Wow, this had better come to the US.

Fatal Frame accounted for some of the biggest scares I've ever had. If this is even decent and available over here, I'm getting the Wii U. It's like the system is built for this game.

Oh god fuck this game so bad.

I have this weird phobia over most imagery in mainstream Japanese horror so these games are so not my thing.

At the same time though that's exactly what they are.

Nintendo should at the very least do a digital release for NA.

I really hope this comes out, how the Fatal frame games play would actually go perfect with the gamepad.

If the gameplay is dependent on the gamepad, i foresee Nintendo making bank on repairing them.

Fatal Frame with the Gamepad as your viewfinder for the Camera Obscura is the best idea I've heard in a long time.

This game really needs to be localized.

"The last few"? You mean "the last one"? As far as I know there were four previous games and I played three of them in English. The second one twice, even, on the PS2 and Wii.

And if I remember correctly, there actually is a fan translation of the fourth game that you can play on a modded Wii. I never did that because even though I do have a chip in my Wii I'm not that interested in this series.

@paulunga: The Wii version of the second one wasn't brought over to the US. It was only localized for Europe and Australia.

Man, I hope this game is good, it looks good. And also not overly dependent on using the gamepad as some camera gimmick, that would get boring after 45 minutes.

I only played the first two Fatal Frames but I loved those, this looks pretty good so here's hoping it comes over.

2014 NoA is probably more willing to localize this than preceding years of Nintendo, but still.. plenty reason to be worried they wouldn't.

We've not seen many earnest attempts at horror in the semi-big budget space, so I hope this turns out okay.

@paulunga: The fan translation for FF4 could actually be played without modding the Wii. It actually boots from an SD card.

This better come west. I was lucky to have a friend studying in Japan when 4 came out and got it that way. This would be a very good incentive for me to pick up a Wii U.

I never finished Crimson Butterfly, but if they bring it over with a good localization, I'd pick up a discounted Wii U for this.

All three of the originals are on PSN and are still worth playing if you missed them.

FF3 would be a good choice to Patrick to play thru from start to finish, assuming he can stream from a PS3.

I finished Fatal Frame 2 recently. I feel like it was way better than the first game (especially story wise, I was palming my face after the end of the first Fatal Frame). I've got Fatal Frame 3 lined up to go so this news is awesome.

Now I just need a Wii U!

I have stopped worrying since both the Japanese and (obviously) the Hollywood movie are international releases, plus they're 2 out of 3 in Europe when it comes to localization and Fatal Frame 4 only didn't come because Koei Tecmo/Grasshopper didn't want to fix the bugs. Localization for Europe was supposedly already underway at one point.

I'm confident this will come, just probably not this year :)

That's no longer true since the last Wii firmware update doesn't support that method anymore. Installing the Homebrew Channel is now the only way unless there's an undocumented workaround.

Hahaha, that's like the best justification for my purchase of a Wii U, Patrick's predictions were right! They need to get the English port ASAP, can't wait.

Edit: Actually all it needs is menus and subtitles, I'd rather play it in Japanese.

@def: oh really? I didn't know that. It's been a while since I played through it (or used my Wii). That's a shame, I would love to run through FF4 again without having to do any modding. Hopefully my Wii never updated.

Well, whatever the case, the softmodding is fairly easy and can be done in a few minutes and opens you up to playing imports from anywhere. Gonna install the fan translation now as I finally bought a copy of Zero 4 last month in anticipation of Zero 5's reveal! woo! :D

When you're having to support a system on your own, you don't pass up one of the few pieces of series development you have on said system.

I'm not sure what 9 year old hardware you're talking about. And they haven't passed up anything. The fact that it hasn't been announced yet means, frankly, absolutely nothing. Don't be so hyperbolic.

The reason they didn't bring over the fourth game was that it was buggy and Tecmo wanted more money to fix it. Let's hope that won't happen again.
