E3 2014: Doom is an Unholy Union of Flesh and Metal

Per usual this is a cool looking pre-rendered trailer but as Brad said on one of the streams, this tells us absolutely nothing about the game. I have to admit a reveal for a reveal is kind of annoying but I'd be lying if I said I was interested in figuring out what this game actually is.

I'm would say it's going to be a let down but after Rage it can only be better right? Eh, whatever, I'll play the beta at least and hope for some run and gun action. It's gonna be hard to beat Wolfenstein: New Order though. I won't lie.

I don't know why, but having the machinery there makes me feel like this is Quake mixed with Doom. I'm not going to be satisfied until I see gameplay.

This game is gonna kick so much ass.

They should invest a tonne of resources into make blood splatter realistic. So few shooters get that aspect, and Doom would utilise that so well.

...let me be clear... ...I don't need cutting edge graphics... ...I want to run a zillion miles an hour with 100 imps (all throwing fireballs) after me... ...and, yes @somedelicook I want co-op too (but chickens would be a good bonus)...

...think I need to dig out two of my copies of DOOM (I must have at least 4 or 5 around here) and play a campaign with my wife... :-)

I liked Rage and Wolfenstein a whole lot. Take the gunplay from that, make it a pure, insane shooter with minimal story, and I'm very down.

Especially considering that we recently had some good shooters that have proven that old school style FPS action can be great fun even in this day and age, when done right. Shadow Warrior and Wolfenstein.

See i used to be a huge FPS fan. My dwindling interest can be tracked almost exactly concurrent with the slow decline of the average run speed of the player character and enemies in the newer games.

uhhhh, classic doom door open sound is enough..... but really can I circle strafe and defeat the cyber demon with just a pistol?

Seriously this is all they have to do and I'll probably buy it on two or three platforms. The wait for a true doom sequel has been far too long.

I want to walk at 22mph, run at 45mph and strafe at 50mph. You can't do corridors with movement speed like that.

I know its not a lot... but I am in.

Here's hoping for some high-speed action in this one. Doom 3 was a fun game, but just too slow for the Doom name.

There, I just designed the Doom game, someone slap together some art assets and animations and we're done.

Original Doom had 100% auto-aim on the y axis. That has a lot to do with why it was very playable with gamepads and keyboards before people figured out WASD+mouse.

Makes me happy I decided to snag a seat this year and not skip. Giantbomb should definitely send a crew.

Hope one of the loading screen tips will be Shoot the Cyberdemon Until It Dies.

This game better be all about fighting rooms full of uncomfortable amounts of enemies and not walking down dark hallways.

K,. Fast movement, free aim, no iron sights, no SRSBZNS plot. Then i'm in.

Just don't make Doom in to a modern console auto-aim travesty with slow walk speed and we're good.

I really hope the old-school Doom sound effects in this trailer imply that they're getting back to their roots in the ways that matter. Running around in a blur, dodging fireballs, and blasting the shit out of everything in a spectacle of ultraviolence that frightens the media.

Also, Ultraviolence as a difficulty setting (which of course adds more enemies, rather than just making the enemies stronger.) And the bodies never disappear.

...Doom is such a great game.
