EVE Online Continues to Fascinate Me

Eve is good

This game is a serious information overload. Tried it once when it was free and had no compulsion to keep going.

I always feel like I should be playing this game...

EvE is so weird. Corporate espionage is an interesting aspect tho.

I long ago stopped being impressed by the cinematic trailers for Eve Online. The reality is often much more monotonous and depressing. Your tiny player is so insignificant you could play for years and never make a difference to anything.

Old vid, but still good. Play Eve on a daily basis, and been enjoying it for 3 years.

I just can't get passed the font in the game... SO widescreen unfriendly

I gave EVE online two hours of my life. At which point I backed away with beads of sweat dripping down my forehead and a steely look of righteous determination in my eyes, I shouted: "You. Will. Never. Take. Me!" 
And turned my back on it, scared that it could suck me in and never let me go.

That's no moon...

It's funny when the developer takes their game so seriously. It becomes scary when the players start doing it too. 
 
It's also funny that this is exactly (or close to) what happened a year or so ago.

FYI, this is more or less exactly what happened a few months ago. A guy spent upwards of 3 years working and plotting against one corp.

This is one of those mmo's that i don't think i would ever play but i'm so glad it exists i love reading about the craziness that happens in that game even if it isn't really my thing.

I recently just picked up the game again, and almost instantly remembered why I though it was so amazing years ago. There's just so much going on.

I played this for awhile a couple years ago. There's a ton to like and a ton of depth, if you think WoW feels like a Job after awhile you wouldn't believe EVE. 

 They should had added that it would take you two years and more interviews then when your  trying to bed the local kkk leaders virgin daughter oh and by the way you're also black. Eve online =  paranoia  = stay the fuck away.
 
Good game though.

Yeah, I love hearing about eve. I just can't get into it. At all. And really, the only good stories are these - horrible, epic, multi-year griefing. So amazing that it happens at all.
 
HOWEVER! If they ever roll out Dust 514, OR the "walking in stations" expansion, where you actually have a real avatar on real space stations, then I'm going to be hooked. Man.
 
I just don't know how many years it'll be before that happens. Hopefully they don't make GT5 look good...

SHIT YEA SON! I absolutely LOVE this goddamn gem of a game.

Gamesradar got a bracelet from EVE Online's developers that says "HARDEN THE FUCK UP". Clearly... they're weird over there.

Started accounts a couple of times and never stuck with it. Spent most of my time logging on to set up a new skill to train then logging off to play something else.
 
Certainly is interesting to read about it though. I expect I'd be more interested in playing if I didn't feel like I was left years behind whenever I thought about logging in.

Loved Eve while I played it. 
Had to stop due to the amount time I spent on it.

This is one of few MMO's that I guess justifies having a subscription fee - this is truly one massive multiplayer universe.

I still hesitate about starting playing it though, I don't particularly like subscription based games - but since I bought into Star Trek Online, which is most certainly inferior to Eve Online in every possible way, I suppose I have no valid reasons to stay away from EVE anymore.

I'll still wait for the next Steam sale though, but I should have taken the opportunity when they had it on sale for 8 euros or something like that earlier this year.

I spent a few months playing EVE but didnt get into a good corp so there seemed like nothing to do. The game still made an impact though, flying from system to system with the ambient space music is quite mesmerizing. also...Go Gallente!

You don't play EVE Online, it plays you.

For anyone interested in this game, just understand that the gameplay is not the allure here, even though like most games, it is composed mostly of its gameplay.  Boring gameplay, boring game.  End of game battles are where all the fun is at, but you have to be a masochist to make it there.

I've played a bit solo, don't have the time really for corp events and it's the most relaxing game I've ever played.  The music and atmosphere and just chilling in space shooting killing monsters, getting loot, equipping new shit, getting a new ship, trading, even mining.

You know what bugs me? They added all these fake animations onto the menus to make them look cooler, when they could've just put the animations into the game and actually made them cooler.

The update to the pilot portraits, enemy ai etc, are coming with the expansion "incursion" to be released this month. The "incarna" or "walking in stations" expansions is set to be released summer of 2011. So you won't have to wait much longer. "

As soon as I realized where this video was going, I had the goofiest grin on my face. This game is so cool.

I really love that a game like EVE exists, even though I don't find myself with time to play it (I blame StarCraft, it owns me and has for years). It's great that things like this can and do happen in EVE, and that it's completely allowed. I'd like to start playing it more heavily someday, and I swear I'm going to find the time to eventually, but until then I'm just going to enjoy reading all the crazy  news about it, like another poster said.

Really wanna try it out but it scares me a bit

This trailer finally convinced me to try EVE. I've just signed myself up for the free trial and am downloading the client as I type this.

Looks interesting, too bad I'm not into MMO's/second jobs that don't pay.

I played the trial about a year or two ago it is a really complicated game I like how they show your clone insurance thing that you have to buy so you dont lose o much progress. Ultimately though I just did a couple of quest and just start traveling with the auto pilot to the most remote places. I think I got to a place where there was like a rainbow nebula( I think it was called EVE something)and I found a lot of items drop in space to mark the farthest someone has gone. I even found a memorial to someones dog in space in this area. 

You would have to be seriously butthurt to destroy an entire alliance for losing one frigate. XD

I generally hate when people scream "ENDURANCE RUN!", but in all honesty some episodic feature on EVE Online would be magical.

This trailer is so damn cool, just like the other EVE Online trailers.

EVE definitely always seems awesome when I hear about it but quite honestly it is waaaaaaaaaaay too involved for me.
