i really liked how brutal this was

You could feel the weight of the punches. Just UNHHHH.

Best game of E3 for me.

Posted by Hector

Whats up with the players. It sometimes comes to a complete stop and I have to start up the video manually.

Posted by metalsnakezero

So much impact in this few minutes of gameplay. Looking forward to it.

Agreed

Really disturbing cheering at times, I know this was a stage demo but I thought there would be less of the body count dissonance in the last of us.

Posted by forkboy

The rapturous applause at a guy shooting another guy in the face from 6 inches with a shotgun does sort of make you pause for a second & think about games.

But only a second.

Posted by Saltank

Excellent presentation, no annoying shots of the tough-guy gamer dude with a wide foot stance.

And, finally a game where realism really sinks in.

Posted by rramo010

Good to see this game doesn't focus entirely on the "zombies"

Posted by ImaTreee

wow this looks epic

Posted by AngelN7

Man if this thing doesn't come out this year I'm gonna I'm gonna! Grab something AND!...

Posted by Sporkbane

This and watchdogs really blew me out of the water. Wish this wasn't a ps3 exclusive!

Posted by Zrais

This game is gonna hurt to play...hurt in an awesome way.

Posted by Tommy

Can't tell if the game will be this good but the demo itself is very cool.

Posted by Dry_Carton

Why does the 10 year old have a voice like an adult?

Posted by atax1c

Awesome demo.

Posted by huser

Still totally stoked about this game. But just like I felt during the Sony conference, still some cognitive dissonance here. Can't help rooting for the dudes trying to stop the home invader from killing all of them.

Posted by Ghostiet

This looks fucking awesome.

I really love how we finally reached the moment where animations look so lifelike with Max Payne 3, Watch Dogs and this.

She underwent redesign. Ellie looks much younger and more petite than in the story trailers.

Posted by Bob_Loblaw

Great demo. I was struck by how natural and dynamic and plain flat out bad-ass it was when Ellie nails the guy with the housebrick.

Posted by Zleunamme

The guy pulling things out his backpack to manage his inventory is neat. The crowd cheering after the guy getting shot in the face with a shotgun is a little disturbing. I wonder if missing shots was part of the realism or Naughty Dog still hasn't mastered gun play.

Wow.. This game looks freakn incredible!

I think it's realism. When Joel takes the human shield, he is actively trying to interrupt him when he tries to aim.

HEY! ASSHOLE!

Man, awesome demo.  If i was in that situation i'd hate to be traveling with a little girl since it just means more danger.  Every roving band of  dickwads would want her for ...obvious reasons and  I would have to defend her or leave her which would really be despicable.

Couldn't leave her behind of course, I wonder how they will approach this with the male character and how he feels about it, since it seems like he'll be a loner for some time before he meets Ellie

This game looks great. Also, that guy sounds a whole lot like Nolan North.

Posted by shishkebab09

This demo blew me away. Not just what happened, but what didn't happen. What if he hadn't run out of ammo and had shot the guy while he was still in cover? Ellie would have still had the brick. What if he hit the shotgun guy with the molotov instead? The shotgun melee would never have happened. What if he didn't shoot the guy begging for mercy? I can't wait to see how dynamic the gameplay turns out to be, and if it's at the level it appears to be, the voicework REALLY brings it to life.

I think Sony won this year......

Posted by Evil_Alaska

I loved what I saw, but I'm so fucking sick of zombies and will wait to see how much they are in the game before I form a real opinion.

Posted by BlatantNinja23

the girl wouldn't have had to thrown that rock if the guy wasn't so awful at shooting..... oh wait, I see what you did there naughty dog

What the hell are you talking about? They're bandits raiding the building for supplies. At this point in the game you've probably been assaulted so many times that you don't take chances when you come across a group of no good thieves.

Posted by AngelN7

@Mercer: I'm pretty sure Naughty Dog will handle their relationship in a good way they had the experience with Drake and Sully so I can see Joel taking the father/big brother role after he meets Ellie.

Posted by Arkasai

Little details are pretty amazing, like when he hits the guy's head against the table, the drawers pop out, the lamp falls off, and the phone falls of the receiver. Dialogue seems very Uncharted-like same goes for the level design, but both of those were great in Uncharted so no complaints.

Troy Baker sure beat the crap out of Liam O'Brien.

Who exactly are they robbing? Are the protagonists no good thieves when they inevitably loot (there appeared to be an inventory and crafting system) apartment complexes, grocery stores, etc? As far as you know when the demo'er starts killing fools the other guys might be anyone. Especially since they get jumped first. That they happen to look like some other dudes..well unless that's the drabbest army/gang in the world I don't see anything specifically marking them as antagonists other than they exist. Which would be fine, but I think you needed more connective tissue if you wanted that conveyed rather than you are playing some sociopath strangling people at the first opportunity.

I was under the impress that this was a 2013 title. If it wasn't they certainly would have dropped the release date at the end of the demo.

I get why they did it regarding a demo needing that climactic end, but yeah I was actually put off by it. Not even necessarily for the violence, but just, hey you don't have bullets for your revolver, you have a shotgun and one dude on his ass begging for his life who's been stabbed, and kicked in the head. Wasting what is basically a strategic resource in a post apocalyptic wasteland by a guy who is clearly an accomplished survivor seems dumbly OoC (weird given how little we know of the character, but such is how weird it actually was).

Posted by PrivateIronTFU

That was brutal.

So you play as Nathan Drake....

Except the guy looks totally different and has a different voice actor. Other than that, yeah you're playing as Nathan Drake.

Posted by Aarny91

The only thing I can say is: I can't wait.

Posted by JTB123

That combat looked really awesome, I just hope it's a little more dynamic that it appeared to be. Really liked him taking off his backpack to create stuff, that was a nice touch.

Actually makes me regret not having a PS3.

Watching the demo again, the dudes Joel ends up killing have dialogue about looking for "the girl," so there is probably some nasty history here. I'm personally hoping there's some non-violent routes available, at least at times, but, as far as justification, a rapey band looking for a 12 year old seems pretty kill worthy in video game terms.

Looks awesome. I'd look to see how it actually controls.

Why not? Exclusives are great.

Posted by Zombie_Shakespeare

Shit.

This game looks fantastic. The way the take-downs seem like Joel is genuinely struggling to keep them still and quiet; the way that when he was using a human shield, his aim was thrown off; the way the melee combat looks and feels; just, everything. I mean, I know that there's usually some trickery in the trailers and gameplay demos, but goddamn. It looks like it feels great to play.

I wish I had a PS3. I really do. This is the first game that's made me go beyond 'oh, well, maybe someday' to 'fuck, I need a PS3'.

Posted by SpecDotSign

Two things that blew me away. The scenery when they're outside. My goodness does that look gorgeous and very similar to a certain metropolitan area where I live and am familiar with (New York City).

And when Joel bashes the dudes head on the corner of that table. Realistically brutal.

Oh, and well Ellie threw that brick I thought to myself, "chick has an arm!"

Listen around 2:45 and you'll hear this conversation...

"That tourist put up a hell of a fight"

"Yeah, took two of us to put em down."

"Mm, how many is that now?"

"Five just this week."

"Hey I'm not complaining."

Hardly seems like the conversation that a group of great guys would be having, don't you think? Keep in mind this is also just a snippet of gameplay, they could have seen this group at some point earlier in the game.
