get ready to buy a bunch of cool new toys!
(that are not compatible with nintendo's next system)

I wonder how big those chips actually need to be. It would be interesting to know if those stands need to be that thick for the chip, or if they could be thin enough to put on cards or something. Would make for some neat uses of table-top games with a video game console if that were the case.

Dumb.

Unlike the Skylanders, I would totally buy a Mario and Link figurine, even if I never use them as they're meant to be used.

Damn it.

It's funny seeing all the middle-aged people (not here necessarily, but elsewhere online) saying "Ugh, toys? That's lame! Amiibos are just a Skylander ripoff! Only kids would like that! So dumb!"

It's like they all transformed into bratty eight-year-olds saying things like "Nintendo is too kiddy! Pikmin is just a Pokeymans ripoff! So lame!!! Only babies would like marios!"

Looks interesting, but as always, Nintendo wins the award for worst naming ability. I mean, Amiibo?

That... opening...

the paint quality and plastic on them is really poor.

Exactly what I was thinking.

You could definitely put them in (slightly thick) plastic cards; some credit cards already use basically this technology. For kids toys I think they want something sturdier (because bending the card can ruin the chip inside). Also putting the chip in the stand (vs. in the figurine itself) helps make it easy to line it up properly for the user (since it's the same everytime).

If you wanted cards that could be shuffled comfortably, you'd probably go with QR codes over NFC (though you lose the ability to write to the thing); probably this has actually been done before.

The tone of this was really bizarre... It's feels like it's directed to kids but the without any energy. It's like I was just pitched NFC toy collectables by Steve Buscemi circa Treeslounge.

Guys, Smash bros Amiibos matches are going to be used for amazing drinking games.

WHERE THE FUCK ARE MY EARTBOUND FIGURINES

Posted by Dark_Lord_Spam

So they're AI? I guess that makes the stat increases less balance-breaking, but it also means they're way less interesting (at least in Smash Bros.).

Not launching with a pokemon game? Good move nintendo!

Hmm, I wonder... maybe Nintendo wants to show us that they were once a toymaking company and still has some toys for us to get while gaming their games. At any rate, those are pretty highquality stuff but I got a weird feeeling this is going to be expensive. Hopefully not too much. Heck, if they are only a bit pricey, I'd get a few! I haven't gotten many things like that. These would be a nice addition on my bookshelf as well. As I said, they're pretty well-made.

Well, thank goodness it's only for the Wii U (which I don't have). Otherwise, I'd be too tempted to bu-

"[...]releasing a peripheral allowing you to use Amiibo figures with your 3DS games[...]"

Nintendo, you motherfuckers.

Is it just me, or is Nintendo way too late to the party?

I haven't even heard that much about Disney Infinity, and that has a huge advantage with featuring Disney characters... How well is that doing? I don't even see that many toys for it... Certainly not on the scale of Skylanders...

Memory cards? Fuck that! Individual character saves that cost $20....

Balance made Smash Bros a great brawler... now they destroyed even that game.... smh.
