sitting here in my boxers and air jordans, ready for some sweet video game action.

also, @defordj fucking totally!

Posted by Vasper_Knight

Yes at least Patrick is doing stupid stuff like this, very entertaining. Thanks PK

I remember renting this game as a kid and not hating it.

Posted by Boosh

I loved this game as a kid. I wasn't a Michael Jordan fan and I kind of remember the controls being pretty junky, but there was something about it.

Posted by Matt_F606

So someone designed a SNES plat-former and then some guy in a suit said we have to attach Michael Jordan to our next game for it to make any money!

Edited by Box3ru13

Loved this game as a kid, I remember my brother and I renting this as kids and playing through till completion. Once we transcribed the password wrong after beating about 1/3 of the game and had to start all over.

Good times. Up there with Cool Spot as one of those games that shouldn't be good but are.

I don't know what Patrick was talking about, this game looks amazing, I would have been blown away as a kid!

Glad Patrick is getting back to the point of this site, which was ostensibly to be a compendium of all video games, not just new ones.

Seems like the prevailing mood lately has been "Well, there's nothing coming out this week, so we won't have much content..."

Oh man the comments on this video on YouTube. Oh man. Never before has so much impotent rage been directed at a white dude with an afro.

JORDAN HAD A VIDEO GAME?!?! Why had I never heard of it before?

Enough with the "Look at me, I'm from Chicago!" already. Sheesh. We know. We get it.

wow, for some reason this sounds like a megadrive game. Nice to see some new encyclopedia entries though.

Posted by AV_Gamer

Haven't played this game, but I remember it getting positive reviews from video game magazines back in the day. And from what I see, it looks like a decent platformer, especially when compared to most celebrity based video games.

Posted by Draxyle

Five seconds into gameplay, "This.. isn't a basketball game?".

Posted by naeblis213

Does anyone know which game Patrick is talking about where Scottie Pippen bounces the ball off the opponent's leg?

I love people threatening to unsub, like Giant Bomb gives a crap about youtube subscribers.

The Taste of Chicago just started, so there'll be some chaos in the Windy City on Lake Shore Drive next week.

Also, first Independence Day and now this? At least Patrick's sticking to some memorable shitty games!

patricks beard still really uneven :P

Edited by Mento

Whoo! Chaos in the Windy City. Reading the FAQ to this game just makes me embarrassed for way younger me, who didn't seem to know what any of the power-ups or bosses were called. So much for research, champ.

But yeah, this is actually better than it looks. Lots of exploration, hidden stuff, backtracking, a power-up system that wasn't broken, a little bit of non-linearity (in that Mega Man sense of choosing a route through a lot of compulsory levels) and all those really goofy enemies that would find a second life in Shut Up & Jam Gaiden. Reminded me a bit of Pugsley's Scavenger Hunt, which was also brutally tough. Could've been a lot worse. Could've been Shaq Fu.

Really hard to tell what Patrick doesn't like about this game. It looks fine and he's not actually saying what the problem is, just talking about the Bulls and saying the game isn't good. Is it the controls? What's wrong? This doesn't feel like what an Encyclopedia Bombastica video should be.

Posted by Mr_Skeleton

A semi related question, what was that song from the baseball game from Patrick's arcade machine?

That's crazy. You gotta do Shut up and Jam! before you do Gaiden. Also Ninja Gaiden for the NES.

The game is absurd (in a good way) and seems to have some platforming issues but the concept is pretty interesting and I like all the backtracking and 'secret' stuff there seems to be. I remember playing this as a kid (not well enough to remember any detail on it) and glad to see it immortalized on the site now.

Posted by MormonWarrior

Oh yeah, and I'm from Utah and I was a big Jazz fan at that same time. Seeing the Jazz barely lose to the Bulls in '98 was so frustrating...Karl Malone, John Stockton, Jeff Hornacek...those were the days.

And I don't even like watching sports. The whole cultural thing really was a big deal. Also I was like ten at the time so...yeah.

Edited by Sil3n7

I grew up in Plainfield Il. Watched Jordan play as Patrick did. Love Space Jam.

I can really identify with Patrick.

Be like Mike!

This game actually seems kind of awesome. Hilarious how Wheaties and eyeball monsters can be in the same sentence and actually can mean something: "Oh you mean Chaos in the Windy City."

Posted by happymeowmeow

Never actually saw the game that Barkley Gaiden got all those sprites from, neat.

Posted by OurSin_360

Do jordan vs bird, greatest sports game of all time!

I thought the Encyclopedia was about dropping the knowledge on good old games. I don't even know anymore.

I'm pretty sure the original expressed intent was to "quicklook every game in the Giant Bomb database", a.k.a, PROJECT QUICKLOOK EVERYTHING. But, sure, Jeff's Bombastica's have gone a bit deeper into the history of the games and platforms they were on. I do think Patrick did a decent job of contextualizing the game in the time period it was released, but I wouldn't have been opposed to a bit more information about the actual game too.

IS IT THE SHOES?

Why is everyone bitching? This is a fun piece of content. Keep going Patrick, I look forward to these features!

Chaos Dunk!

This is the video game movie I want to see.

Posted by BaconGames

Didn't know this existed and for a Michael Jordan platformer, this is way better than it has any right being.

Posted by Godzilla_Sushi

Okay Michael, so we have some lines for your new video game. Just go ahead and speak into the mic.

"Timeout"

Good Michael, lets do that again.

"Timeout"

Perfect, go to the second page and we'll be finished!

"Timeout"

Great job Michael. We'll mail your accountant the check.
