doesnt seem to be compatible with games...only internet browsing :I To be compatible with games developers would have to spend effort which theyre not gonna be willing to do. Different with Wii U cos the tablet comes with it. Anyway the whole thing is obviously an attempt to rip-off Wii U, but its extremelly half-arsed and i doubt it will be popular or successful. I mean, wtf is the point in using your tablet to browse web on xbox 360. That is the most convoluted idea ever...

3-5 hours is what I heard. Also, I believe you can use it while charging so the news isn't as bad as it sounds.

I think that's pretty abysmal for a console controller, I'll need a pretty long lead for it to reach the Wii-U from my sofa so charging it while playing is probably not going to happen. I guess this is how they are keeping costs down, I don't think sacrificing battery life this much is a great idea.

The battery life info is from Nintendo's Japan site, so it's true. It also takes 2.5 hours to fully charge the controller. Hope that charging cable is long!

I was really let down overall by this E3. I was excited to get more info on the WIIU and it's "capabilities" but it seems clear now that we are just getting yet another gimmick from nintendo. I think the screen is cool and all but it seems completely superficial and shallow.

shame on Sony & Microsoft for showing almost nothing but sequels and prequels.

I am super excited for watchdogs and the last of us and a handfull of games that show alot of promise. i wish the new systems would just be announced allready.

and for the record microsoft and nintendo...these times in gaming will be looked back on with disbleief and be referred to as the "gilded age of gaming" I dont need my game machine to work with streaming social media movie tablet twitter pads. I just need it to be a rock solid gaming machine!

Cheap lazy gimmicks all over again - Just like on the DS or the Wii. Apart from some first party games no one will actually use this in innovative ways. "Put the map there, put the inventory there, put some shitty hacking minigame there and use LOTS of art at the borders to fill all that space". Calling for the squad powers and weapon change interface in ME3 to be on the pad. Oh and the hacking of course. And then I ask myself - "Would I rather lie on the couch and play with a traditional controller while looking at the TV screen only or have to sit up to look at and touch the controller at the same time". I would prefer the former and already did with the Wii - classic controller all the way.

As with anything on the Wii U's controller so far, all I can say is, it could be interesting. Meaning, not enough to make me want it though. I do think it looks OK. I definitely want Aliens: Colonial Marines, and if I get a Wii U, I may pick it up on that.

They may have well made the whole system for this game...
