Wow, didn't think the child soldier stuff would affect me that much, but that AK scene was legit disturbing. I hope half the team doesn't end up on anti-depressants by the end of development.

Even if they feature child soldiers they still won't allow us to shoot kids. Best just not to feature them at all if they are going to be so immersion breaking

I'm glad new consoles are coming out so that PC graphics will get better. What need have I to upgrade my graphics card? Pretty much none.

I think Kojima has finally accomplished his dream of making his version of James Bond as a video game. This game looks really cool and I think kiefer does an all right job as snake.

Anyway, boycotting video games is the stupidest thing regardless of your reason. Also, many people would tell you MGS2 (or Mass Effect 2 for that matter) was the tipping point and that you're kind of crazy to think MGS4 (or ME3) could've been a good game at any point.

SH2 HD is a remake. Phantom Pain is a sequel. Different things. Recasting in some remaster is retroactively changing the foundation of the character. The other is evolving the character. Big Boss in Metal Gear 1 and Big Boss in MGS3 are the same person, yet at the same time fundamentally different. Phantom Pain looks like he is coming into being as "evil" Big Boss.

I understand people being bummed about it, but going so far as to boycott the game over it? Ridiculous. MGS4 was my tipping point and now I just enjoy the series casually. So to me, it's like seeing people love Mass Effect 3 and then in Mass Effect 4: The Phantom Pain they don't have Jennifer Hale and people go "NOW THAT IS MY TIPPING POINT THIS FRANCHISE HAS BEEN RUINED!" despite the fact that the game looks amazing.

@kevin_cogneto: It's the same debate that happened when the Silent Hill collection came out. Troy Baker is without a doubt a better actor than whoever voiced James when SH2 first came out, but by changing the voice you are changing the character, and what boggles my mind is that people don't get how it's a bummer for some of us.

Man, Keifer Sutherland is so much of a better actor than David Hayter it's not even funny. The fact that people are still against the change in casting boggles my mind.

It's less harsh than people dismissing a game based solely off a voice actor. At least I played MGS4 to be able to shit talk it.

Also which character? Solid Snake or Big Boss? They may have been virtually the same in MGS3, but clearly from the dark shit that goes on in this trailer, Big Boss is far from an older Solid Snake. I think Hayter's voice would just undercut whatever emotional drama that Kojima might be trying to make. His Old Snake voice certainly did that in MGS4 as well as Otacon's actor's fake crying over Naomi in MGS4.

Also does someone having a big name make their voice acting automatically generic? Unless we get long segments of Snake talking, I don't think we can fully judge. But going solely off of this trailer, I think he does a great job thus far.

Kojima stated he wants to do just that with this one, pushing the boundaries of what people are willing to do/portray in video games to the point he himself fully expects to "upset" some people with this one. It would be nice if more studios were willing to do the same.

I don't really care about the Metal Gear "fiction", I just like the character and the dumb stuff Kojima does with him. The voice was like 80% of that character for me, it's a huge bummer to hear a generic hollywood voice coming out of that dude's mouth.

I think Kiefer sounds perfect as Snake. He's got the right mix of "tough guy" edge to his voice while still sounding like a person. Hayter eventually sounded like a cartoon.

You can hate Kojima all you want, but you have to admit he usually does stuff way ahead of his time.

Cause he's the only person with the balls and the power to treat ridiculous craziness utterly seriously. Or should all military games have boring generic stories with forgettable characters whose only emotion is stoic blandness?

Kiefer Sutherland's Snake voice is actually good. All you loyalists should have stopped giving a shit about canon and tradition after MGS4 shit the bed with that series, even more so with Peace Walker. Getting a new voice actor is a step forward in wiping the series clean of the shit stain that MGS4 left on the series. This may sound harsh coming from a former die hard fan of the series, but MGS4 was the Mass Effect 3 of the series for me. So they can do whatever the fuck they want with it.

If you listen to the Bombcast, I'm pretty sure they have all been negative. They did like it in the past, but recently it's not been talked about with love. It's really weird.

From what I can remember MGS4 was universally loved around the GB office so I don't know where you're getting that from.

I'm the same. Metal Gear is my favourite franchise. There's an instant disconnect in my mind, seeing but not hearing Snake.

I'd accept it if they announce Solid/Hayter is in the game. Two different voices make sense. If they've just shit-canned him for the bigger name, i'll pass. My loss.

Why the fuck is Kojima still being allowed to make games?

I know for a fact that left and right wing groups (primarily media) are both going to go after this one because of the torture of a woman, the child soldiers, and the whole holding intestines in thing. And that's just from this trailer. No matter how anti-war and anti-nuclear armament MGS is won't matter, they'll both go after it to gain publicity and further their bullshit causes like the hypocrites they are. They can say their piece while simultaneously trying to prevent something else from saying it's piece.

To them I say, "Guess what assholes, war isn't supposed to be a nice thing. Ever. Women do get tortured. Children are forced to be soldiers. People do have their guts hanging outside of their bodies. Get your heads out of your asses, but before you do check your tonsils... lord only knows you can see them."

As for the trailer the game looks amazing. As always. Every MGS game looks amazing. An absolute day one buy. Simple as that. But I see fake outrage on the horizon.

@boozak: Man, I hope so. On a more positive note, this does look like the first Metal Gear to perhaps have proper gameplay; where moving the character around, fighting and shooting might actually be fun unto itself instead of just being a sub-par, perfunctory activity between 20 minute cinematics.

Like the last 4 installments of the franchise I've played. Ok, maybe that wasn't as positive as I thought it would be.

I don't know how Hideo Kojima and his team do it. Each generation they put out a game that looks so beyond anything else. This trailer blows every game at E3 out of the water. Does he have a time machine? Is he a Time Lord?!

Fucking love this. So the series can become crazier i see.

@hashbrowns: Kojima claims this game is tonally different from the other games, whether that's true or not who knows. But that was part of his justification as to why he chose Kiefer Sutherland to replace David Hayter.

So we're offered painstakingly rendered graphic violence, torture, child-soldiers... seems like real gritty, serious story-telling.

Until of course Kojima graces us with up-skirt shots, genital groping and uncontrollable bouts of diarrhea. You know, Hideo Kojima's idea of what's funny.

I wish he would pick a tone for his games. Mixing serious issues with the most juvenile anime tropes gets on my nerves in a serious way. I feel like he has a team of wildly talented people whose efforts are being wasted on his material. He might have a great eye for quality in other fields, but he's the George Lucas of game story-telling.

I didn't expect it to be so good, actually got a bit of legit goosebumps for a moment there. No matter how awesome this game looks I know I probably won't enjoy playing it that much (as was true for me for all Metal Gear Solid games), but damn am I looking forward to the hopefully inevitable Chip Cheezum Let's Play of this game.

Oh fuck! FUCK!!! That made me feel more disgusted than the Saw films. I'm... I'm not even sure that people who played the previous games could stomach that. The MGS series has never had grit like that, has it?
