I couldn't shake my head in more shame and disgust. You guys got wrecked by the blue guys only to do the same exact thing. Over thinking in the wrong places and no thinking at all in all places.

hahaha...I wonder what "fights all Mag but water" could mean..... jesus..

edit:..wow..they really never figured out blue for water or red for fire?....wow....

I think they've almost catched up to where I got stuck when playing CT many years ago. Unless I misremember something there was some boss battle in an elevator coming up that beat me time after time.

Edited by Gregomasta

@onan: Jeff and vinny know how to win at games, they would figure this out. Still loving this E.R. no mattah what, but fuck you ryan and patrick for playing so bad! :)

Posted by Gregomasta

Don't worry guys, I sent them messages.

It's almost like watching a cute-retarded child.

@Sticky_Pennies: If you're really afraid of/upset by other people's opinions on the internet you could try not scrolling down and reading them?

@mithical: I don't believe anyone is confused about what Patrick and Ryan assumed to be true. They're just flabbergasted that they assumed those things, given the information presented to them.

@Spatulalad: I agree with you most of the time - we don't come to this site for mastery of videogames, we come for personalities and opinions. However, for some, this ER is a little bit beyond the pale. I don't expect perfect play, and I don't really expect them to find any secrets, or play more than the minimal amount required for completion.

But c'mon: you have got to admit that it's a little bit frustrating to watch people who make their living playing videogames miss a text prompt that appears maybe 6-8 times in the episode, and subsequently die a bunch. A lot of people watching this stuff want the jobs these guys have desperately, or have played CT a million times, or are simply super-serious about RPGs. But I don't think they're hating on the ER for these reasons: I think they're upset because they want Patrick and Ryan to succeed! And so do I - I find it a little frustrating to watch, a lot less fun than the previous ERs, because they just can't seem to figure it out. But I love Giant Bomb, and I love ER, so of course I don't want to stop watching. It's a conundrum.

Here's to the next episode being more successful.

Edited by TobiasParker

Guys who are complaining about the complaints. We aren't mad because they are playing terribad, we are getting angry because they are making obvious and stupid mistakes with equipment, items, techs, and attacks. Watching Vinnie screw up a fuse because he hit square or whatever too fast is funny, watching these guys not use items that would make battles simple or somehow not realize that (after literally decades of game experience) that "absorb fire" means you fucking absorb it and "cut fire" means reduce damage is simply infuriating.

Also, I am not someone who wants this game played efficiently or perfectly, I have never played it myself(I was an Earthbound fan), nor have I ever played a Persona game and definitely haven't played deadly premonition. Yet, this is the first ER that I actually am not excited about continuing, I am going to watch it but I fear that many people won't because quite simply it feels like watching someone play a game who not only has never played this game but has never played a game at all.

This isn't harsh or insulting criticism but merely pointing out that for people who don't get off on schadenfreude this stopped being fun a couple of episodes ago. The fact that people legitimately think that they are intentionally playing poorly should be a signal. I say this not out of malice but at the desire to see more Endurance Runs done in the future and to help GB put out quality entertainment at low low prices.

Edit: And Vinnie using the capsule machine on day 3 or whatnot was hilarious.

Bonus points for using a comeback from the era this game was made.

Presumably you've seen 27 episodes of SNES gameplay so far and you've read 8 pages-worth of comments about hour 13 of this coverage to have even found my comment. Don't act like you're not "serously" paying attention too.

I just realized the double meaning of the episode tag-line. It was a warning!

I totally missed that double meaning.

As for today's episode I think I've reached a place where I'm glad if they at least make some progress. Instead of getting upset at the two wipes I actually laughed. It was pretty funny that they didn't learn their lesson.

Posted by Brackynews

Yep. This is the very first dungeon that encourages single target magic attacks, once they start mixing Scouter types, with extra "kill the mage first" for good measure. I like rolling C-M-L because Antipode 2 is pretty good for some of the enemies.

Unless I'm misremembering, at least the Blue Scouters adapt based on whether you have Marle/Frog. Somehow I don't see them swapping Bobo for Bucca in any situation.

Posted by CaptainInvictus

It was cute and hilarious the first time they wiped due to not reading, but then it just got dumb the second time. I have to wonder if the screen they're using cuts off the top section so they don't even see the bar telling them exactly what to do.

Edited by JokerSmilez

Game tells them explicitly which magic to use 11 separate times.

Each time, both Ryan and Patrick just don't bother to read words that come up on the screen and make the same mistake again and again.

And instead of learning that maybe they're not using the right magic, they just decide they shouldn't use magic at all.

How is it that I was better at this game when I was 12 then they are now?

Patrick: "Ok Ryan, I know we joke about not reading things, but we really need to start reading things."

Yes, Patrick. You really do.

How could anyone rage at this? This is quality fucking entertainment.

Ryan, what does the Scouter say about his power level?

Posted by vaportra1l

These rage tears are delicious.

Posted by Draxyle

I'm really glad they barely lost any time from those deaths or it would have been extremely tragic. This is definitely one of the tougher stretches of the game; best they screw up now so they don't screw up later on.

Still, hilarious episode. I know I've gotten myself killed on those things a bunch when I was younger.

