I'm a little disappointed that only raiden's hat seems to change, was hoping for more.

I find this disappointing. I thought each character would come with unique appearance and abilities for each version of them. Like you'd get a masked subzero, unmasked sub-zero and a cyborg sub all with different skillset. Or a Scorpion in MK1 outfit without swords vs fancy new scorpion with swords. Old Johnny Cage vs Young Johnny Cage.

This thing where it's just Raiden who looks identical regardless of skillset is just dumb. He might as well have all the powers then instead of splitting it up.

Unlike some people here I think this will be great. Can't wait for the final game.

... I'll give them the benefit of the doubt since MK9 was so good, but this 3 styles thing seems like the worst idea for the series I've heard since the awkward transition to 3D in MK4. Not saying anything that hasn't already been said, but this reeks of always playing as 1/3rd of a character.

When I first heard about this I was hoping maybe it would just be past and present versions of characters or something. Young Cage would be faster, old Cage would hit harder or whatever. But this video just makes it look like an overcomplicated version of "OK, pick the 3 special moves you like."

It'd be nice if it was balanced, but in reality their will always be tiers. Anyway, I play Marvel, so I'm used to a little bit of unbalance gameplay...or a lot.

Lookin' good. The three variants for each character'll will hopefully add some new depth to the game. Even my wife is excited for a new Mortal Kombat game.

MK9 is still a decent game, no need for this IMO.

Kotal Kahn is the best fighting game character name I've heard in a while.

Like the different build idea, though I can't help but imagine that some are going to be seen as more powerful than others. I can't wait to see what the story mode looks like in this game, though.

I'm a little bit confused by this - wouldn't it just be better if the character had all the moves from the 3 subsets? It's basically like having 3 different characters in 1.

So three distinct fighting styles? Man this thing is going to be a nightmare to get into. I just don't have the time anymore for some of these fighting games. :(

I'm with the people who are a bit skeptical about the 3 variants-per-character thing. Will it be balanced, or will there wind up being one definitive version of each character while the other two are total garbage? Will everyone ultimately feel gimped with a partial move list? I hope that it works out, because it does seem kinda neat.

Will get the game regardless, as I loved me some MK9. I hope that Smoke survived the massacre :(

I'd always thought Raiden said, "WHERE IS YOUR MOMMY?" whenever he used the voice file. This game looks pretty sweet from what's been shown.

Seems like this new variation system will be a fucking nightmare to balance! Best of luck to NetherRealm. Hopefully they can pull it off.

It still bugs me that they mispronounce "rai", but what can you do.

Also, I wish the female character designs had as much attention paid to them as the male ones in this series. They always look way better to me. Guaranteed none will look as cool as this Kotal Kahn guy.

Really interested in the variation system. If it's done well then it should make for some great tournament play. Being able to tweak a character style between offense, space control, and mobility/zoning between matches could alleviate bad matchups and cause some fun counter pick options during sets.

...if they are balanced and varied enough that is. Love the concept, but I need to see more of what other characters variants allow for.
