Exactly my thoughts. This game looks pretty cool but I just can't get too excited cause that was exactly what I thought about Far Cry 2 and I really hated Far Cry 2 when it came out. Still, I'm so ready for a colorful shooter, I'm so sick of brown.....

I am very excited about this. I was one of the few who actually really liked Far Cry 2, despite all its flaws and this looks like that, but with everything that was wrong fixed and a lot more.

I was not planning on getting this game but being able to punch a shark just sold me.

Although I would have preferred baby seal punching to shark punching, this game is looking good.

I haven't seen anything of this game since that first trailer, and I'm pleasantly surprised by how nicely it's shaping up. I'm excited!

I will declare FarCry 3 the best game of all time if there's any way you're able to bonk the shark's and tiger's heads together coconut-style.

I think they've released about 20 hours of preview video material for FC3 at this point. I was sold after the first "survival guide" trailer.

Terrible unboxing guys, you were all over the show, think Ryan's the best host for these sort of things. He was trying to reign it in but the just wasn't happening. A for effort though! lol

Ok, point 1: Did they change the main dude's voice? Not that what appears in promo vids is what it has to be, but still.

Point 2: Those pull quotes are... kind of terrible. Two of them just say 'yo it's like this other game', and one of those calls it an 'echo' of another game. Which is actually an insult. Calling something an echo is usually meant to imply it has similarities but none of the substance. Maybe they meant to say 'has echoes of', but even then, that's not exactly back-of-the-box material.

Yes, exactly, Far Cry 3 is a working title. There was a Vault underneath this island, and the people in it turned crazy. Everything is on fire because all the guns are laser guns. Vaaj is actually a Super Mutant.

Tag line: "It's the Far Cry 3 of Fallout games."

So let me get this straight, you are a teen who falls out of the sky and takes out several islands full of pirates, slave traders and all round scum? The premise behind this game is fucking dumb. Compare this to fc2 where you are a mercenary in a small African nation embroiled in a civil war, just trying to make a buck. Nothing revolutionary but it least it made sense and had a somewhat mature premise. Christ, the dialog in this will probably be filled with internet memes and references.

I haven't played/seen/know anything about Far Cry 1 or 2, and I've seen virtually nothing of this game. But after watching this trailer, I very much want to play it. Gonna have to do some digging around before early December.

I think the concept of "teens going partying and then running into trouble" is the oldest story crutch in the book of story crutches. Yet.... The story seems strong (for a game). Why is this?

It's not always about the story beats. The atmosphere in these trailers has a little bit of artistic value to it. And in the gaming world that atmospheric/drug trip vibe goes a long way of making that generic setup seem a lot more tantalising. As for "skyrim with guns". Yes. The game seems to possess the ingredients to pull off a B- version of skyrim.

Farcry 2 was plain. Let's get that out of the way first and foremost. It has some interesting late game story stuff, however the actual core exploration and gameplay was terrible. Mostly because of the world construction. You did not walk out into an area and go "I want to go there!!!". You looked out, and saw a bunch of brown trees and a pond with a dirt road. The map was huge, yet it had so little variety and personality. Skyrim - say what you want about it's bugs on the console versions - had an interesting world. Everything felt like something you wanted to investigate, every rock, every house, every shrine. Felt like it belonged in this world. People often underestimate how important this is. Bethesda did not.

Back to farcry 3, I saw a long demonstration of the goals of the development team in the last game developers conference, and that's actually where I was convinced that this game has enough enticing elements of skyrim to make exploration something a lot less mundane. They seem to have understood what makes an area interesting, instead of miles of copy/pasted African trees and ponds - it is -seemingly- a compilation of interesting a varied locals.

Time will tell, however there is a chance this game will be extremely fun to explore and interact with, and a smaller chance that the story will be any good. Either way, it's a lot more interesting than farcry 2 and farcry 1.

That's kind of what I loved about FC2.

We're so used to such over-the-top, grand stories that the thought of making an entire game about searching for a single man in a relatively mundane environment sounds almost ridiculous. Most games would handle this sort of thing in a side-quest before you blasted off in a rocket ship to save the universe.

I found it super engaging to be given such a simple task and dropped into an environment that wasn't the typical patchwork of set pieces. I got a real sense of reality when I dug into the game and realized that, just like in real life, a simple task like "find this guy" can turn out to be much more complex than it sounds.

For me Far Cry 2's plain-ness made it feel more like a real place, and though I wouldn't say I prefer it to the fantastic-ness of most video game worlds, I certainly found it interesting and refreshing.

I really like what I am seeing but I'm not sure if I will preorder. Gonna wait for the reviews and if it is good I will buy this to play on the holiday break since I'll be BlackOps'd out by that point.

Seriously, who the hell chose those quotes? Bizarre.

I really want this game to live up the everything it's blasting us with. Thing is it's a big title from big developers and publishers. It's not some Indie title, it has lots of money behind it, and it HAS to be sold to us, which is what they're doing. Oftentimes games like these are oversold, and when you finally are holding the game in your hands, it turns out to not be anywhere near as good as what you thought it would be.

I really don't want this game to be another one of those. I'm going to have to hold off on buying it release day, no matter how promising it looks. This is besides the fact that I already have about a million games that are still unfinished, including Far Cry 2, Crysis, Crysis Warhead, and Crysis 2, and those are just kinda similar games. Shoot I never beat Far Cry 1, although at this date that'll probably never happen.

This is besides the fact I got games like Fallout 3, New Vegas, and Skyrim to still finish, along with a newer purchase, Dark Souls.

@das9000: Pretty sure the main dude has military training at the very least. It was heavily hinted at in one of the other trailers that he is ex military. A trope as old as time.

The three things that could keep me from never touching this game: The absolutely abysmal marketing on Ubisoft's part (dubstep trailers, showing a single part of the game 9/10 times, letting shit slide such as the above quote), the woefully bad looking story, or sharks because fuck sharks.

The whole Skyrim with guns thing keeps getting blasted at gamestops and it pisses me off. I'm pretty sure that Fallout holds that title.

@Tennmuerti: No, his brother is the one with military trailer. Naturally he dies after the tutorial. He's the classic "guy with the necessary skills and competence to solve this mess who dies to make everyone else feel totally screwed".

This game has had so many trailers I feel like I've already played it.

This trailer should just be 3 minutes of shark punching.