Edited by beatnik11

I think I am almost convinced by the guy who believes Ryan and Patrick are trolling all of us. For this entire ER we have watched them bumble about abandoning any of the most basic ideas of how to play a jRPG of this time actively not reading and ignoring blatant messages. This episode has by far been the worst, they are getting completely owned by basic monsters all because they refuse to read the text that flashes on the screen telling them explicitly what to do. This has nothing to do with being a "master" or "expert" gamer, its just basic fucking reading comprehension and paying attention for more than 2 seconds. This game is easy if you just pay attention, it was easy back when it came out, hell 8 year olds have beaten this game and I honestly have a hard time believing that these people who have grown up all their lives and is now their profession to play games can not grasp what an 8 year old can. These are people who have played and enjoyed games like Skyrim which involves a ton of reading and Dark Souls which is one of the most challenging games the modern era has produced. I just have to refuse to believe that they are seriously this inept at playing such an easy game, they have to be trolling all of us

Edited by samcwic

I'm willing to believe that the in-game messages aren't always appearing on their screen. It's the only explanation that makes sense. But one major fault they have is their apparent unwillingness to experiment with different characters. They need to learn to match the team to the challenge.

Posted by Kingfalcon

Boy oh boy, this one was a doozy. If I revered this game half as much as some of you do, I would definitely be agitated, but as is, this is just quality entertainment to me.

The funniest part of this ER is reading all the ragers comments about shitting their panties.

To your first point, Skyrim is pretty easy compared to a lot of older RPGS. From what I've seen you cant make the 'if they weren't paying attention' point for Dark Souls, because that game purposefully obscures things from the player.

To the second paragraph....do you even REMEMBER the P4:ER? The comments were a LOT worse than this. Just dont read them, thats what i do.

Except Vinny and Jeff were playing Persona 4 just fine, people were just bitching that they weren't doing things required fusing charts and things like that. The Persona 4 ER was completely representative of any normal gamer's first playthrough of the game, this one however, is not. They are making mistakes that anyone with basic reading comprehension skills can avoid. They are being completely oblivious to the story and just about all the text on screen, and it really makes this tough to watch. I hated all the comments on the P4 ER because they were playing the game just fine and you could tell they were genuinely enjoying the story and characters. This ER consists of two guys with no interest in the game playing it because it is their job, and they are clearly not putting in the effort play well and make interesting episodes. Every complaint about this ER is warranted.

If you hate watching it so much, why are you watching it? Honestly, I want to know. I dont watch terrible movies because they are terrible. If this is so bad, why are you watching it, then arguing about how bad it is?

So the more I watch/listen to GiantBomb content, the more it becomes clear that Jeff and Vinny are the only truly intelligent guys among the "regulars". The other guys have their specific areas of knowledge, but as evidenced by this ER (and previous episodes), they are exceptionally slow on the uptake of new things and have terrible information retention. That's not to say they're dumb, rather decidedly average; whereas I get the impression that Jeff and Vinny have good memories and are quick learners. It comes across no only in ERs but in podcasts and quick looks as well.

I never said I hate watching it, I have watched and enjoyed pretty much every video on Giant Bomb. It's by far the best video game website on the internet, and my first stop every day when I turn on my computer. With that said, I had high hopes for this ER, Chrono Trigger being one of my favorite games ever, and I am a little disappointed it doesn't live up to past Endurance Runs. Just because I am voicing some concerns doesn't mean I hate it. It is possible to criticize something you like.

That's fair enough. I guess I don't get why people are still going on about it 27 episodes in. Ryan and Patrick have been largely in-attentive from the beginning, which I happen to find hilarious, but it seems a lot of people are getting themselves all hot and bothered every episode while continuing to watch. I liked the first season of Heroes, but hated the second, so I stopped watching it. I guess I thought everyone would be that way, but this is the internet so who knows what the hell people are thinking.

I understand the entertainment value of watching someone bumble through a game and whatnot, but these guys are pushing it.

It's one thing to wipe because there some weird tactic of magic combo that you have to use to break the enemy attack pattern, but when simple "don't use magic on this guy" tactics trip you up...

Well goddamn.

I'm not expecting an expert speed run, but I would appreciate a little 4th grade brain work at times.I'm still enjoying it though. I never played CT so I guess I have to live vicariously through you two idiots.lol.

There is a huge difference between how Jeff/Vinny interacted with the stories of Persona and Deadly Premonition and how Ryan/Patrick are interacting with this game. I'm still enjoying the videos, but I'm watching them in the background while I do other things instead of focusing on every moment like I did with the other ERs.

Dude, it's because of Chrono Trigger, not Ryan and Patrick. I'm sure it's a great game, but it's too serious for an Endurance Run. Persona 4 has a good sense of humor, Deadly Premonition is weird as shit, but Chrono Trigger is just boring. I'm sure it's a great game, but not in this context. That's the problem that people need to get. It's not Ryan and Patrick. It's Chrono Trigger. They should've picked Earthbound. Pretty similar in a lot of ways to Chrono Trigger, but it's funny and weird.

But seriously, people need to calm down and stop blaming Ryan and Patrick.
