Final Fantasy VII Is Coming (Back) to the PC

There you go, there's your re-release, now shut the fuck up for the next 15 years pleaaaase!

This is pretty much a necessary thing considering the original version has never been remotely compatable with modern operating systems. If they ported other final fantasy games to PC I would surely buy them. It seems like 1-6 should be easy enough to port over if they wanted to, but the polygonal newer final fantasies would be much more difficult to port.

@Slaegar: That's a FMV cutscene. The Silly Shaped Characters(TM) will still be in it. I have the original PC release. It's identical. You can mod it so they use the combat models for regular play, but it doesn't match up right anyway.

I take it they are not releasing this on Steam?

I would honestly prefer a re-package of this game with all the side-story stuff with FFVII on it (even if some of it is of questionable quality): Dirge of Cerberus, Advent Children, Crisis Core, and that Japanese mobile game where you played as a recruit for the Turks.

I too had the Eidos published PC version back in the day.
It constantly crashed on the cut-scenes.
 
Also, emulation is awesome.

This is from the website they have up. It looks like its just the old PC version. Still an improvement over the silly shaped characters from the old playstation game. I don't think I'll be buying final fantasy 7 again though, unless its pretty cheap.

I played the PC version on CD when it came out, and it did have a slightly better translation. They still had that "Attack while its tail is up" thing, but they fixed the more blatant errors like "This guy are sick" and the

confusion. The music was terrible though. Like it sounded really tinny and less like actual instruments than the PSX version. Hopefully they fixed that. And maybe the higher system requirements means the load times will be faster and the backgrounds will look less pixelated.

I like FF7. I think it's pretty cool. Cool enough to have it on my PC.

All the media for this re-release makes it feel really lazy. Like Square-Enix just paid some dude $50 to make it work on Windows 7.

I had the PC version of FFVIII back in the day. It was garbage on wheels.

Never got the mass appeal to this game, I think ti's far overrated. FF6 had way better character development.

And I can't help but laugh at it all being CG bits either. I really hope this was intentionally paying homage to the original advertising.

Sooo they've stated that there will be achievements, have they clarified as to whether or not its GFWL achievements or Steam achievements or is Square going to seriously imagineer up some stupid achievement system for their website that works with one game?

I don't know what's more insane: the fact that they show no gameplay after 15 years still...

...or the fact that you need a 2GHz processor or higher with 1GB of RAM and a DX9 or higher card to play it on your fucking computer!!!

It wouldn't take that much alteration to the original polygons for them to release this as Lego Final Fantasy VII.

How about releasing IX for PC since VII and VIII already exist?

Having blocks for hands is still going to make 75% of this game look like hot fucking garbage.

Didn't really like it when I played it way back and I don't think time made it any better.

I had to throw out my copy of FFVII for the PC so I'd stop trying to install it on machines that would not agree to play it. So I would actually buy this.

Sweet. I get to experience the most dreadfully elongated battle sequences ever in HD, now.

If they did this for all the FF games missing on the PC for some reason or another that's fine, if it's just for one title then I really can't get interested too much.

All over this. Doesn't need any changes or any bullshit, you don't fuck with the classics, you just don't. Been keen to replay this for years but haven't been willing to play my PS1 copy since it's PAL (and thus just a little bit too fast, read up on the 4% PAL speed-up.)

The only thing I'd like them to add is a free lossless download of the soundtrack. Otherwise, I hope it remains as untouched as possible.

There's something odd about this. Not the idea of releasing an FF7 remake, but just the way this whole thing looks. I don't even know how to put it or what to point to, but something definitely felt off. I'd say that it's the HD parts seeping through, that doesn't feel right, either, given that it pretty much looks the same.

Article also links to a fan-mod for PC that probably looks just as good as this re-release. I exclusively played the PC version when it came out, it ran great.

I'd rather play 8 or 9.

This trailer really confuses me. It's very 90's and it seems like they are trying to pretend it didn't already come out on the pc in 1998. Almost feels like they just put out the same trailer from 14 years ago.

I still have the original PC version hiding somewhere in my closet. but guess i'll buy this again if it's like $10 - $15.
