E3 2013: Minecraft Now 8 Gigs of RAM

If you were frustrated by the small spaces in the Xbox 360 Edition, that probably won't be an issue in the Xbox One Edition.

Voxel One. If Minecraft came bundled with the machine that might take some sting off the pricetag. ;)

I've always liked that Steve is just Steve in all MC trailers, much like The Shepard. You can dress him up or down (please don't), but he's always "Your Steve".

Ah, finally, playing Minecraft with the amount of RAM my 3-year-old laptop came with. RIP that laptop.

I guess that's a valid opinion but this is a very smart move on Microsoft's part. MC on XBox is extremely popular, and even though it sucks if people have to buy it again to continue playing on XboxOne, my guess is the number of people willing to do that, especially if saves carry over, performance is improved, and they continue updating the game regularly, is in the millions. I'm one of them.

When I saw this pop up in the conference, my first reaction was...

Yeah, HAT Films!

Hell yeah! I knew it right away. So happy for those gents.

Trucks full of money. Many trucks. Just backed up into Notch's driveway.

Probably money well spent by Microsoft. Minecraft is insanely popular with young kids, and they don't really care about DRM or whatever, just games.

You don't show a game like Minecraft at your next gen console launch, it's just absurd to me. Same with them showing off yet another indie 2D platformer. *barf*

I thought, all things considered, they had a pretty good showing overall. A variety of titles, a variety of genres represented, and a fair few interesting exclusives. Of course Sony could still blow them out of the water, but objectively I think Microsoft showed well.

Well, 5 GB of RAM, actually. MS engineers confirmed that 3 GB is used for the OS.

I think Minecraft could gain a lot from a port to the Xbox One. Remember how bad the graphics were in the 360 version?

I still think the PC version is far superior. The endless customizable skins, mods, texture packs and huge online servers. If thats not in the XBOX One version, why bother? They need to find a way to add that for free and not charge for skins or things like that. If they do then maybe I'll try it out. But until then I'll continue to play minecraft on my PC.

About three months ago I posted on a YouTube video of Minecraft:

"They should really carry Minecraft over to the next generation. With 512 MB of RAM, it's no wonder the Xbox 360 can't handle more than two chunks at once. Let's try it with 8 Gigs."

Guess Microsoft thought the same.

You mean 5GB because 3 is reserved for the OS.

Woo hoo.

It still won't be modable like the PC version, which means it's useless. I can't imagine why I'd go back to playing old vanilla minecraft again.

Another fantastic example of why a NEW SYSTEM is not needed, at all. I remember back in the day when a new system was introduced because developers pushed the last gen system to it's maximum constraints.

They released a new system, and showed games which were just mindblowing, where you were like, holy shit, this is the next generation of a video game.

Showing minecraft for this system, is the perfect example of what has happened to game development. When you are shown games which could have come out of the previous generation of hardware, what is the point.

(This applies to all the "normal games" shown for xbone so far...not minecraft, I'm just using minecraft as a gateway into my speal)

However, speaking more towards minecraft and other PC ports to a console....when are developers going to start considering a console == to a PC, this generation maybe? Maybe can we have console ports of PC games (minecraft, diablo, terraria, etc..) just as good as the original PC version? No smaller maps, no limited gameplay. The same f'cking game, for the console.....

And nobody gives a fuck since the PC version runs with 64 fucking gb of ram if you want.; but for some reason console noobs are impressed by 8gb what ever welcome to 2008 PC ram levels.

So they're going to make us pay for Minecraft again? And more likely, not be able to carry over current world saves or anything of the sort? No thanks.

@freedomtown: sorry, but you're being willfully obtuse or suffering from major confirmation bias. No way 90% of the games shown at the press conference could appear on current gen without a severe graphical downgrade at the very least.

@cubical: It is impressive when very few games take advantage of RAM and 64 gigs certainly isn't common place.
